Furniture is Miniature Architecture
While living in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg, Brooklyn area, I began experimenting with building furniture. Although having had spent time drawing furniture schemes at architecure offices, this experience proved to be meaningful in understanding how parts go together physically. Having an architecture background also proved to be beneficial in understanding simple structural techniques. The most common technique used in most of these peices was ‘sistering’ which is bolting the furniture against the studs of the walls thereby making the peice float against the wall.
