Beaches
Gouverneur Beach Of the 14 beaches on St. Barths this tops our list because of its remote, end-of-the-earth feel. To get there, you have to drive down a twisty, narrow road and the brave are rewarded with beautiful water and a long beach to make it feel as though you have it all to yourself. Before you is nothing but blue and behind you is all green. If you’re planning on going for most of the day make sure you pack lunch as there is no service on the beach. There’s a small area to park your car just in front of the beach entrance, and a little shade provided by the trees.
"Possibly our favorite on the island, daytime or sunset, truly magical."
St. Jean Beach St. Jean Beach is the most popular of St. Barths many beaches, mostly due to its convenient location and the beachfront hotels, restaurants, and activities. Like all of St. Barths beaches it has white sand, and its calm waters make for good snorkeling. However, St. Jean Beach is actually two separate beaches separated by Eden Rock, which is home to a resort of the same name and a place where you can lay back and watch the occasional plane take off and land at the nearby airport‌.and maybe sleep.
"The perfect beach for a wedding, see you Saturday."
Shell Beach
Shell Beach is unique on St. Barths because it’s the only major beach located in a town and is known for the millions of unique shells that wash up here. Shell Beach is within walking distance of the capital city of Gustavia. Shell Beach usually has calm waters and is a welcome respite after a day spent in the shops and boutiques in town. For a little adventure, there’s the opportunity to do some cliff-diving, and plenty of restaurants for lunch, dinner, and cocktails by the sea.
"Our favorite spot for sunset, watching it from here is amazing!"
Flamands Beach
If you like to bodysurf or boogie-board, Flamand Beach is a great choice because of its rolling (but rarely hazardous) surf. It’s also one of the largest beaches on St. Barths and offers plenty of shady palm trees and space to get away from the crowds. Swimmers will relish the fresh rolling waves for fairly gentle surfing. Along the shore are some high-class restuarants for delicious toes in sand lunches.
"A Relaxing long white sand beach, great place to enjoy the water."
Colombier Beach Colombier Beach tends to be one of St. Barths most deserted stretches of sand because it can only be reached by boat from Gustavia or via a half-hour hike from Flamands Beach. Also known as Rockefeller Beach, Colombier is worlds away from the island’s bustling capital, with calm waters, good snorkeling, and privacy aplenty. It does lack services, however, so bring plenty of drinks, snacks, and other beach supplies if you plan to spend the day.
"A real hike or a short boat ride but truly a one of a kind experience! A must do on the island!"
Restaurants
Bonito Executive chef Laurent Cantineaux and chef de cuisine Aurélien Rouille whip up light ceviche dishes at this Gustavia hotspot. An octopus tiradito comes with a black olive coulis, yellow potatoes, choclos, and cilantro; while the truffle ceviche features the catch of the day, truffle oil, sweet potato, and black truffle from Périgord. Main courses include spiny lobster risotto and beef rib eye to share, but you might be happy just ordering a bunch of ceviches and tiraditos to share. The nautical-chic restaurant is perched up on a hill, which makes for stellar views of the town below for those willing to take an early reservation.
Our Favorite Drink Sex in a Bath!
Our Favorite Plates Fresh Truffle Salad and The Wagyu Picanha or Sautéed Chilean Seabags
L'Isola If you’re craving great Italian, go for dinner at L’Isola. Beloved by both locals and visitors, this upscale Italian favorite wouldn’t feel out of place in a fashionable city like Milan or Paris. No, you won’t be sitting by the sea (the restaurant is tucked up a hill in Gustavia) but that’s a welcome trade-off for tasting some of the best dishes on the island. The head chef, who hails from Rome, is an expert at turning out homemade pastas, thick veal chops topped with sage, and Roman-style grilled artichokes so good you might weep with happiness. The handsome, smiling, mostly Italian waitstaff only adds to the charm.
Our Favorite Plate Rigatoni Almatriciana
Listen for the specials - always something delicious!
Tamarin One of our favorites! This is where the welcome night will be taking place! A 200-year-old tamarind tree marks the entrance of this lovely, atmospheric restaurant. Run by a young couple, Julie and Paco, Tamarin is easygoing by day, and more lively and convivial at night, when the expansive garden is lit, people have migrated to the foosball and ping pong tables, and the cocktails are flowing. Some tables are set in the garden itself, while others are sheltered under the main building and overlook lily-pad-lined ponds. The menu has a bit of everything: pan-fried foie gras, tuna tartare, chicken and hummus salad, and gambas a la plancha with soba noodles.
Our Favorite Plates Tuna Ceviche, the Chicken Breast, the Truffle Pasta or the Seared Tuna!
La Guerite
Located on Gustavia’s Harbor, with its Mediterranean-inspired decor, la Guérite Saint-Barthelemy will make you travel from the lemon trees of Amalfi, to the Cyclades. From grills to aromatic herbs and marinades, Chef Yiannis Kiorglou and his team are inviting you for an unforgettable food experience. This is one of Devon’s favorites!
Our Favorite Plates Slices of Prawns, Chef’s Special Pasta (always delicious) and The Wahoo!
Shellona
It’s on the famous Shell Beach, renowned for its thousands shells, that Shellona welcomes you. Enjoy an exceptional setting facing the Caribbean Sea, just below the Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barths and in the very heart of Gustavia. With its unique location, have lunch while listening to the DJ or live music bands, relax on one of their sunbeds or taste one of their cocktails admiring the most beautiful sunset of the island. Open from 11am - 7pm
Our Favorite Plates Feta Filo, Mahi Burger, The Fresh Lobster and finish with a Pain Perdu
L'Isoletta Craving pizza or a snack? Bringing the best of Italy to the Caribbean, L’Isoletta bills itself as a ‘Roman style’ pizzeria which specializes in preparing dishes the traditional way. Located in the heart of Gustavia, L’Isoletta sources their ingredients from the local market and their wines from Italy, the outdoor terrace is an especially comfortable environment to eat. Due to its close proximity to the bars and clubs of Gustavia, L’Isolletta is a perfect place to grab a bite before a night out on the town.
Our Favorite Plate PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA and LATE NIGHT PIZZA!
Bars & Nightlife
Bagatelle St. Barths Bagatelle, might’ve come from NYC, but the scene sure sizzles in St. Barths under the same franchise. It’s not only known for its delicious food, but most come here for the music, dancing, and the outstanding cocktails. And then, there are the mega-cocktails, meant to be shared among friends: the Super Mojito, Mega Sex on the Beach, and Olympic Piscine all serve six to eight. If you’ve done dinner elsewhere in Gustavia, definitely come by after, it can get pretty crazy!
"Great food and dancing on tables, best to visit on a Friday or Saturday!"
Le Ti St. Barths Le Ti St-Barths is a quasi-supper club, but with a hefty dose of Moulin Rouge in the mix. As you enjoy your dinner, you’ll be serenaded by dancers — both male and female — in a raucous burlesque show. While the performances can be a bit risqué and are not recommended for kids, it’s not offensive. Even if you do not join for dinner, stop by later for a chance to dress up, and delicious cocktails.
"Enjoy an inviting cabaret while you eat dinner and watch the place transform into a island nightclub!"
Nikki Beach
St. Barths wouldn’t be St. Barths without a day at some beach club. On Sundays, everyone’s at Nikki Beach on Baie de St. Jean. Yes, this world-renowned club is where things go down. Make sure to reserve a table, due to its popularity. For the best hair of the dog from day to night, you’ve gotta be Nikki’ed.
"Must not miss Sundays at Nikki Beach. Maybe a little cliche, but people watching and music makes for a great time!"
Shopping
Montaigne Market Like its flagship store in Paris, Montaigne Market fills its shelves with designs from Alexis, Balenciaga, Balmain, Chloé, Zimmermann, Givenchy, Valentino, and Yves Saint Laurent. Look for one-of-a-kind pieces, like Philip Karto’s funky, hand-painted, vintage Louis Vuitton bags. This is definitely the place to go for all high-end shoppers.
Volver Tucked into a pretty courtyard, this spacious shop is brimming with boho-chic pieces from exclusive labels including Lisa Marie Fernandez, Blumarine, Alexander Wang, MOTHER, See by Chloé, TCN, and Jérôme Dreyfuss. Make sure to check out the stunning jewelry by Gaskell during your visit.
Harbor Shops This is for the people who want a mix of all the best designers. Right in the Gustavia marina, you will find all the stores including Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dolce and Gabbana, Hermes and all fine jewelry.
