As winter returns to campus, the mornings have turned dark and misty, and there is a chill in the air. Those of us out early, hear the calls of ducks and other migratory birds, announcing their arrival from colder lands. The days are shorter and the nights colder, and the hostel windows are alight into the wee hours, as you prepare for your end of semester exams, which are about to commence.
Campus life was vibrant and happening in November. The Cultural Committee put on an excellent semester end fest, “Dastaan” over three days, including one evening for the Freshers’ Night, which got washed out by heavy rain back in September. The last evening coincided with the rare and thrilling excitement of India playing Australia in the finals of the ICC World Cup, which we all enjoyed on large screens put up in the dining halls, C&D Atrium and other places. It was a long and memorable afternoon and evening, with popcorn, pizzas and hot and cold drinks provided. The Aussies played ‘spoilsport’ though, with extraordinary fielding that denied us the win we all so badly wanted. November saw many of us returning home, or welcoming parents and relatives, as we celebrated Diwali on and off campus. It is a time of renewal of hope and commitments and new beginnings, which I trust will see us all through this semester and beyond in good health and community. We were all deeply affected and saddened on 27 th November, by the death, from natural causes, of one of our brights students. Our hearts and prayers go out to the bereaved family and all her loved ones and friends, as they bear their grievous and tragic loss. I wish all students all the best for your exams and holidays. We will see you back on campus next semester.

INTO THE BIOVERSE Genesis-
The Life sciences Society
Around 4:00 PM, on a casual Thursday, about a dozen of Genesis members dressed in black and green buzzed about shifting tables in the corridor while classes took place. Two stalls were set up and a banner hung in the background inviting passers-by for an unforgettable experience.
With an aim to blur the feeble line between reality and animation, Genesis, the Life Sciences club, conducted ‘Into the Bioverse’ on the 16th of November 2023. Indulging the participants in the realm of virtual reality, they explored the deep blues, coursed through veins and toured the building blocks of life - the cell. All this while standing within the walls of D-Block! This virtual reality event received a great deal of attention and participation from those who sought to end their day with a little gush of adrenaline. Simple yet vital topics of Biology were made accessible and enjoyable for students of various educational backgrounds with the aid of colorful and visually pleasing animations.
While the VR stood focal, it was hard to ignore the stall on the side, with an interactive bio themed game.‘PEPTalk’ was a quirky and fun way to test your personality based on the nature of the peptide chain produced from your name. The more acidic the peptide, the more toxic you are. If your peptide turns out to be basic, well… The event ended with joyous laughs and participants took back adorable Science themed stickers. This fun and educational evening was a memorable experience for all.
PRIDE PARADE
November was painted rainbow on campus, with queer festivities adorning the campus’s event calendar. The SNIoE Queer Collective orchestrated two powerful annual flagship events, emanating solidarity and celebration within the institution. The first event, a symbolic Pride flag unfurling, unfolded on Saturday, November 25th, with a remarkable turnout. As the clock struck 11:30 AM, a multitude assembled at the D-Block first floor, manifesting unity and support. The vibrant flag ascended, painting the air with hues of inclusivity and acceptance, fostering a visible emblem of pride and belonging.
Continuing the momentum, the Queer Collective orchestrated a spirited Pride parade the following day, Sunday, November 26th. A gathering of numerous students and faculty members commenced their journey at 11:30 AM from the location of the Old Rainbow Tree near the ISC, embarking on a spirited march toward Central Vista to where the current Rainbow Tree resides. Amidst a palpable atmosphere of celebration, the parade reached its crescendo at the Central Vista, where a poignant act ensued—The Rainbow Tree was rethreaded. This symbolic gesture epitomized resilience and hope, underscoring the community's commitment to continual advocacy and support.
Both events reverberated with enthusiasm, amplifying the voice of the LGBTQ+ community, fostering solidarity, and marking indelible steps toward a more inclusive and accepting environment within the SNIoE community. The Pride Flag Unfurling and the Pride Parade, or annual flagship events, are deeply entwined with the goals and aspirations of the collective- to provide a strong sense of community and enrich the living experience of queer persons on campus. The only thing the collective does not welcome with open arms is hate and bigotry, barring which all are
