Brigadier Steve Ismail (Retd.) DEAN OF STUDENTS
Dear Students
I am pleased to present to you the first edition of a monthly newsletter from the Dean of Students Office. My compliments to our OCJs for the hard work they have put in to create and edit it for you all. As Dean of Students, I am responsible for your concerns and your life on campus. I take the responsibility seriously, and thank you all, students, for encouraging me with your positive energy and enthusiasm.
Many of you have left your home for the first time and are still coming to terms with all that comes with living on a residential campus.
While you are free from parental scrutiny and many limits you lived under so far, you are also free to evolve and free for new ideas and perspectives to influence you.
Before long, you will transition from being students to earning your own living, when you enter the world of service, enterprise or entrepreneurship. You will make this transition smoothly if you have used your time here to transform into resilient, resourceful, compassionate, and dependable versions of yourselves. This goes beyond academic learning that you acquire. It requires you to deliberately seek out opportunities to extend yourselves beyond what you are, towards what you can become. Every experience can teach you a lot. Whenever you are challenged, when you diss the food, or your faculty, or the way things appear not to be working for you, you can choose between endless complaining, or using the situation as an opportunity to develop your resilience, adaptability, strength of character and understanding of others. Do make use of the excellent sports facilities, and the activities you can join on campus. Enjoy every day and develop habits that will contribute to making you the person you would like to be.
Wish you all a very Happy Diwali !!

JALSA 23’ BREEZE x GRABBO
Team Breeze, in collaboration with our campus' very own "Grabbo," lit the library lawn with the first-ever traditional celebration of the semester, "Jalsa." It was a night filled with captivating music, nonstop dancing, circles of dandiya, and plates of the tastiest Chaat, all culminating in the most beautiful lanterns lighting up the sky.
The event featured the Shiv Nadar IoE community of students, faculty members, and guests gracing the library lawn in their best traditional attire sparking debates on whether their clothes or the celebratory decorations were more colorful. Debates aside, the decorations put up by the hard working members of Breeze and others transformed the lawn into a stage for celebration. With props to click photographs with and space to pull out stellar dance moves, the event attracted a huge number of participants As the sun set and the stars began to appear, the Garba music started up and the dancing began. The DJ played a mix of classic and modern Garba songs, and the drummers kept the beat going. With the dandiya sticks provided, people improvised the beats as they gathered around in circles and danced with sheer joy. The energy was very high, and kept recharging with the amazing Chaat that Grabbo prepared in the food stalls set up there. With a rich variety of the most favorite Chaats, the aroma of the food getting prepared added to the atmosphere present there. At last, it was time for the second highlight of the date Highlighting the skies with beautiful lanterns that were provided by the Team gave Jalsa the perfect ending note for the day. The spirit of Garba ran all night and ascended to the skies with brilliant colors.
SILENT DJ Cultural Committee
In a delightful continuation of the vibrant spirit of our Freshers' Week held in September, the Cultural Committee pulled off an extraordinary event on the evening of 21st October 2023 - the Silent DJ. The attendees, arriving in lively clusters of friends, created an ambience of unity and festivity. Laughter, dance, and conversations filled the air as students, spanning various years and backgrounds, came together to revel in the shared love for music and celebration. The unique concept of the Silent DJ amplified the experience. With everyone wearing wireless headphones, the venue became a spectacle of synchronized movements and shared musical experiences. The sight of students grooving to different tunes while seemingly in silence to an observer was a testament to the power of music to bring people together. Under the starlit sky, amidst the laughter and the beats, friendships were strengthened, and memories were etched. The event showcased the diversity of our campus, highlighting the beautiful tapestry of cultures, interests, and personalities that make our institution truly exceptional.

ACADEMIC CORNER
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MINOR
Understanding Minors at Shiv Nadar IoE: Your Path to Academic Enrichment
At Shiv Nadar IoE, every undergraduate student has the exciting opportunity to delve deeper into their academic passions by opting for a Minor subject. This additional area of specialization is available to all students, provided they meet the selection and credit requirements outlined by the offering department. By undertaking specific courses, students not only fulfill their University Wide Electives (UWE) requirement but also earn a valuable Minor to complement their degree.
Is Pursuing a Minor Mandatory?
The decision to pursue a Minor is entirely voluntary. While it is not mandatory to undertake a Minor, students must complete a minimum of 18 credits of UWE as part of their academic journey. To maximize the benefits of their education, it is strongly recommended that students align these credits with a Minor requirement. Doing so enhances the overall educational experience and provides a more comprehensive understanding of their chosen field.
Exploring
the Option of a Dual Minor
For students with a keen interest in multiple disciplines, the possibility of undertaking multiple Minors, often referred to as a dual Minor, is indeed feasible. There are no restrictions barring students from pursuing more than one Minor as long as they fulfill all the necessary requirements. However, it is important to exercise caution, considering the potential higher workloads associated with multiple Minors. Careful planning and alignment with one's academic schedule are crucial to managing these additional commitments effectively.
Application and Registration Process
While it is not always mandatory to officially register for a Minor, we highly recommend that students express their interest in pursuing a Minor to their respective Undergraduate (UG) Advisor. This proactive approach ensures that the necessary guidance and support are readily available. Most departments readily allow students to claim a Minor if they have met the specified requirements by their 8th semester.
Embracing a Minor at Shiv Nadar IoE is more than just an academic choice; it is an opportunity for students to broaden their horizons, delve into diverse subjects, and develop a well-rounded skill set. We encourage all students to consider this enriching option and to engage with their advisors to make informed decisions about their academic journey.
