What is a Raider?

or Starbucks? You don’t have to choose. We have both.

A raider ship is a fast and lightly-armed privateer commissioned by governments to serve as a raider against enemies. The Shippensburg Raider ship slices through the water, sails billowing with the power of the wind, always moving onward.

Big Red | Big Red is a red-tailed hawk (no, they’re not a parrot), and captain of our Raider Ship. Catch them around campus in their tri-corn hat, Raider gear, and iconic light-up shoes.

Shippo the Hippo | Big Red’s first mate and the university’s secondary mascot. Shippo was the runner up during the 2005 mascot madness competition and rumor has it he actually won! After an April Fool’s joke in 2023, and a lot of positive feedback, Shippo was named first mate! Get to know Big Red and Shippo
