By Kristen Wich When Karen Kurzman made the decision to move back to the area, to her childhood summer home in Westerly, Rhode Island, she knew she would have to do something with the rundown cottage. “The house was in bad shape,” she said. “I knew it would need to be torn down.” Kurzman had heard a lot about modular construction over the years, and decided to visit a local homeshow, to meet builders, and to research the possibility of erecting a modular home on her property. She met with five builders, and gathered a wealth of information. Of the five builders she met with, just one followed up with her - Attila Keller of Ricon Homes. “I never heard from the other four builders,” said Kurzman. “And after speaking to Attila, I knew he would be easy to work with.” Karen and her cousin, a local architect, worked together to design the house that suited her needs. They presented the design to Keller in the hopes that he could find a modular design that was similar. Keller took it one step further, and told Karen he could build that exact home for her, to her specifications.
