It’s summertime and snowbirds have officially flown the South Florida coop. But where, exactly? Warmer (and cooler) climes await at these high-end destinations where you’ll find South Florida’s winter set beating the heat in style.

The Hamptons

Few places make a perfect pair quite like Palm Beach and the Hamptons. Both exclusive enclaves of the wealthy and A-listed, one shines with glorious weather in the winter, with the other taking over for the summer. Expect sun, sand, and surf in both, as well as ritzy stores and in-demand restaurant reservations.

Aspen

Après-ski in Aspen is one of winter’s best places to see and be seen, but it’s not a bad place to be caught come summertime, either. Sunny and warm with fields of flowers in full bloom, it’s an idyllic setting for hiking, mountain biking, and festivals like the popular Food and Wine Classic. Plus, you can get out on the water at Roaring Fork River via paddleboarding, kayaking, or even fly fishing.

Nantucket

No place screams summer quite like this tiny island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Nantucket is insulated from the real world with shingled architecture, dune-lined beaches, charming wharves, cobblestone streets, and centuries of history. Still, even the most discerning visitors will find the restaurants and high-end boutiques up to their standards.

Monaco

Those with transportation means of their own and a desire to be hidden away amongst the world’s elite head for Monaco. Plan to arrive by yacht, private plane, or helicopter to fit in with the jet set. This microstate on the French Riviera is a beautiful spot to summer, complete with events, festivals, and plenty of excuses to dress up in your finest frock. No yacht of your own yet? Try your luck at the famous Monte Carlo Casino and cross your fingers.

Amalfi Coast

It’s not summer without at least a week on the Amalfi Coast of Italy, eating your fill of fresh pasta and pizza and sipping on sweet limoncello. Village-hop between Positano, Salerno, and Sorrento for the full experience, and make sure your Prada shades won’t darken the view of the area’s gorgeous pastel-colored cliffside homes and rugged Mediterranean Sea beaches.
