Ephrata Mennonite School held an evening of prayerful thanksgiving, dedication, and open house to unveil its recently completed new school. Groundbreaking on the new facility occurred in 2021

and the school welcomed its first students this fall. Some fun facts were given, including: the original land cost $500 and the entire building cost $10,000; by 1996 over 1,600 students

had passed through the school; and it was noted that David Sauder served as principal for nearly 41 years.

Lititz Library Hosts Flag Folding Program For Kids

The Lititz Public Library hosts many programs for children and the most recent one included a visit from the Lititz VFW Post 1463 Ladies Auxiliary who presented a Flag Folding Ceremony. This

a first­time visit from the VFW to share this dignified event and to explain exactly what each fold means during the folding ceremony. The visiting auxiliary members shared flag laws, explained the Pledge of Allegiance, proper flag etiquette and handed out goodie bags with patriotic items. Gail Lyn Holmes

Gail Lyn Holmes, 79, passed away on August 22, 2023 at Cedar Haven Healthcare Center. She was born in Gloversville, NY to the late Robert Avery and Audrey (McCarthy) Avery. She was married to her loving and devoted husband, Robert M. Holmes.

Growing up in upstate New York, Gail loved adventure. She was known to ride horses, go tobogganing and ice skating. Her favorite topic of discussion in her later years was that of fishing at the family lake in Arietta, NY.

Gail had several careers including being a registered nurse, a realtor and an office manager for her son’s business. But her most important role in life was that of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family more than anything and provided much counsel to them as well as their friends over the years.

Gail loved to make others laugh and was always thinking of ways to bring other people joy. Christmas was her

A visitation took place for friends and family on Friday, September 1st at First United Methodist Church, 68 N. Church St. Ephrata, PA followed by a Celebration of her life and dinner. Gail’s final resting place is at the Bergstrasse Cemetery in Ephrata, PA.

Storytime At Lititz Library

Indoor Storytime will be offered at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, beginning Monday, September 18 and running through Thursday, November 16. Visit ZB Auto - Recently Opened In Mohnton

In the summer of 2023, Zach Boyer and his girlfriend Brandy Stuber opened ZB Auto in Mohnton. A graduate of the Automotive Technician Program at the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, Boyer has over ten years of experience working on vehicles. ZB Auto’s journey began in the spring of 2023, when Stuber encouraged Boyer to start his own business, after seeing her boyfriend’s obvious frustrations that arose from working for other people. Boyer took her advice and decided to start his own auto repair business, which he christened ZB Auto. Shortly thereafter, Boyer’s brother Matthew joined the team. Like Zach, Matthew also graduated from the LCCTC automotive program and has five plus years of real world experience. He is happy to work on all makes

and models, but feels his specialty is working on light to medium duty trucks.

ZB Auto is a full service automotive repair facility, performing State Safety Inspection, Emissions testing and general repair, as well as aftermarket and performance upgrades. You will also learn how to recognize the symptoms of being stuck in grief. Grief workbooks are available for a cost.

GriefShare meets on Tuesdays, beginning August 29 and goes through November 21 from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The sessions take place at the church, which is located at 491 Peach Road in Ephrata. Lititz Moravian Preschool Program

Lititz Moravian Preschool Story Hour is set to resume this fall on the third Friday of each month from Friday, September 15 through Friday, May 17. Story Hour will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Story Hour will be held in the Book Nook, which is

located on the second floor of the congregation’s Christian Education Building at 8 Church Square, Lititz. Children ages three to five are invited to come for an hour of stories, songs, movement, crafts, and a snack. The program is led by former kindergarten teachers Deb Hornberger and Shannon Richard. Hornberger says, “Our primary mission is to plant seeds of Christian faith and values in young children through shared literature. Each month has

a theme with a Christian message which we discuss in an age­appropriate way.”

Children need not be members of Lititz Moravian to attend. Parents or grandparents are asked to remain and participate with the children. The program is free. Lititz Senior Center Lists Activities

The Lancaster County Office of Aging, Lititz Senior Center, located at Lititz United Methodist Church, 201 East Market Street, Lititz, is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with lunch served at noon. There is no cost to attend.

The Center serves independent Lancaster County seniors ages 60 and up from Ephrata, Rothsville, Akron, Neffsville and Lititz areas. Ephrata is also served by van service. Reservations for lunch and transportation must be made by 10:00 a.m., one day in advance, by calling the Center at 717626­2800.

Rochester Institute Graduate

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) conferred more than 4,800 degrees at

Sealed in the Pit

(An excerpt from Revelation Volume 4, available in late 2018.)

“And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent,

which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season” (Rev. 20:1­3).

Satan will be seized and bound with “a great chain” by an angel, and then he will be hurled into the center of the earth and shut up in the pit. We are to take a literal interpretation of the Bible unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. That’s how God intended His Word to be understood and interpreted. When the Bible is not taken literally,

our understanding of the Word is left to the opinions and imaginations of fallible mankind…

After the Savior’s death on the cross, a seal was placed on the stone at the entrance of Christ’s tomb. Matthew 27:66 tells us, “So they went, and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.” On resurrection morning though, the seal was broken and the stone was rolled away, because Christ had conquered the grave. That seal could never have kept Him in that tomb. He is “the Resurrection, and the Life” (John 11:25). He is the “Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending… which is, and which was, and which is to come, the

Almighty” (Rev. 1:8).

A “seal” will be set upon the devil when he is shut in the bottomless pit. He is powerless to break that seal, demonstrating that he is a created being. If Satan could break this seal, he absolutely would. He will have 1000 years to try to break it, but he will fail.

This contrast shows that we who believe and are on the Lord’s side are on the side of power, victory, and hope. Those who are outside of Christ are on the side of weakness, defeat, and hopelessness. By faith in Christ alone, the unbelieving can be rescued and “delivered…from the power [authority] of darkness,

and…translated…into the kingdom of His dear Son” (Col. 1:13).

The seal placed upon Satan ensures that he will no longer deceive the nations during the 1000 years of Christ’s earthly kingdom. As we read in Revelation 20:3: “and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more.” Isaiah 14:12 says that he “weaken[s] the nations,” and he does this by his deceptions. Satan will be sealed in his prison, giving blessed relief to the earth and its inhabitants by his absence. He is the one “which deceiveth the whole world” (Rev. 12:9). With Satan locked up, the whole world will be set free from his deceits and wiles.

After the 1000­year phase of Christ’s earthly kingdom is “fulfilled… he must be loosed a little season.” Satan will not be rehabilitated during his 1000­year sentence. God reveals to us that Satan’s nature will not change even after 10 centuries of confinement. He will remain proud, defiant, and at enmity against God. His hatred of God will only burn hotter after the 1000 years. By Satan being released, God also reveals that mankind doesn’t change either. After 1000 years, we see how susceptible mankind will still be to Satan’s deceptions and methods, as the number who are deceived and follow

him will be “as the sand of the sea” (Rev. 20:8).

The loosing of Satan for a short time is part of God’s sovereign plan: “he must be loosed” (v. 3). Everything God does is good and righteous and has a purpose. Mankind has a free will and, at the close of the Millennium, just prior to the eternal state, God gives the inhabitants of Christ’s earthly kingdom one last opportunity to believe in Christ or reject Him. After 1000 years of peace and righteousness, with the world as it should be, will they “have this Man to reign over” them (Luke 19:14)? The answer from the unbelieving world will be a resounding “No!”

Many think that the world can be fixed through politics and human government. If we just get this political ruler or that political ruler in office, then everything will be all right. It’s a gross understatement to call that wishful thinking. Even when the perfect Ruler reigns over the world for 1,000 years, the world will still choose evil. Even if the world were all that it could be, people would still reject Christ. It all stems from the heart of

10 oz. bag frozen whole kernel corn, cooked, OR kernels from 4 ears of fresh corn

1 small bell pepper, finely chopped

¼ cup vegetable oil

Beat the flour, milk, sugar, salt, pepper and egg yolks in a medium bowl. Stir in the corn and bell pepper. Beat the egg whites until stiff and glossy. Fold corn mixture into the egg whites. Heat the oil in a 10” skillet. Drop the corn mixture by tablespoonfuls into the hot oil. Fry about 30 seconds on each side, until golden brown.

Makes about 6 servings.

Inside Out Creamy Green Pepper Dressing

“This is my favorite dressing I make to put on my salads.”

1½ cups of real mayonnaise

½ cup finely chopped green pepper

¼ cup finely chopped parsley

¼ cup finely chopped onion

¼ cup Karo light corn syrup

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

½ teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon pepper

In a bowl, stir together all ingredients until well blended. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours to blend flavors. Makes 2¼ cups.

Polish Burgers

Mary Ann Dell, East Earl

1 lb. ground beef

1 small onion, diced

½ green pepper, diced

1 egg

2 tablespoons ketchup

¼ teaspoon sea salt

2 slices white bread, torn into small pieces cooking spray with olive oil

Mix together ground beef, onion, egg, ketchup and salt in a bowl; mix in the bread pieces until evenly distributed. Form four patties out of the mixture. Spray a large skillet with cooking spray and set over medium heat. Cook the burgers until well­browned on the bottom, about 10 minutes. Flip the burgers and cook until meat is no longer pink and the juices run clear, 8 to 10 minutes. Serves 4.

Stuffed Pepper

Casserole

2 cups chicken broth

1 cup rice (not instant)

1 lb. ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

2 medium bell peppers, seeded and chopped

1½ cups spaghetti sauce or tomato sauce

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Boil broth and pour over rice in a greased 9”x13” pan.

Brown meat with pepper and onion; drain well. Add sauce and pour over rice. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes uncovered.

Colorful Grilled Veggies

10 cherry tomatoes, halved

2 celery ribs, thinly sliced

1 medium green pepper, sliced

1 medium red pepper, sliced

1 medium red onion, sliced and separated into rings

1 cup sliced mushrooms

Dressing:

1 tablespoon red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 garlic clove, minced

1 teaspoon dried basil

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

Divide the vegetables between two pieces of aluminum foil (about 18” square).

In a small bowl, combine the dressing ingredients; drizzle over vegetables.

Fold foil around the veggies and seal tightly. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until veggies are crisp­tender.

Pepper Relish

12 red peppers

12 green peppers

12 medium onions

6 cups vinegar

6 cups sugar

3 tablespoons salt

Grind peppers and onions in a food chopper using a course blade. Put into colander and pour boiling water over all. Drain well. Combine vinegar, sugar and salt; add peppers and onions. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.

Seal in hot sterilized pint jars. Makes 9 pints.

Filled Peppers

1½ lbs. Velveeta cheese, room temperature

2 tablespoons vinegar

1/3 cup sugar

1 teaspoon Worcestershire

sauce

1/3 cup Miracle Whip black pepper (optional)

1 sleeve saltine crackers

8 to 10 bell peppers

When cheese has softened, mix with vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Miracle Whip and black pepper. Break saltine crackers into small pieces

and combine with cheese mixture. Fill fresh peppers. Keep cold.

Kerri L. (Brumbach) Tomlinson

Kerri L. (Brumbach) Tomlinson, 52, of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Ephrata to the late Robert K. and Shirley A. (Reitz) Brumbach.

Kerri was a lifetime member of VFW Auxiliary, Ephrata Amvets. She enjoyed camping and going to the beach. She adored dogs and loved to read, especially autobiographies.

Kerri was a 1989 graduate of Ephrata High School. She went on to YTI where she

attained several certifications. She worked for Donnelley Printing for 18 years.

Kerri is survived by 2 sons: Gage Tomlinson and Hunter Tomlinson; her companion, Duane Kreider; step-son, Kyle Kreider; and 5 siblings, Lon Brumbach, husband of Joan, Bobbi Weaver, wife of Galen, Brent Brumbach, Loren Moshier, wife of Merv, Holly Brumbach, companion of Jim Kohler; along with many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, 10:00 am, with Pastor Larry Kipp officiating. Interment will take place in the Hammer Creek Mennonite Cemetery.
