Using TAL Online for Interlibrary Loan Requests Step 1: TAL Online includes over 16 million books, CDs, DVDs, and database content owned or licensed by Alberta's libraries. To request items, library cardholders can use the TAL Online website at www.talonline.ca. Step 2: In the search box, enter in the keyword, title, or author you are looking for. To improve your search, you may want to use the category tabs located above the search bar or by using the “Advanced Search” option. Then press “Go”. Step 3: From the generated list, locate the item you are looking for and then, click on the title of that item. If your item is not found, you may need to use the “Advanced Search” option.
Step 4: Under the Find a copy in the library heading, enter in your postal code so that the system can identify libraries within your region that may carry this title. Then, click “Find libraries”. Once a list has been generated, click “Request”.
Using TAL Online for Interlibrary Loan Requests Step 5: Where it says Choose your library, type in name of the library or browse through the list and click on its name. Then, click “Select”.
Step 6: In order to complete the request, you will need to type in the library card barcode number (found on the back of the library card) and PIN number. Then, click on “Place Request”.
Step 7: This will be the last step to complete before the request is submitted. Confirm that all of the request information is correct. If you wish to receive an email confirmation for this request, enter in your email address (it is not necessary to include an email address to process the request). Finally, click “Confirm Request” to submit the request.
