Great Ocean Drive

Cruise around this 40 kilometre loop and take in a coastal environment that features stunning beaches, rocky headlands, bays, steep cliffs and hidden ocean pools. Touring the Great Ocean Drive is the best way to find a spot to snorkel, surf, swim or to look for whales (seasonal).

Salmon Beach Windfarm

Discover the site of Australia’s first commercial wind farm (now decommissioned) on this short heritage walk trail. Where six turbines once stood, one remains at site 1. Further along at site 2 a lookout tower provides elevated views of the Esperance coastline.

Esperance Jetty & Headland Playground

The final piece of the beautiful Esperance Waterfront! The Esperance Jetty is perfect for a friendly fish, to launch off for an ocean dive or to stroll and learn the magnificent history of the Jetty with a coffee or juice. The view from the end is truly stunning.

James St Beach Enclosure

The 300m enclosure offers a great alternative to the open ocean. Complementing the enclosure is a 5 lane lap pontoon, water slide and jumping jetty. Please note - no lifeguards are on duty at the enclosure.

Cape Le Grand National Park - 60km east

Feel Australia’s whitest sand squeak between your toes, enjoy coastal walk trails or marvel at the view from the summit of Frenchman Peak. Cape Le Grand National Park also features two campgrounds, so don’t limit yourself to just a day visit. If you’re lucky, you might come upon the local kangaroos sunbathing on the beach at Lucky Bay. Stokes National Park - 80 kms west

Encompasses Stokes Inlet and features long beaches and rocky headlands backed by sand dunes and low hills. The inlet and associated lakes support a variety of wildlife.

Peak Charles National Park - 174km north

Towering 500m above the surrounding plain, Peak Charles is a hikers dream. The park lies within the Great Western Woodlands, an internationally significant area of great biological richness.

Cape Arid National Park - 125km east

A large and exceptionally scenic park best known for its stunningly beautiful beaches, clear blue seas and rocky headlands.

Wharton Beach & Duke of Orleans Bay - 90km east

“The Duke” is nestled between Cape le Grand and Cape Arid National Parks and offers a variety

of sheltered bay and stunning coastal scenery. Perfect for a day trip or to stay for the week.

Lake Monjingup - 15km west

Lake Monjingup is a fantastic spot for bird watching, wildflower spotting or trail walking. It offers a brand new boardwalk trail, canoe and kayak trails, as well as picnic spots.

Helms Arboretum - 18km north

A botanical legacy sown in the ‘70s to determine what trees could grow in Esperance. The area features a mix of native and foreign species, creating a wildflower sanctuary.

Kepwari Trails - 7km north

Walk along the Kepwari Wetland trail and be exposed to pristine wetlands that provide an intimate experience with this critical and unique ecosystem.

Cruise the Recherche

Experience the real beauty of Esperance’s Recherche Archipelago. You can tour the coast from a new perspective or even visit Woody Island for a day (Esperance’s only island with facilities).

Explore by Air

Scenic flights are available to view Esperance from a different perspective, with various options of lengths and destinations. Covering the coastline, islands, pink and rainbow lakes, and even a pub crawl!

45 years’ experience being a professional artist, Bruce sketches inland towns and landscapes as well as the people that inhabit them - the stockmen, miners and other colourful characters.

HERITAGE & CULTURE

Esperance Museum & Skylab Memorial - James St

One of WA’s outstanding regional museums, it contains historical objects from the 1800’s, parts of the 1979 Skylab, and much more. The Skylab Memorial is located just outside.

Bijou Theatre - Dempster St

This ‘little gem’ opened in 1896 and has been used for dances, agricultural shows and a cinema. These days, the Bijou hosts community theatre performances by the Esperance Theatre Guild.

RSL Building & War Memorial - Dempster St

The RSL building (circa. 1896) was the first purpose built school in Esperance. Surrounded by 125 year old Norfolk Pines and the War Memorial, built in 1922 to remember our local lads who went to war.

Dempster Homestead - Dempster St

Built in 1867 by the first landholders in the Esperance region, the Dempster brothers. Dempster Homestead has been a number of different dwellings: a pastoral homestead, a hospital, miner’s accommodation and now a private residence. You can view this building from the road.

Historic Museum Village - Dempster St

A collection of small historical buildings which now house little shops (selling all types of local wares). The Museum Village is on the site of the town’s old railway marshalling yards, and the buildings have been relocated from various sites around Esperance.

Esperance Bird & Animal Park & Cafe - 15km north

A short drive from town, you’ll find a café to grab a bite to eat before you say hello to a variety of furry and feathery animals.

Esperance Stonehenge - Merivale Rd

Impressive monoliths form the only full scale replica of UK’s Stonehenge. Appreciate the atmosphere as you stroll among the 137 Stones of Esperance Pink Granite.

Lucky Bay Brewing - Bandy Creek Rd

Sample magnificent hand crafted, local beer at Esperance’s very own micro-brewery. Made from locally produced barley, settle in with a fresh brew, wood fired pizza or smoked goods.

Esperance Distillery Co. - Norseman Rd

Esperance Distillery Co. is a micro-scale distillery making gin from local botanicals. Check out esperancedistilleryco.com for tasting and cellar door opening times.

Aunty Joan’s Dolly Mix - Dempster St

Aunty Joan’s Dolly Mix is a not for profit doll museum and event space located at 104 Dempster Street (opposite the cinema).
