ABOUT ME My name is Shihui Yang. I was born in 1990 in Jiaozuo, which is a small city in China. My hobby is dancing, drawing and photography. My grandfather was good at traditional Chinese painting, which is color ink on rice paper. I liked watching him paint landscapes with birds, trees and mountains. He didn’t talk too much about painting, but I learned a lot by watching. I gradually fell in love with Chinese painting, so my grandfather became my first art teacher in my life. When I was in middle school, there was a TV show called “Exchange Spaces.” The program is primarily concerned with two different families decorating each other’s house within 48 hours. Through this TV show, I became to know interior design, and I found it so interesting to create a space however I want, and make it exciting and fun for other people. For this reason, I decided to learn interior design and was admitted to Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in Dalian. I learned a lot about graphic design and display design. To further my education, I decided to study abroad in the Academy of Art University. Through three years of study, I have learned a lot in hand drawing, computer skills, ideas, and so on. As for my future career goals, I really want to be a professional designer and open an interior design studio in China. I just want use what I have learned to create more comfortable and sustainable spaces for people to enjoy.

Introduction of Design Milk Design Milk is an Online design magazine dedicated to what’s innovative, fresh, and new in the world of design. From art to architecture to style and technology. Design Milk places value on making sure that everyone can work the way he or she wants to in order to accomplish tasks. Most of our team works independently, since we’re all over the country. However, assuming we would have a physical office space in the future, we would most certainly need to accommodate any of our freelancers who would come and work from the space.
Design Milk’s mission is to bring forth great design to everyone.
<< < SHIHUI YANG << < <<<
Therefore, if someone needs quiet, then there should be a place for that. We need a space that is flexible, and accommodates all kinds of work styles, with open space and private areas. Schedules are also flexible, so it’s important for us to accommodate down time and other activities in the space without interfering with the work.

Concept Philosophy <Contrast>
The verb contrast means to show a difference, like photos t hat reveal how much weight someone lost by contrasting t he “before” and “after” shots. In this project, according to the requirements of the client, I want to design a space which gives people a feeling of innovation. Combing with the concept “Contrast,” the space will use some contrasting colors and shapes to draw customers’ attention.
<< < SHIHUI YANG << < <<<
The Path to Showroom Success Step 1: Have a purpose in mind.
Step 2: Plan your showroom around that purpose. Depending on your objective and starting point, for planning out your showroom may take as little as a few months or as long as several years. Even as you plan short-term improvements, keep an eye on opportunities for future expansions and changes to your showroom. As Scott Sommers of Hartville Hardware put it, “ A showroom is never finished.”
Step 3: Develop a process to keep your showroom up-to-date, relevant and competitive. Building or expanding your showroom is just beginning. Several of featured dealers commented on how they work continuously to update their showrooms’ selection of products. Another dealer goes through an annual three-month process to decide which products to add or remove from their showroom.
15 Retail Design
When planning the next steps for your showroom, ask yourself: “What is the purpose of our showroom?” and “What are we trying to accomplish?” Do you want to differentiate yourself and display the newest products available? Sell more high-end and high-margin products? Whatever the objective may be, make sure that you define it early in order to stay focused on reaching a successful result.

Storefront Storefronts should be distinctive from the floors above and allow easy transition from one retailer to another without major structural changes. For this storefront, I have two different options. The first one I followed is the cut shape and yellow color to make it feel consistent from the interior space. The second option is to use the wood material and combine it with the zebra pattern to create a nature feeling.

Project Information (Site Analysis)
SoMa is the cultural nexus of San Francisco, containing its major museum district, several art galleries, and an eclectic mix of international restaurants, hotels, and theaters. In addition, with its lofts, South Beach high-rise residences, and rundown houses at the neighborhood’s margins, SoMa offers a wide range of options for residents. The creative mix of young people and its proximity to the financial district have also made SoMa an irresistible temptation for tech firms and many mainstream retailers. SoMa is thus a vital, constantly improving neighborhood.
( ( ( SHIHUI YANG ( ( ( ( ( (
Neighborhood SoMa has always experienced transition hand in hand with its diversity. Not only have the demographics of SoMa shifted over time, but whole neighborhoods have sprouted in places formerly devoid of residents.
Weather SoMa’s climate is characteristic of the cool summer Mediterranean climate of California’s coast, with moist mild winters and dry summers. Being the surrounded by water moderates temperature swings and produces a remarkably mild year-round climate with little seasonal temperature variation.
Land Uses The neighborhood of SoMa district is a patchwork of art spaces, loft apartments, residential hotels, swanky nightspots, warehouses, shopping malls, furniture showrooms, and the tenacious Internet companies that survived the tech market collapse. Although a lot of building has gone in recent years, it is still not densely developed.

Top three critical factors for a successful office design solution
Commercial Design
47
1. Work-Life Balance
2. Strong Team Spirit
3. Transparent & Open Communication
There has to be some sort of balance between work and personal life. In general, having that sense of balance will improve job satisfaction among employees because they will feel that they’re not overlooking the other areas of their lives that are, if not more, important to them than work.
As social beings, we naturally seek support from our peers and seek to belong to a group. Come tough times, the team should come together to deal with whatever problems are out there. This is where a sense of unity is evoked in the team and employees will no longer just feel that they’re working for themselves. They are now working towards something bigger than themselves, and as a team.
In essence, a transparent and open form of communication addresses the employee’s need to feel that what they have to say has value. It is what makes employees feel that they belong in the organization. Work then will become meaningful because the employees know that what they contribute affects organization that they are affiliated with.

Before beginning the office design, I thought about the types of tasks employees perform in the space. A good office design is not only in functional, but also provides comfortable work areas for staff. The offices need to have some open spaces for people to share with each other ideas, as well as they need to have some private space for conversation.

Levi’s is the best known jeans name on the planet. The business was founded by the Strauss family in 1875 and produced jeans for miners out of tent fabric and canvas. It then went on to make jeans from denim which is a coarse, heavy twill fabric. The jeans became popular with miners during the California gold rush and were famous for the twin rivets on the pockets. The business went from strength to strength to become one of the twentieth century’s best known global brands.

Concept Philosophy [Dare to Mix] School is a big collective space, which blend of many national students and multiracial culture. In this project, I prefer to build the whole space with different colors, multiple materials and various kinds of furnitures. According to my mood board, I mainly use yellow, green and orange colors to build a functional space basing on the harmony principle. For materials, I will choose some new sustainable materials into my design, which are benefit for healthy.

Top three critical factors for a successful school design solution
1. Think Sustainability
2. Provide Flexibility
3. Encourage Collaboration
• The careful selection of furnishings and interior materials can contribute to improved indoor air quality. • Designing around daylight leads to improved morale and reduced absenteeism. • Re-using and recycling is an educational lesson within itself, one of which the current generation of students is well aware.
Today, however, the furniture needs to respond to the teaching styles of each professor with the ability to reconfigure quietly and with minimal distraction. School design must also acknowledge the rapid pace of change and create environments that are both flexible and adaptable for the future.
The school mostly uses glass walls and glass doors encourage interaction space between students and faculty by inviting people to stroll in. Lounge areas outside offer a place to hang out, talk and share ideas. Wireless access, plenty of power outlets, white boards, small group tables and stackable chairs turn any space into a comfortable, collaborative space.

Building Transformation 115 Commercial Design
The flat normal building only can get sun light from the top, but the center of the building can not be light up. For this reason, I opened the ceiling in the middle area, so that the surrounding area can get also be light up and save the energy.

Reception 125 Commercial Design
The first impression of school is the reception area. If this area is professionally designed, it will be functional, professional and stylish. So I mainly focus on various design elements such as color, material and layout, which make a statement about the value o f next university. Ensure that this important front public area sends right message by using design element.

Classroom The idea for classrooms that are flexible and mobile. Mobility is one of the crucial features for furnitures in a collaborative learning classroom, so I choose the flexible desks and tables to easy combine together. However active learning is surely not only talk about movement, it is also require the classroom to make use of analog and digital visual presentation technology.
