STUDENT LENS

FROM THE DEAN OF STUDENTS

Dear Students

As we come to the end of March, summer has arrived on campus, bringing longer and sunnier days

The highlight of the month was Holi, celebrated in true SNU style on campus It was a joy to see you all enjoying yourselves with lots of colour, gushing water, and plenty of ‘Gujjia’ to eat In an age when we are often closed away in different virtual worlds, festivals give us an occasion to rediscover the joy of community. How one celebrates is a matter of personal choice. I see Holi an occasion for connection with community and rejuvenation. The colour, water, and mud plastered all over makes one quite unrecognizable, and lets free the inner child within. One should only be willing to ‘muck in’, and not take oneself too seriously

At a good Holi celebration, like we had on campus, everyone is laughing and smiling, singing, and dancing, washing away apprehensions and despondency in the company of friends In a sense, Holi celebrations leave one messed up on the outside but refreshed and rejuvenated from within! I compliment you all for your vibrant spirits and for ensuring that the celebrations were colourful, muddy, and messy, yet comfortable for one and all to participate in wholeheartedly

There is learning in this Our physiology and emotions are millions of years old, unaltered by any technological developments, but affected by modernity for sure Increasingly, many people feel isolated, even excluded, and this creates stress and anxiety and, together with other factors like poor diet and lack of sleep and exercise, can mess us up big time. Group activity or celebration can become a stressful experience when this happens. There is no right way to celebrate, but as long as it leaves everyone feeling included and safe, it has a positive effect on our mental health and reinforces our belief in ourselves and the goodness of the world.

After several rounds of student elections, we finally have a Student Council Heartiest congratulations to our new President, Aneesh Kandrakota, Vice President Pulle Sree Harsha, Cultural Secretary Devansh Asthana, Sports Secretary Karan Bellak Sudhakar and all the other elected representatives

As you take on your responsibilities, you will face many challenges, and as you negotiate them so will you evolve as individuals

Our heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Student Council, President Jagannath Varma Kalidindi, Vice President Dharaneeshwar Prakash, Cultural Secretary Harnam Chhabra, Sports Secretary Pranav Mallipudi and all the other members of the last Council for your efforts and contributions to student life on campus

From this edition, the Student Council will contribute a page to highlight their activities and issues of the month. Please engage with your representatives and empower them to take up your concerns.

SYAM GUGGILAPU'S "COTTON CANDY": A STUDENT FILMMAKER'S DREAM TAKES FLIGHT

SNU student Syam Guggilapu isn't afraid of a challenge In 2022, he started making short films, and this year, he's taken a huge leap by creating his first full-length feature, "Cotton Candy"

A comedic and satirical exploration of university life, the film follows Aadhi, a fourth-year student who loses his memory of his college years after an accident "Cotton Candy" explores the gap between Aadhi's pre-college expectations and the reality he faces, with a sharp wit that tackles modern lifestyles and parenting

Syam wore many hats for this ambitious project. He wrote, directed, storyboarded, and even took on the lead role! A talented crew of fellow SNU students supported him: Aaryan Das on editing, Vagdeep Varma on color grading, and Haradeep on cinematography, with additional help from Kushwanth, Praneeth, and Srivatsan

Shot entirely in Telugu, the film will be released with English subtitles, making it accessible to a wider audience The cast includes SNU students alongside Mr Ashwin Ramanathan, a professor from the Communication department

The sound design is courtesy of Uday Appala, a student at the prestigious Annapurna Film School in Hyderabad, who's already working on major feature films like "Kalki 2898 AD "

The buzz is strong! "Cotton Candy's" recently released trailer garnered rave reviews, and with post-production nearing completion, the film is set to premiere in the second week of April To bring it to the SNU community, Syam has partnered with Cineyou, the university's film society

CAMPUS THROUGH STUDENT LENS

The heart and soul of a college campus are its students. After immersing themselves in campus life for a while, here's what some students have to say about their experiences

PARUL AGGARWAL SIMRAN BATRA

SOCIOLOGY’25

Theres always a sense of peace and quiet when I look at campus as a physical space But most of the students would agree that campus is not just a physical space we occupy, it’s a feeling There’s a feeling of belonging, comfort, and security, the feeling one gets at home Campus has become my safe space, which carries insurmountable happiness, memories and love Campus is more than the heat and the never ending walks, it’s chai at Cnd, cold coffee from Nescafé, the dogs with never ending desires for belly rubs, the ever so occupied benches and sitting in canopies in windy weather which brings the campus alive and makes it a place where everyone wants to be.

KOCHAR MBA’24

As an MBA student at SNU, the campus represents more than physical structures; it's a hub of growth, collaboration, and inspiration In my two-year journey, involvement in college activities enriched my growth, nurtured by SNU's supportive environment It's a protective bubble fostering networking and shaping me into a confident leader for tomorrow

GUNEET

BMS’24

SNU is a whirlwind – placements, fests, and endless cups of chai from Naveen Bhaiya fuel our days! The adrenaline rush of event planning mixes with the late-night study sessions (both in-person and virtual!), forging friendships that grow stronger every day As we prepare to leave, we pack a suitcase full of memories – the laughter, the tears, the unwavering support. The bonds we built at SNU will transcend time and distance, a true testament to the SKS spirit. Cheers to us, the unstoppable!
