Dedicated to my three heartbeats... Sashna,Pavki and Kaveer

Once, there were three children who met every summer and thought about everything in the world.

In the night, when the lights went out, they would get under their blanket, laugh, and share secrets in the dark.

Sashu was the

biggest Pavku was the

boldest

and little Kavzu the s m a l l e s t

They called themselves

and together they were quite a team!

One day, Sashu who was the biggest and the wisest said,

“there are a lot of problems in the world... when we become big we will have to make it a better place. So, they put on their thinking caps and went inside the tent, which was their meeting place. No grown ups were allowed to enter this very special tent.

Sashu came out first, stood on her chair, and announced—

“I will be Queen of the World. I will be in charge of everyone’s happiness. Pavku will be my Minister for Kindness. Kavzu will be my Minister for Goodness.”

“Then, team SPK, we can make the whole world full of kind, caring and good people because...

how can anyone be happy when others are sad!!

Pavku was getting very impatient—

“I think all children in this world should learn to dance, sing, play and jump before we learn to study.”

Little Kavzu was looking out of the window and dreaming.

kavzu,

what are you

.

u k ” av ? P g nd thinkin a u h s a yelled S

, “oh? ” whispered Kavzu

d “ I want to grow up an be the sun.”

The other two burst out laughing. “ the SUN??” “ Why Kavzu, how can you be the sun, silly?”

“because, because”, Kavzu said, “When I wake up I can give light, I can give heat, so everyone can stay warm. When I shine there will be colourful flowers and trees. And when it rains, I can make beautiful rainbows.”

“Yes, I want to be the sun.”

They reached out and held each other’s hands and shouted the team motto

‘we can-we will!’

Together, team SPK had planned their ideal world. There would be kind and good people, happy, healthy children and a beautiful environment full of colours and plants.

“Okay, okay, that’s done!” shouted Pavku. “Next”, asked Kavzu, “should we solve a problem called Coronaviroo os...”

“YES!!” said Sashu, “... as the grown ups just CAN’T!!”

It was the lockdown period of Covid 19 and I had just finished writing the story. I started reading it, over video calls, to a group of children between the ages of 4 to 11 years to get their inputs on images for the book. My niece, Puja Mohan, helped me with ideas and concepts (a big Thankyou!). The result was the beautiful and colourful drawings by the young artists......

Advika Mohan (10 years)

Sashna Kanoria (4 years)

Sharanya Barwale (7 years)

Aadya Sheth (11 years)

Aaryahi Kanoria (6 years)

Erasmo De Souza (10 years)
