SHORTGRASS LIBRARY SYSTEM CELEBRATES 25 YEARS 2013 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Shortgrass Library System. In March 1988, after many years of work, the Shortgrass Library Project became the fifth regional library system established in Alberta. Today, Shortgrass is one of seven regional library systems and part of an active resource sharing network of libraries across the province of Alberta. Shortgrass is a not-for-profit organization that provides logistical support to the 12 public libraries of Southeast Alberta. On June 19, 2013, Shortgrass Library System is hosting a closed event at Medalta Potteries to thank its partners. “We are pleased at the opportunity to celebrate our system’s successes with our member municipalities, libraries and partner organizations”, say Board Chair Kathi Herman. “Shortgrass only exists because the municipalities agreed to collaborate to provide better library service to their residents. Everyone benefits when we pool our resources and expertise.” Recent enhancements to library service include new websites for all 12 member public libraries, DVD repairing services available to member libraries and their customers and ongoing purchases to meet the ever growing demand for eBooks. “The Shortgrass team has worked hard to ensure the services we provide are relevant and flexible to meet library users’ needs and we look forward to the next 25 years of enhancing library services in Southeast Alberta,” says Shortgrass CEO Petra Mauerhoff. Also at the anniversary event the winner will be drawn for the Shortgrass iPad Mini contest. The contest automatically entered every new and renewed membership at any Shortgrass member library between March 1st and June 15th, 2013. Libraries in Southeast Alberta remain vibrant parts of their communities and Shortgrass Library System staff and board are proud of their history of providing quality library support services for the past 25 years.
