Philip Treacy

Treacy is widely considered the most famous living milliner. He was the first designer to show a collection dedicated to hats during Paris Couture Fashion Week in 2000 and has gone on to win British Accessory Designer of the year. Hotel Chocolat

Designer of the Year five times and recognised early on as a milliner of outstanding technique and originality, Treacy creates hats that are often

oversized and striking. He likes working with feathers, which he twists, curls and singes into fantastic shapes such as a two-foot high sailing ship or into delicate feather bonnets, which wrap around the face. Many of his hats resemble sculptures, with balance playing a key role. Treacy has created vast, concave straw discs which point upwards, huge basket weave platters attached to a tiny satin cap and shirred satin in huge spirals and oyster shapes which frame the face. A master craftsman, Treacy blends elements of surrealism, mathematics and abstract art into his hat making. 69 Elizabeth Street, SW1W 4AS Tel 020 7730 3992 | philiptreacy.co.uk

Landmarks & Sights Vincent Square Nestled away behind Vauxhall Bridge Road is one of Victoria’s lesser known spots: Vincent Square. Boys from Westminster School traditionally used the fields that were to become the square, for outdoor pursuits, including golf and cricket, but also for public school pastimes that have generally fallen out of favour such as ditch leaping and snipe shooting.

As the area became more developed at the end of the 18th Century the space diminished and the headmaster of the school, William Vincent, took it upon himself to preserve some of the land as a playing field. Today it is a tranquil sporting haven among the bustling streets of Victoria, hosting tennis courts, netball courts, football pitches, cricket nets, and, of course, the beautifully maintained cricket pitch itself. St. James’s Park St. James’s Park is at the heart of ceremonial London. It is the setting for spectacular pageants, like Trooping the Colour, and is surrounded by some of the country’s most famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, St. James’s Palace and Westminster Abbey. But there is also another side to St. James’s Park; it is a tranquil place, perfect for relaxing in a deckchair and watching the world, or even a pelican, go by. Dean's Yard Next to Westminster Abbey and known simply as ‘Green’ by the pupils of Westminster School, Dean’s Yard is closed to traffic and is used by Westminster School for football. In the summer months this is a lovely, quiet space to relax. Dean’s Yard Westminster Abbey — 37
