After a long summer break, the campus is again alive and vibrant Welcome back, all students, and a special welcome to undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA and PhD students who have joined us this year. I am sure you are getting used to your new surroundings and making new friends as you embark on this next phase of life
The undergraduate Batch of 2028 is an especially large one, numbering over 1120 at last count. While it is heartening to see more bright students joining, it has posed challenges to the hostels team, who have worked round the clock to absorb larger numbers. Some senior students have not been allotted the hostels they would have liked to be in We have had to put some seniors and juniors in the Towers, which are farther from the Dining Halls, and there are visibly more cycles on campus!
The orientation of Freshers was done very deliberately this year, with a full day of sporting activity as well as dedicated time for orientation by the University leadership, each school, the Student Council, and all the clubs and societies. This allowed the students joining us, and their parents, to get a clear understanding of life on campus, with all the opportunities on offer for participation and personal growth
Just a few days before we celebrated Independence Day, the nation was shocked by a brutal attack on a young medical student in Kolkata. Students took the initiative to organise a candlelight vigil on campus, to reflect on the wanton cruelty and violence visited on an innocent life that was lost. Let us all pledge to stand for each other’s safety and wellbeing. Ours is an inclusive and safe campus and community, but we must remain alert and aware of potential dangers and support each other not only physically, but emotionally and morally, through the weight of our collective conscience. With the Club Fair happening at the end of the month, alongside Freshers’ Week and Night, the campus is abuzz with anticipation and excitement for an exciting term ahead. Make the most of each day, manage your time well, and have fun – safely!

HOSTELUPDATES
Freshers on the Rise!
This year's surge in freshers, from 900 to 1200 students, called for a significant expansion of our housing facilities. We grew from two hostels to five to comfortably accommodate everyone. Air conditioning was also upgraded to meet the increased demand.
Summer Spruce-Up
Over the summer, the existing hostels underwent extensive renovations. This included everything from washrooms to individual rooms, ensuring a fresh and comfortable living space for our students.
Timely Breakfast in Towers
To accommodate the larger student body, some freshers were placed in the towers, which is far from DH. We addressed this by transforming common rooms into temporary DHs specifically for breakfast service, ensuring students could grab a quick bite and get to their classes on time.
Room Selection & Residency
Students were offered the opportunity to choose roommates again. While there might have been a shortage of twin rooms for boys and single rooms for girls, we were able to accommodate everyone in the best possible way. However, room selection was contingent upon clearing all outstanding dues and submitting the anti-ragging affidavit.
Room Swapping
Due to the room shortage, room swapping was also permitted, with specific conditions and criteria to ensure a smooth process.
