Though not here yet, the winter is round the corner, putting a chill in the air at night, and our gardeners are busy preparing beds for the winter flowers.
October kept many of you busy with your mid semester exams, yet the campus remained lively with club activities, late evening sports and vibrant fests and events organised by the students
Prominent was the three day fest ‘Afsana’, which was as well conducted as it was received by the vibrant campus community. Compliments to Devansh and the Cultural Committee, who left no stone unturned and no door un-knocked, to make the event a grand success
Sporting activity saw the initial matches of the SNUSL play out, whenever they could be organised. There was a proposal to start an interyear sports tournament, to replace the interhostel format, but we have not agreed to this Sports, at the amateur and collegiate level, is actually more about generating energy and emotions that empower participants and spectators alike to take ‘ownership’ of their teams and identify with them. People thrive when they can build a sense of community and belonging that overlaps with their daily lived experience, and this is the spirit behind having an inter-hostel format. If that spirit has yet to build, it only means that we have got to try harder and keep at it, since it is a work in progress.
A lot of students went home for Diwali and would have returned to campus with renewed vigour and energy to make the most of the few weeks left of this Autumn Semester, before the end semester exams. It is good to see that clubs have been more active this semester than in the past year, with numerous events and pre-event events enlivening campus life for us all As we go to print, the University sports teams are gearing up and practicing for ‘Surge 24’, which will see them vying for top honours against external participants, right here on campus. I appeal to all students, faculty and staff to swell the crowd at our matches and cheer our athletes to give their best
Let’s consider making November a month when we all invest in our wellbeing by taking up any sport or physical activity for just half an hour each day. Elevating your heart rate and getting sunlight in your eyes and on your skin for just thirty minutes a day, can shrink your troubles, transform your day and win you new friends. Someone wise once said, “If you cannot find time for exercise, you will soon find time for illness.”
Keep active, keep well and give yourself the gift of a happier day!
