FROM THE DEAN OF STUDENTS

Dear Students,

Welcome back on campus for the Spring Semester The Campus is alive again with your energy and purpose

As all of you get back to your academic and other activities with resolve for 2024, remind yourselves that you are preparing for life beyond the University Going forward, you will need to take responsibility, initially for yourselves, then for the organisations and people you work with, your family, society, the country and even the world we all share and live in It is customary to wish ‘Happy New Year’, however, I wish you all a fulfilling 2024. We have been sold an idea that the purpose of life is to be ‘Happy’. Nobody quite knows what that means, because unless a person feels fulfilled, they seldom experience happiness for longer than the fleeting highs that come from acquiring things. Fulfilment comes from purpose, from knowing that effort you put in will make a positive difference in some way in days to come This is the time to seek a purpose for yourself and direct your energies and effort towards its fulfilment

When you face challenges and setbacks along the way, think of a bird Its wings allow it to stay aloft, come down gently when it must, and take off again when it needs to Gravity is always pulling it down! If the bird did not develop its wings, and use them well, it would crash to the ground Whenever you are in a situation that you feel is making big demands of your abilities, or stressing you out, think of it like “Gravity” , and imagine the efforts you make as the process that is shaping you into the person you are going to become The more challenges you face and go through, the more capable you will grow to face challenging situations and emerge stronger from them.

Imagine there is a “muscle”; that you need to be able to complete a task or spend that necessary time with the person you find difficult to work with. Think of this muscle growing stronger, with each “Rep”, each time you do what needs to be done Mark your “Presence” to yourself, each time you do the “Workout”, and watch magic happen! Grow the “Wings” you must develop to stay aloft in life, and land safely without crashing and hurting yourself

Stay active, have fun, and grow stronger in your faith, with better insight into different perspectives and the courage to believe in your growth

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Stay tuned for the next steps along this path

NEW POLICY ALERT!!

Of late, it has come to the administration's attention that cabs and autos are being misused to smuggle banned and prohibited substances onto campus. While recent detections have shed light on this concerning trend, it's likely some instances have gone undetected.

To address this serious issue and create a safer campus environment, the following revised guidelines are in effect:

1 Permitted Cab Access:

Accompanying parents/relatives or heavy luggage: Cabs transporting parents/relatives of students or those carrying heavy luggage will be allowed entry after mandatory security screening Any banned/prohibited substances found during screening will result in appropriate action, including disciplinary measures for the student(s)

Student pickup: Cabs booked to pick up students from campus will be allowed entry following security checks at the designated gate.

2. Continued Restriction:

Independent student use: Entry of cabs and autos hired by students returning to campus, other than the exceptions above remain prohibited until further notice.

3. Alternative Transportation Options:

Campus Shuttle: Operating every 15-20 minutes, the shuttle connects the outer gate to various campus locations Utilize this convenient and safe option

Walking: Walking remains a healthy and viable choice for many students

4 Understanding and Cooperation:

We appreciate the responsible use of hired transportation by many students and their cooperation in our efforts to make your campus a safer space for all

Further Updates

Regular updates regarding these restrictions and potential revisions will be communicated. We encourage you to continue providing feedback and suggestions through the Student Council or directly to the administration.
