Boomers Beyond &
Aging Part I – There has to be a better way As we get older and we start dealing with hot flashes, brain fog, lack of sleep and realize we have no control over the mood swings that seem to take over our lives some days. The answer, even though for some it might seem farfetched, is yes. There is help out there with sleep, some help to relieve those hot flashes and some help in dealing with the mood swings where you feel like you could have a real shot at auditioning for the new ‘Exorcist’ movie. In the next few months, we will explore topics such as hormone replacement therapy. What is it? Is it safe? What do the experts say? Is it something for you? We will also explore the natural ways of dealing with postmenopause and what experts say really works. In the meantime, here are a few tips to keep in mind day-to-day: • Eat food rich in calcium and vitamin D as both promote good bone health. • Your weight does matter. Let’s face it, we hear this even in our younger years. Healthy weight is just a good thing in helping with aging and genetics. • Avoid the foods that experts call trigger foods for hot flashes. Once example is caffeine. It’s also helpful to cut down on sweets and spicy dishes. By: Thelma Grimes
