02 INTERRUPTED SPACES
Warhol in New York // 81 Essex Street Seward Park Urban Renewal Area [SPURA] An extension of the Andy Warhol Museum of Pittsburgh in New York’s Lower East Side
9
To critique museum design through the attitude of Andy Warhol, a new system of organization is actually a system of opportunities. The juxtaposition of chronology and context being removed when they are so fundamental to our understanding of artistic evolution results in the displacement of these found objects, completely decontextualized and embodying a sense of placelessness.

I began to understand the natural gestures of the landscape and the site. My approach towards the design was to salvage these natural lines by constructing intersecting planes contacting the ground plane.

04 MODASA LAYERS
Educational + Cultural Center // Modasa, India
25
Located outside a rural village in Modasa, India, this proposal seeks to promote a multi-use, communal space programming as classroom space during school hours and communal residence/conference space during nights and weekends. This transitional experience through layers of occupancy focuses to gain self awareness as well as developing interrelationships within a community.
27
A layer of six individual classrooms with changes of exterior spaces align in a street-like pattern relating to the village typology. An appropriate site strategy along with innovative materials and craft systems are used based on a sustainable response to the harsh local climate, cultural and architectural traditions of space making in India.
