Downtown Ephrata recently welcomed a new business to the area. ALittleHipp, an artisan gift shop, opened its doors for business in June of 2024. Owner Melissa Wentzel describes the shop as, “The Artist’s Walmart.” Wentzel, along with her daughter Torrie, friend Lois Blevins, and their new puppy Isla, hopes the shop will appeal to all local residents, giving them a wide variety of skillfully made handcrafted items to marvel at, purchase at their own pleasure, or buy as a gift.

The shop features many independent vendors selling their wares including everything from handmade and knitted clothing to functional items with a distinct artistic flair such as resin artwork, jewelry, paintings, and home décor items. “There is something here for everyone,” states Wentzel, who goes on to describe the sense of poetic inspiration everywhere you look within the shop. Wentzel has been helping vendors sell their art at flea

markets, craft shows, and open air markets for some time now. The monotony of performing these tasks along with the longing for stability, led Wentzel to open her own shop. Now that she is open for business, Wentzel says that she gets a great amount

of satisfaction from seeing her vendors’ products out in the open for customers to buy and appreciate.

“I have much work myself, Maybe another time.”

“Ask someone else to help you, They all have much more time.”

“I would surely gladly help you, But I have no time.”

We all know people like this, That always say to one, How much they have to hurry: They have no time to spare.

They have no time to help, If a friend should have help. They soon make an excuse, Why they have no time.

Yet they have plenty time for fun, For fishing and for hunting, And time to go to town And buy fancy clothes.

They run about here and there Ready for pleasure.

But if one asks them for a bit of help, You’ll hear: “I have no time.”

And then there are people that always Give their time willingly

To other folks in trouble.

Do you think, they just have “more time?”

Not so! Time is parceled out

Yes, one can be helpful to people, Or be self-centered.

No one has more time than the nextOne soon learns to know people.

And so time disappears for all, And I believe this is true. If someone wants to do a thing, They will have time for it. ***

On Grundsau Daag, Gladys S. Martin of Glenwood Drive in Ephrata mailed us KEN ZEIT; so early on the morning of February 5 we sat to our new CPT 8525 “Waddefresser” - which is much smarter than the earlier model, for it has a greater memory. This week KEN ZEIT makes its way into The Shopping News.

For a timely poem we again salute Gladys S. Martin of Effredaa with our Deitscher Schtrohhut! Later this spring we are hoping Gladys will be able to tackle the topic of disappearing words in the Mudderschprooch.

Cadets Received Lessons At Aero-Tech Services

The Lancaster Civil Air Patrol Jesse Jones Squadron 304 cadets embarked on an educational trip to AeroTech Services, Inc. at the Lititz Municipal Airport on Monday, June 10.

Allen Silks of Aero-Tech Services, Inc. presented an

engaging and informative talk on aviation mechanics to cadets and senior members of Jesse Jones Squadron 304. The talk included information about engine maintenance, spare parts tracking and avionics. There is currently a critical shortage of aircraft mechanics and this event highlighted the need many employers are facing and the many opportunities available to these cadets. Aero-Tech Services has been a steadfast supporter of the Jesse Jones Civil Air Patrol Squadron.

Jesse Jones Squadron 304 meets each Monday (except holidays) at 7:00 p.m. in the Venture Jets hangar, which is located, on the airport near the intersection of Lititz Pike and Millport Road. Visitors are always welcome. 9 9 9 9

Mortal Man

There is a tendency in our human nature to go to extremes, and some give extreme devotion to a spiritual leader. There can be a belief in the inerrancy of the one they choose to follow. If there is any unsound doctrine in their teaching and beliefs, it is often swept under the rug because of loyalty to a man rather than the Word.

“For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?” (1 Cor. 3:4).

As the Corinthians did, we still find members of the Body of Christ championing one spiritual leader over

another. This produces division and contention in the Church (1 Cor. 1:1012). It’s important for us to remember that no matter how effective or eloquent a Bible teacher is, he is only human; he makes mistakes, and he has shortcomings and weaknesses. We need always to be Berean in what is taught from God’s Word (Acts 17:11), including what is taught by those we trust.

“Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?” (1 Cor. 3:5).

Preachers and teachers of the Word are “ministers” or servants to bring people to Christ and establish them in the faith. It’s unwise to raise servants to the rank of master. While we should “esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake” (1 Thes. 5:13), our devotion belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ. If we follow a mortal man, we are headed for disappointment.

But we will never be disappointed when we keep our eyes on the Lord.

On the other side of the coin, sin, selfishness, and pride can lead some pastors and teachers to desire a following, accept adoration, and set themselves up as the authority on the Scriptures. We should watch for this kind of attitude among spiritual leaders. The true shepherd is someone who points people, not to himself, but to the Lord, “that in all things He might have the preeminence” (Col. 1:18). Godly leaders desire God’s people to follow Christ, His Word, and sound doctrine.

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase” (1 Cor. 3:6-7).

Paul shows why we should never glory in a man in the ministry. He teaches that the servant who plants the seeds of the gospel is nothing. Likewise, the

servant who waters the seeds of the gospel is nothing. Man does not have the power to bring forth spiritual life or fruit. “But God,” the God Who gives the increase, the life, and the fruit in the ministry, He is everything. Thus, our focus should not be on following this leader or that man. In the Church, we should be one in our desire to follow the Lord and to give the God of the increase the honor and glory He rightly deserves.

“Therefore let no man glory in men” (1 Cor. 3:21a).

Akron Summer Concert

Akron’s crowd favorite at last year’s Summer Concert Series was Mitch and the Moodswings. The summer concert has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 28 at 6:00 p.m. in Roland Park’s Pavilion 2. The Akron Borough Council invites the public to enjoy this free, fun and lively performance.

The audience connection to Mitch and the Moodswing’s music is simply magical, with audiences singing along (and sometimes dancing!) to the best of 60’s music, rock and roll, soul and Motown. 2024 marks the 20th season that the Moodswings have delighted audiences. Mitch Mohler, lead singer, said he and his band promise to “bring a smile” to those in attendance.

Take along lawn chairs and a picnic supper if you would like to!

Akron Fire Company Keeps It Cool For Open House Guests

Akron Fire Company held its annual Open House last week, and despite warm temps, they provided ample opportunities for visitors to stay cool. Kids could test their skills spraying a fire hose or play in the hose
spray fountain, or even enjoy soft serve ice cream. Shown in the photo, starting top left, is big sister Kenzie watching little sister Paisley as she operates the hose with junior firefighter Alejandra’s support; next
are the Zimmermans checking out a fire company scrapbook - left to right is Louise, Cheryl, Jenna and Leslie; next is Akron resident Adam Mertz who never hesitates to go all in with whatever he
undertakes, and here he is just arriving after a hot walk to the event and instantly seizes a golden opportunity to cool down; on the bottom right are girls emptying fire helmets full of rain water into the street grate after a
brief downpour occurred, and they include, from left to right, Brianna, Bella, Ava and Paisley; two young boys double down on cool by not only enjoying the
fountain, but getting a lemonade from a mom; and lastly, from left to right, are cousins Gabe and Henry, all decked out enjoying the event.
