Audio Production Faculty
The concentration in Audio Production is a logical pairing with the Jazz Studies degree, given the broad scope of knowledge and skill involved in audio production in the twenty-first century. In a March 2009 interview for Recording Magazine, Lorenz Rychner asks Fantasy Studios director Jeffrey Wood to comment on the breadth of expertise that is now required of that of a “producer.” To paraphrase, Wood explains that this can include serving as engineer, musical director, musician, writer, arranger, mixer, manager, licensor, shopper, business consultant and/or chief financial officer of the project.

The integration of a concentration in Audio Production into the Jazz Studies program provides students with the breadth of knowledge and skills addressing the panoply of areas Woods cites below.
• Music Production

Audio Production Courses include: • Digital Audio Workstation • Audio Technology • Critical Listening • Survey of Music Production • Mix • Studio Recording • Introduction to Mixing • Senior Project • Studio Electronics • Post Production
Today, more than ever, technology enables musicians to self-produce their own work or the work of clients. The concentration in Audio Production also gives students the tools they need to best convey their own or their clients’ artisanship at the highest level. A high quality recording is important in and of itself; but in the professional world, it can also make the difference between success and failure. The concentration in Audio Production adds knowledge and skills relevant to today’s professional musician.
“Even with more experienced bands you will find that they rely on people for help with writing, arranging, as well as the technical aspects of engineering and mixing.” — Jeffrey Wood
