TRIED & TESTED: V You already know I’m a HUGE fan of Vida Glow especially their Marine Collagen powders, a couple of months ago they launched their skincare line, enriched with collagen to promote youthful looking skin. I’ve been using for about a month and the products are fantastic. I use the cleanser every day, the exfoliant 3 times a week, moisturiser 3 times a week, the mask once a week and my favorite is the Vitamin C serum which I use every day. Going to give myself a wrap here, my skin is glowing and close to flawless. THE EXERCISE CLASS THAT H
I have struggled over the years to find a cardio workout that I could stick to. I do Pilates reformer, barre and SUP but when it comes to cardio I have struggled to find one that I enjoy going to. The fitness arena is a crowded space and I’ve tried them all. My biggest problem is I would walk out of group classes and feel worse within myself than when I walked in. I’m 49 years old and I have some wear and tear; bulging discs in my back, neck and I am recovering now from bursitis (yep I’m a wreck). I would attempt a class and felt embarrassed & inadequate that I couldn’t do some of the exercises and would get looks from the trainers as if to say I was not putting in enough effort. I know what my body can do and can’t do. Not one instructor asked me before class if I had any injuries or anyone else for that matter. I even joined gyms just to use their treadmill, what a waste of money, I was basically going for a stroll. I am a self-motivator in a lot of areas, but exercise is not one of them. I’d get frustrated cause I wasn’t seeing any results. Well, I wonder why? I have never walked out feeling like I did until I started Orangetheory at Mosman. I love it. I worked my butt off and could see my results and how hard I was working up on the screen (everyone has a heart monitor on). Each class moves through 3 different stations including the treadmill, rowing and weight training. So, in the hour you are getting a full body workout. Spend about half the time on the treadmill and the rest is a mixture of floor and rowing. If it’s your first time the instructor takes the time to find out if you have an injury and will give your alternative exercises to do so you don’t miss out. The class begins and there are 3 zones that you work in; Base - warm up or recovery, Push – where you are getting uncomfortable, and All Out – really hard. Then the floor exercises you use weight, TRX or medicine balls. The instructor demonstrates the exercises and there is also a video on the screen showing you a how-to.

The theory is if you can stay in the orange zone for a minimum of 12 minutes you will continue to burn calories for a further 36 hours. I thought this would be impossible for me as I’m no athlete. My first class I managed 21 splats (this is what they call the time spent in zone) and 6 weeks on I average 25 splats with a high of 41 just last week. I don’t know whether it’s because the results are on the screen as you train, and you push yourself or I have finally found something that I bloody love; it’s probably both. The beauty is it doesn’t matter what fitness level you are at you are all getting the same results. There are power walkers and runners in the class and it doesn’t matter. Another bonus for me is their equipment is state of the art especially the treadmills. With my back injuries I couldn’t even walk around a shopping Centre without my lower back hurting after 20 minutes. I can do a whole hour at Orangetheory and other than muscle pain I have no joint or back pain at all. Poor technique can really lead to serious injuries and the staff at Orangetheory really care, I watched with a close eye and they are attentive to every member in that class, correcting techniques even on the rower. 6 weeks later and I’m working my schedule around fitting in 3 classes a week, hubby is going too and loves it. We work out together every Saturday morning then do brunch. Although weight loss wasn’t a big priority I have lost 5kg, my mental state is so good, I started getting foggy and running out of energy by 2pm every day. I am now flying through the day and getting so much done. If you are looking for a class that gives results, makes you work hard, and you walk out on a high this is the class for you.
