Henry ShoGun's Facinating Rhythm
2/23/2001 - 3/1/2012 1
Our condolences to Paula Chmura, who graciously took Henry and his buddy, Wilson, into her home taking care of their every need for the last 2 years.. We hope Paula and Wilson will be a comfort to each other for quite a while longer. Our thoughts also go out to Debbie Ward who loved and nurtured Henry and Wilson, for 8 years and to Marsha Biscar, her husband, Hamid, and , of course, Mish, who tended to them For several months until we could arrange for a flight to Wisconsin.

Trotter’s first major It happened at the Central Indiana Kennel Club show, Indianapolis, IN on February 11th. With this 3 point major Trotter, ShoGun's Too Hot to Trot, now has 10 points. Here’s hoping Trotter finishes in the near future.
Emmie has a new home You knew her as Remy, ShoGun's Sure Shot, but she has found a new home and a new name. Ron and Joanne Turk lost their 14 year old ESS, Ellie, early in February. It was obvious to Ron that Joanne missed her very much so he started looking for another. Since Joanne had previously showed interest in Clumber Spaniels, Ron checked the Internet and found our website and saw we had Emmie available. We made arrangements for them to visit but Ron wanted to keep the visit a secret so he told Joanne he had to visit us as part of his job. She would come along for the ride. When they arrived, a few of the dogs were running in the back and came running over to the fence to greet Joanne while Ron came to the front door. Joanne soon followed Ron with tears in her eyes. She came into the foyer and we let Emmie into the room. Joanne dropped to the floor and welcomed Emmie into her arms, her long black coat soon covered in white hair.

It seemed like a good match so we agreed that Ron and Joanne could take Emmie home for a week to determine wether she would fit in, so to speak. While the first few days were not without trials and tribulations, Emmie settled in and has now become a tried and true member of the Turk family. May they live happily together for many years.

This is One Lump You Can't Ignore Story at-a-glance Mast cells are found in tissues throughout the body, but they are especially prevalent in the skin, respiratory and GI tract. They play a role in allergic responses, non-allergic skin disease, wound healing and tissue remodeling. They also increase stomach acid production. When mast cells replicate in higher than normal numbers, mast cell tumors can develop. These tumors can occur in both dogs and cats, and while some are benign, most are malignant. Dogs usually develop a single tumor; cats tend to develop multiple tumors. In cats, mast cell tumors of the skin are usually curable with surgery. Internal tumors carry a much poorer prognosis. In dogs, prognosis for recovery depends on where the tumor is located, its grade, and the treatment given. http://tinyurl.com/76ekmgd Is Laser Therapy Right for Your Dog? http://tinyurl.com/76ehyon If Your Dog is a Large or Giant Breed, Stay Alert for These Symptoms http://tinyurl.com/WobblerSyndrone Socialize Your Puppy - Our Checklist Will Help http://tinyurl.com/6ok3w8l 10
Speaking of Hypoallergenic Dogs http://tinyurl.com/3tmw8ah Interesting study. "Notice Me!"- What Your Dog Says Without Speaking http://tinyurl.com/7zbmblo If Your Pet is Overweight, Please Stay Away from These "Fixes" Story at-a-glance: Pet food manufacturers continue to try convince consumers their too-heavy dogs and cats can lose weight by being stuffed full of grains and fiber-filled pet food. The goal of many pet weight management formulas is to create a temporary feeling of fullness in dogs and cats so they won't beg for food. This takes the heat off owners who don't want to say no to a begging pet. One company has even gone so far as to invent a bizarre ingredient that when added to pet food impedes digestion so the animal feels full longer. And the gimmicks being employed! There's a 'meal replacement' drink for cats that contains not a scrap of animal protein. And then there's the 'weight management' dog food loaded with seven different kinds of grains and a special 'fat-burning' ingredient. 11
Parents of overweight pets would be wise to steer clear of the ever-evolving gimmicky 'weight loss' products appearing on store shelves. Almost without exception, these formulas contain as much if not more of exactly the type of food that is making pets fat in the first place. http://tinyurl.com/6p7t9g6 Kennel cough-One of the MOST Common Puppy Diseases http://tinyurl.com/87g5lhz This Tiny Segment of the Pet Food Market is Showing Remarkable Growth http://tinyurl.com/dogfoodtrend How to AVOID Common Dog Emergencies http://tinyurl.com/7vzk2w4 Saying No to Poor Quality Pet Food... Even When It's Recommended by Your Vet Story at-a-glance: The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has added a 5th "vital assessment" for veterinarians to use in determining the health status of dogs and cats. The newest assessment is nutrition; the other four are temperature, cardio function, respiratory health, and pain. The vast majority of integrative/holistic vets have always done nutritional assessments on their patients. Holisticallyoriented practitioners understand the quality of the food an animal eats plays a foundational role in the state of his health.
12
Unfortunately, a major manufacturer of 'therapeutic' veterinary pet foods is working with the AAHA to get the word out about the need for vets to do nutritional assessments. The pet food company has also increased its sales staff in order to pay more frequent visits to vet offices across the country. The ingredients in 'therapeutic' pet food formulas are often extremely poor quality and biologically inappropriate for carnivorous cats and dogs. The more you know about the nutrition your companion animal needs to be optimally healthy, the less likely you'll be to fall for a sales pitch for an inferior pet food – even if the sales person is your veterinarian. http://tinyurl.com/86flbqr Note:Dr. Becker is a licensed veterinarian in the state of Illinois and is certified in veterinary acupuncture and veterinary homeopathy.
