REFLECTION #15 November 24-28, 2014 The week before my last week at my practice center has now passed. There were only three days of class because its thanksgiving week. For this week I had planned to finish discussing character, setting and plot of the Story “The Little Red Hen”. For many reasons, I’ve had to move up a lot of my lesson plans, the main reason being days with no class. Either way, my students enjoyed this week a lot because I dressed up as a chef. It was very funny to see their reactions. They were surprised and excited and asking me what was I going to cook. I told them we were going to cook a story. I used Jailene’s fishing pond and brought a bowl. In the fishing pond there was the definition of plot, character and setting. There were also index cards with the answers to the story parts mentioned above. On Monday since I also gave those definitions plus the students used the fishing pond, we had to resume the activity the next day. We were able to finish on Tuesday and also complete a worksheet. I was impressed that all the students finished and all of them worked, even the students who usually do not do work in class. On Wednesday not a lot of students came because of thanksgiving break. I changed my initial lesson plan of rhyme, and I handed out a thankful turkey activity. I divided the students into two groups and they all had to mention one reason of why they are thankful. They were very excited to participate and very happy to give their turkeys as a homework to someone they love. I’m enjoying to the max the time I have left. My third graders have been very though to handle but I’m glad I’ve had them because making it this far helps me to demonstrate tio myself that I have what it takes.
