Before deciding on decorations, flowers and design, a couple must first consider where they want to have their wedding. Choosing a venue for that special day doesn’t have to be stressful. To choose the location perfect for your big day , keep these tips in mind:

What can you afford? – Before venturing out to tour locations, it’s important to know your price point. You don’t want to fall in love with a place only to find out you can’t even afford the taxes. Set your venue budget before proceeding. On average, couples spend just over $5,000 on the venue. Setting this price point is important because it takes a big portion of the entire wedding budget.

How many are coming? - You need a guest count before you can really choose a venue. Wedding venues have a maximum capacity count, which means you need to know how many guests might be coming before you sign on the dotted line. What fits your vision? – Once the business questions are answered, it’s time for the fun part. What do you envision for the big day? Start looking online at pictures of local venues. See if any of them speak to you. Take guided tours and see if you can see yourself saying I do at that location.

Consider dates – You might have a date in mind, but the venue you are most interested in may not be available. In the early stages, don’t be afraid to have a few dates in mind in case a back-up plan is needed.

Get it in writing – Once you’ve found what you are looking for, get a contract in place. It’s important to remember that wedding venue contracts aren’t as straightforward as one might expect. Ask questions, make sure you are clear on all payment schedules, cancellation policies and in-house requirements.
