VV Mineral India's Ilmenite And Sillimanite Offer Best Utility Ilmenite is a mineral found only in some parts of the world. Its scarcity is a key reason for its popularity and high value. Over 96% of the world wide use of Ilmenite is in titanium dioxide TiO2 form that has a wide range of strategic applications.
Ilmenite is the most important ore of titanium from the commercial perspective. Most Ilmenite is mined for titanium dioxide production. 47% of the titanium dioxide produced worldwide is based on this material. Ilmenite is ultimately converted into pigment grade titanium dioxide via either the sulfate process or the chloride process. Ilmenite ore is used as a flux by steelmakers to line blast furnace hearth refractory. Ilmenite sand is also used as a sandblasting agent in the cleaning of die-casting dies.
Ilmenite is a lightweight and sturdy metal used in several spheres like the aerospace, shipping and paint industries and is also used in making artificial joints for
humans. India has 360 million tonnes of Ilmenite reserves.
Sillimanite is an alumino-silicate mineral with the chemical formula Al2SiO5. Sillimanite is named after the American chemist Benjamin Silliman (1779–1864). It was first described in 1824 for an occurrence in Chester, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USA. A variety of sillimanite is called "fibrolite". It is a common fibrous massive form.
Sillimanite is one of three alumino-silicate polymorphs. A common variety of sillimanite is known as fibrolite, so named because the mineral appears like a bunch of fibers twisted together when viewed in thin section or even by the naked eye. Both the fibrous and traditional forms of sillimanite are common in metamorphosed sedimentary rocks. It is an index mineral indicating high temperature but variable pressure. Sillimanite has been found in Brandywine Springs, New Castle County, Delaware, USA. It was named as the state mineral of Delaware by the State Legislature in 1977.
Natural sillimanite rocks cut into the required shape and size are used mainly in glass industries. Sillimanite is the best raw material for the manufacture of high alumina refractories or 55-60% alumina bricks. The rare transparent Sillimanite crystals from Burma, Sri Lanka, and India are valued as important rare collector stones, and are occasionally cut into exquisite gemstones for collectors. Compact masses of Sillimanite were once used by Native Americans of the American Southwest to fashion tools. It is used in the manufacture of spark plugs etc, rarely as a gemstone and as mineral specimens.
The demand for Ilmenite in India and China is growing rapidly and may eventually surpass Western consumption. One company that manufacturers and exports Ilmenite and Sillimanite is VV Mineral. They are the first private Ilmenite Exporter in India. V.V. Mineral (VVM) is India's largest Manufacturer and Exporter of Ilmenite and Sillimanite. V.V. Mineral is proud to have been certified with ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 by TUV. V.V. Minerals India is the first company holding granted license for Mining and Exporting of Ilmenite from the Government.
V.V. Mineral started production of Ilmenite in early 2000 in anticipation of the granting of the export license and their first Ilmenite was delivered in October 2000. The production capacity now stands at 500000 metric tonnes per year and is expected to rise steadily as market conditions allow.
V.V. Minerals currently produces several grades of high quality sulphate grade Ilmenite which are becoming increasingly sought after due to their ideal characteristics of good digestibility combined with low contained Fe203,U, Th, Cr2O3 etc.
Currently, VV Mineral India has eight processing plants in operation (as of 2013) and have proposed to set up two more plants, which allows us to provide a greater degree of product flexibility than the one generally available from traditional heavy mineral processing operations.
VVM Sillimanite is an outstanding product. The advantages of buying sillimanite from VV Mineral are manifold. High quality which includes its high alumina content, low impurities, high melting point, even sizing
and uniform packing are some of the advantages of using VVM India's heavy minerals.
