Technologies BASS Reading through this catalog, you may notice a few terms repeated in reference to our graphite materials and performance ratings: Modulus: The rating used to describe the stiffness-to-weight ratio of a fiber. Higher modulus materials are inherently lighter and provide improved sensitivity. Tensile Strength: The maximum load that can be applied before the fibers fail. The higher the tensile strength of the fiber the stronger it is. Resin: Viscous material that infiltrates gaps in the laminate and encapsulates each fiber. Essentially, it’s the glue that bonds the blank together. The more advanced the resin system, the lighter and stronger the rod becomes. Following, you’ll find descriptions of our proprietary technologies and corresponding performance benefits.

Spiral X

Shimano’s proprietary Spiral X technology utilizes triple layer construction consisting of an oblique fiber core layer, a longitudinal middle layer, and a reverse-oblique fiber outer layer. MUSCLE CARBON

INFINITY TAPE

A high modulus sheet of vertical fibers that provides strength and lifting power.

A seamless roll of pre-impregnated graphite tape rolled diagonally onto the mandrel. When overlapped with an additional layer at an opposing angle, the X orientation of fibers eliminates ovalization and twist, considered the main catalyst for rod breakage.

CONSTRUCTION Spiral X construction consists of three layers: an inner and outer layer of seamless Infinity Tape tightly wound diagonally in opposite directions, and a layer of vertical fibers called Muscle Carbon in between. Utilizing Infinity Tape in place of a traditional sheet of horizontal fibers reduces overall weight and creates actions with superior torsional rigidity and hoop strength.

G. Loomis Rod ACTION Since 1982, we’ve pushed the boundaries of manufacturing technology, materials innovation, and product design. That’s why G. While there are countless examples of this philosophy in action, one technology in particular encapsulates our drive to build the most advanced rods in the world: Multi-Taper Design.

Extra-Fast Action

Multi-Taper Design is best described as a series of “micro-tapers” within the overall taper of the rod. This unique, proprietary process allows us to use more material on potential break points and less material everywhere else. To accomplish this, we manufactured a custom rolling table...and it’s the only one in existence today. The result is a catalog of precisely defined actions that strike a perfect balance between durability and performance.

Fast Action

UNDERSTANDING ROD ACTIONS Simply put, action can be described as How and Where a blank bends when casting or fighting a fish. An action is the product of many factors. Taper design, materials, and manufacturing process all combine to achieve the right “feel” and power levels for a particular application. For example, a dropshot bass rod must have a lightweight, fine diameter tip to create ultimate sensitivity when dropping your bait to a fish in 40 feet of water. Additionally, you need backbone (power) to penetrate your hook into the fish’s mouth and start your battle. This profile maintains a slim diameter throughout the blank for faster action, increasing enjoyment when fighting fish and absorbing shock to protect your fine diameter leaders.

A very light and sensitive tip facilitates an effective transfer of energy resulting in effortless pinpoint casts, near or far. This action will make any angler a more effective caster in short to medium range fishing applications while giving the angler more immediate power for the hook-set and the ensuing fight This action is the most universal of actions offered by G. Loomis. Fast action rods have a light tip that transfers into the power quickly for positive hook sets and effortless repetitive casting. Moderate-Fast

The deeper flex associated with this action allows the angler to control the energy of the fish with enough backbone to penetrate on the hookset. This action offers an unsurpassable ability land the majority of fish hooked on even the lightest finesse presentation utilizing small hooks. Since the rod flexes reactively to maintain constant tension at all times, it facilities a direct connection to the fish.

Moderate

Whenever an angler needs the perfect action to absorb the surging power of a fish delivering aggressive headshakes or quick runs, a moderate action rod neutralizes their power. Anytime an angler needs a fish to take your offering without feeling any resistance from the rod until the hookset.

Reading through this catalog, you may notice a few terms repeated in reference to our graphite materials and performance ratings: Modulus: The rating used to describe the stiffness-to-weight ratio of a fiber. Higher modulus materials are inherently lighter and provide improved sensitivity. Tensile Strength: The maximum load that can be applied before the fibers fail. The higher the tensile strength of the fiber the stronger it is. Resin: Viscous material that infiltrates gaps in the laminate and encapsulates each fiber. Essentially, it’s the glue that bonds the blank together. The more advanced the resin system, the lighter and stronger the rod becomes. Below, you’ll find descriptions of our proprietary technologies and corresponding performance benefits. DYNAMIC RECOVERY TECHNOLOGY

Dynamic Recovery Technology is a blended system of several elements. Our all-new Mega Modulus+ graphite matrix and GL8 resin system, combined with the industry’s most advanced compound taper construction process, creates crisp actions with smooth, rapid recovery. The key to achieving these performance characteristics is a reimaging of our proprietary Multi-Taper Design technology. Traditionally used to enhance durability and swing weight, the G. CONDUIT CORE®

Traditionally, as the blank diameter increases, so does the total amount of material used. This was the only way of ensuring strength/durability in the bottom half of the rod. Fly Rod Actions UNDERSTANDING ROD ACTIONS Simply put, action can be described as How and Where a blank bends when casting or fighting a fish. An action is the product of many factors. Taper design, materials, and manufacturing process all combine to achieve the right “feel” and power levels for a particular application. For example, a presentation trout rod must have a lightweight, fine diameter tip to create smooth and effortless loops that aid in accurately presenting the fly. Additionally, you need firmness (power) in the blank for longer casts, mending control, hook-sets, and line speed for stable loops in windy conditions. This profile maintains a slim diameter throughout the blank for deeper flex pattern, increasing enjoyment when fighting fish and absorbing shock to protect fine diameter tippets. Conversely, actions designed for saltwater environments have softer tips, combined with increased blank diameter and wall thickness through the bottom three sections of the rod. These actions resists flex under load, creating a powerful backbone capable of lifting and turning large saltwater game species and makes it easier to deliver large flies in windy conditions.
