Eastern Lancaster County Library (ELANCO Library) is celebrating “Love Your Library” Month in February by sponsoring a “Share the Love” program. The “Share the Love” is part of the ELANCO Library’s effort to promote “Love Your

Library” Month, which is an initiative to encourage residents to invest into their local libraries. “Share the Love” is similar to the idea of paying it forward. From Monday, February 1 to Sunday, February 28, community members can come in and help to pay a

child’s fine. Donors can choose any amount to help this campaign. That amount will be allotted for a child’s fine on their account. The child is selected randomly and the donation is completely anonymous. Sometimes a fine can deter families from coming back

The Friends are looking forward to normal times when they can welcome faithful supporters back to their fundraisers. Consequently, the warm puffs of smoke from the chimney will only rise until they hit the stable inversion layer and then the smoke is no longer warmer than the ambient atmos phere, so it will fan out horizontally. Hard-working, creative, and an all-around kind person, Jayda Thomas is a senior at Ephrata High School whose personality and work ethic have set her above the rest. In school, Jayda is the president of both student council and Bible study. Her favorite part of school is the social aspect. She enjoys being able to build relationships with both her friends and her teachers. Outside of school, Jayda can be found working as a team leader at Fox Meadows Creamery. She plans on working there after she graduates to gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to run a business with the hope that, in the future, she can someday open her own business. Family is very important to Jayda. The person she admires most is her grandma, Ruth. Jayda has learned many important life lessons and skills from her grandma including what it means to truly love people. If Jayda could change something about the world today, she says it would be to, “Stop hate. We are all the same people and if we all love each other and agree to disagree, I think this place would be a whole lot better.” During the recent quarantine, Jayda discovered a love for decorating when she decided to paint a cabin in her backyard. She also liks to craft earrings and headbands. If flowers are involved, you can definitely count Jayda in. When asked if she had any advice for others, Jayda replied, “Being kind to people and loving others will take you further than you know.” With this mindset, and the support of her family and Written by: friends behind her, Jayda Thomas is Leah Kreider sure to shine as she takes on the world.

Katelyn Nolt is the February student of the month at Lititz Area Mennonite School. She is in the seventh grade and is kind, bubbly, encouraging, and a hard worker. Katelyn’s favorite subject in school is science. She enjoys science because of all the fun experiments they do. Katelyn is a part of the Lititz Area Mennonite School’s archery team. She also is a part of their choir. She enjoys being in both extracurricular events. She enjoys being a student at LAMS because of what she gets to learn, and she appreciates how God is at the center of the school. Some of Katelyn’s hobbies outside of school are reading historical fiction, playing outside, and doing crafts. When Katelyn grows up, she wants to be a teacher. Katelyn’s role model is her Grandma Hurst. She looks up to her Grandma Hurst because of how strong her faith is. Katelyn attends Cornerstone Mennonite Church with her family. Her favorite verse is Proverbs 3:56 which says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Katelyn says that one of her greatest achievements so far in life is scoring well at the archery tournament. THIS WEEK’S

Biblical Message

Real Meditation Author: Wenger Scripture: Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”

“Of good report.” The phrase “of good report” represents a Greek word, which is commonly used for “fairsounding,” or “auspicious,” “favorable” and “acceptable.” It was the good report about the Lord Jesus that brought the people from far and wide by the thousands to hear what He said and to be healed. “But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses.” (Luke 5:15) One of the primary qualifications for the early elders was that they have a good report from those who are outside the church. It is

interesting that God says look outside the church for a good report. I take that to mean; the authentic believer full of good works which is a result of a real inward conversion and convictions, will be obvious in all of life; business, family and community. In Acts 6:3 when they were seeking men for deacons, the Apostles instructed them to be sure they had a good reputation or report; “Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.” Do you remember the 12 spies that were sent out to investigate the land that the

Hebrew children were to possess? Ten of them came back with a negative report, i.e.: “We were grasshoppers in their sight, the land is good but the people are strong and they have fortified cities.” This report of unbelief caused God’s children to wander in the wilderness for forty years. Two spies, Joshua and Caleb, returned a good report that God was able to deliver them into their hands. The scripture says, “As for the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land and who returned and made all the congregation grumble against him by bringing a bad report concerning the land.” What attitudes and actions in our

life will generate a good report/bad report? We need to meditate on that which will produce a good report about us and others. “If there is any excellence.” Remember Daniel, who had an excellent spirit, even though he was in Babylonian captivity. “Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” (Daniel 6:3) Daniel’s life was on such a level of excellence that when the other jealous leaders tried to find accusation against him with regard to his duties, they couldn’t. Daniel 6:5 says,

“Finally these men said,” “We will never find any charge against this Daniel, unless we find something against him concerning the law of his God.” Dare to be a Daniel! Colossians 3:23, 24 says, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.” We can’t all be a Daniel and don’t have to be. We can be excellent if we do the very best we can in everything. Take that challenge to purpose the very best you can offer in every task and all that you do. Do it heartily! We must (Continued On Page 15A)

THIS WEEK’S

Biblical Message

(Continued From Page 12A)

realize everything we do is for the Lord and not man. It is also necessary to understand that we will receive a reward. Do we want to hear “well done thou good and faithful servant,” or not? So, what have we said about excellence? We must do the very best we can! Remember the parable of the talents; they all had different amounts. What was important is that they returned more than given instead of returning only what was entrusted to them. Stay focused on who we are serving in everything we do…the Lord, not man. All excellent service begets reward here and now and especially in the future. Meditate on excellence, purpose to push your life for it. Next week we will consider worthy of praise.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pennsylvania Farm Show held an at-home butter sculpture contest open to all Pennsylvanians, instead of the life-size butter sculpture usually on display at the Farm Show. Contestants were allowed to use up to five pounds of butter for the sculpture. There were five categories

in which contestants could enter: Elementary, Middle School, High School, Adult and Senior. All of the entries were posted on Facebook, and the top two entries in each category with the most reactions won a $50 gift card and $25 gift card, respectively, from Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association

members. Students in the Backyard Ag program at Ephrata Mennonite School were each given five pounds of butter donated by John F. Martin & Sons, Inc. for their project. As part of their learning, students also made butter with raw and pasteurized cream and then they compared the

Lititz Fire Company No. 1 was organized in 1894 and incorporated in 1905, although records show fire protection dating back to the 1790s in Lititz. The Lititz Fire Company No. 1 is still served by an all-volunteer firefighting crew more than 125 years later. The fire company protects a total of approximately 12 square miles, including 2.5 square miles in each Lititz Borough and Penn Township, and 7 square miles of Warwick Township. They serve an estimated 21,000 residents, plus thousands of employees who work within the community, and commuters who pass through their fire district daily. Lititz Fire Company No. 1 has 30 active volunteers, answering approximately 400 fire calls per year. The fire company trains weekly and focuses on state certified firefighter and rescue training, while nearly all continue on to become nationally-certified firefighters. The fire company is led by Fire Chief Michael Smith (shown in the top right photo) and President Mark Lovette. Shown in the top left photo (left to right) are members: (kneeling) Jevon Miller, Daniel York, Juston Wall, Ethan Tuten and Michael Madara; (middle row) Brian Gallagher, Ellen Bair, Benjamin Bomberger, Zach Miller and Michael Steffy; (back row) Tim York, James Korman, Devin Learn, Kevin Ford, Rich Parker, Ray Dorman and Samuel Habbershon. In addition to firefighting duties, the volunteers commit hundreds of man-hours each year to being on duty during community events, such as the Rotary Club Craft Show, Fire and Ice Festival, and the 4th of July activities. The fire company’s main source of income is their annual fund drive, which is mailed to all residents and businesses in the spring each year. Donations for the Lititz Fire Company can be mailed directly to P.O. Box 391 Lititz, PA 17543 or you can donate through their PayPal account via their website: www.lititzfire.org. Those interested in volunteering can also find a link on their website. Visit The Shopping News of Lancaster County on Facebook to see more photos of the Lititz Fire Company.
