GET INSPIRED BLOSSOMING
By Yoko Chapman, Editor + Creative DirectorGardens, and the process of their cultivation, have been synonymous with life, love, and community since ancient times. A garden is universally understood to be a safe and peaceful haven where all living things live and work together to nurture and sustain the system of life. This concept of togetherness and community has made gardens, nature, and outdoor spaces in general, an obvious choice for hosting all kinds of special life celebrations. And a beautiful garden bursting with life, potential, and hope, remains without question, the most beloved and adored venue for celebrating weddings, unions, love stories, and life's new chapters with the people we love and care for.
During Victorian times, Floriography – the language of flowers – became a popular way in England and the United States, for an admirer to send a secret coded message during a time when discretely expressing feelings of love and adornment was socially expected. Each flower could

send a different message, the most notorious of which was romantic love, symbolized by a deep, red rose.
In this issue of Wonderful Weddings, local event design pros share a stunning array of floral design inspired by fields of wildflowers, blooms bursting with colour, romantic neutral palettes, and midnight skies, to help you imagine and create intimate and personalized wedding festivities showcasing nature's artwork.
There are options aplenty for celebrating your wedding, shower, bachelor(ette)x parties, or pre-wedding get-togethers in 2023. Elevated garden parties, decadent food and beverage presentations designed for sharing, cozy and familiar gatherings close to home, and even including your creature companions, are all top trends for celebrating your love story with cherished family and friends. 1

PERSONALIZED DESIGN AND D É COR FOR ANY EVENT
here are many aspects to bringing together a beautiful, memorable, and unique wedding day experience. My name is Rick Mayhew and I am the owner/operator of the company Decorations by Rick. I have been in business for over 25 years and my PASSION is to create that “Magical” feeling that couples deserve on their special day, whether for 50 or 500 guests.
Growing up I was always a creative person, so it was not surprising that I would end up in this profession. I do all types of events including fundraising galas, bar and bat mitzvahs, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, debuts and weddings. I can be a one-stop-shop by offering linens, chair covers, backdrops, ceiling swagging, centrepieces, crystals, flowers, LED wall washing, Chiavari chairs, dishes, stemware, tents, dance floors and so much more.
Weddings are one of my favourite events to decorate. I have decorated every event venue in Winnipeg and surrounding areas, including barns and tents. I have a showroom on Grant Avenue which has hundreds of choices for linens, chair covers, centrepieces, lighting, and accessories to help create an amazing room that couples will want to share with their guests.
I enjoy the process of meeting with a potential couple in my showroom. I love the glow on their faces and the sparkle in their eyes as they share inspiration and images with me of what they see as their perfect wedding. This tells me what type of couple they are. As a decorator, you need to design around the couple’s vision and taste. I do not cookie-cut a wedding design. I look at the couple, share ideas, and then create an image of what their special, unique day will look like. When couples come to my showroom, many are overwhelmed with how to pull together colours, textures, and accessories to create a beautiful space. My job is to help them choose all that reflects who they are. Sharing ideas with the client by setting up a table with different linen styles and colours, centrepieces, and accessories, I always watch their expression when I choose a combination of items, ready to switch if need be. The expressions on their faces says it all and helps me make the right choices for them.
Remember, your wedding day is one of the most important moments in your life and you will want it to be an elegant, beautiful, and memorable affair. Whether you have a huge budget or not, do it right by choosing a decorator who is creative, flexible, and understands your taste and needs. I pride myself on taking away all the stress that comes with putting together your reception and giving you an unbelievable magical room that you, your friends, and family deserve and will enjoy.

“Joey was so adaptable to our ever changing plans due to COVID-19 and was able to pivot quickly when it started raining on our wedding day. The videos that we have been given have far surpassed what I expected. They’re beautiful! The attention to detail was immaculate. 10/10” – Reily & Justin
he best part of capturing a wedding is that each day is unique and you never know how it will unfold. Brannek Video Productions is entering its 25th wedding season in 2023. There are few other videography companies that have lasted over two decades in this industry and have been able to keep up with the technological advancements. Brannek’s experience, expertise, and adaptability set them apart from the competition.
Each wedding day is filmed and edited in a narrative, story-telling style. Brannek Video Productions uses their extensive work in documentary and awareness filmmaking as a crossover for finding the perfect way to tell your wedding day story. “For me, every film shoot is a new adventure. I’ll be there to capture yours, as you begin your new life together,” says Joey Forte, Owner, Brannek Video.
Brannek is most proud when they hear that the couple, after just watching their wedding video, cried tears of joy reliving their special day, or when a client from a decade ago reconnects to let them know that they watched their wedding video with their children for the first time.
Having a passion for filmmaking and cinematography at a young age, Joey turned a beloved hobby into a career after establishing Brannek Video Productions in 1998 and has been producing freelance video projects ever since.
While enjoying the live event and service sector of the industry, Joey has recently focused his attention on producing content for awareness and education in the community through such organizations as Abilities Manitoba, CISA (Canadian Institute for the Study of Antisemitism) and The Family Advocacy Network to name a few.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! The Wonderful Wedding Show is back in full swing and preparing to wow newly engaged couples with 100,000 square feet of everything wedding.
This year's show is inspired by garden style celebrations. "We're excited to launch our new Garden Party show feature, hosted by Bronze + Vine. Garden celebrations are at the top of everyone's list right now, for everything from wedding showers to bachelor(ette)x parties. It's not just about the wedding, people want elevated experiences for the pre-wedding parties too," says Sherri Rheubottom, Show Manager and Producer.
Continuing the garden theme, select vendors will transform the new Inspiration Gallery into "Four Seasons" of floral and tablescape inspiration for couples to experience Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter garden-inspired wedding decor as they walk through the Gallery.
The show's daily fashion shows will also offer a tribute to nature, featuring floral accents and garden-inspired looks. "Our magazine fashion editorial shoot this year was in the English Garden at Assiniboine Park and we're so excited to also bring garden vibes to the runway at the show," says Sherri.
And because a Garden Party isn't complete without some bubbly, during the show guests can enjoy curated cocktails at the Lux Bar in the popular Love Lounge, presented by Eph Apparel. The Love Lounge was inspired by the show's partnership with Love is Love Collectives, a national collaborative collection of wedding resources for 2SLGBTQ+ folks.
Along with pampering in the Magic Room Spa, scotch and bourbon tasting in the Thomas Hinds Sampling Room, a chance to win a $25,000 Dream Wedding or a Dream Garden Party Wedding Shower, the 2023 show is definitely ready to get the party started.

WEDDING MAKEUP TRENDS
HIGHLIGHT YOUR BEST FEATURES WITH MAKEUP FAVES FROM THE ARTIST GROUPE
By Kelly Cherewick, Makeup Artist + Owner of The Artist Groupeveryone wants to look their very best for their wedding, and this year’s couples are more than ready to be front and centre on their big day!
After picking out your wedding attire, it’s time to start looking for your wedding day makeup inspiration. Look no further, as The Artist Groupe has done the work for you. Every year, a new trend pops up for wedding makeup looks, and 2023 is going to be amazing! Book a trial with your makeup artist and have fun!
1. Blushing Beauties. Rosy cheeks and weddings go hand in hand, so it’s no surprise to see lots of blush on the runways during New York Fashion Week. Pinks, corals, bronzes in creams, sheer powders and liquids, are the go-to this season (but be careful not to overdo it). Applying the product with a brush to the apples of the cheeks and sweeping it up towards your temples will give a natural finish and instant face lift. My faves are NARS liquid blush in Orgasm, and Huda Beauty in Rusty Red.
2. Bronze Coloured Lids. This year, the eyes will be the focus with bronzy colours for a goddess-inspired look. An over constructed eye is no longer the desired look (think a cut crease), but rather, a gentle sweep of gold or bronze to the lid that’s defined with liner and mascara. My faves are Amber Lights by MAC and Kitten Karma by Stila.
3. Luminous Skin. No more matte foundation, it’s all about the glow! To get that luminous complexion, use a cream on the high planes of your face underbrows and cheekbones, and carry it onto the decolletage and shoulders. My faves are Strobe Cream by MAC and Face and Body Illuminator by TAG Cosmetics.
4. Gloss. Glossy lips are back, baby! Juicy, kissable lips look amazing in photos and in real life – they give your pretty pout an instant plump! Pinks, peaches and bright reds with a lip liner are this year’s must haves. My faves are TAG Cosmetics' gloss in Heartbreaker, and MAC’s Lipglass in Nymphette.
5. Fluffy Lashes. Complete your look by adding extra false lashes and watch your eyes pop! Individual lashes are fun, or add a whole set to give a more dramatic look. My faves are MAC's #7 or KISS' So Wispy.

FOR MALES
BLACKSMITH PARLOUR OFFERS UPSCALE SALON SERVICES AND GROOMING FOR THE MODERN MAN
roud to be the very first of its kind in Canada, Blacksmith Parlour, located at 289 Garry Street in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, specializes in men’s grooming including hair removal services, facials, and hand and foot treatments. Since 2017, this cutting edge upscale salon for men has been an oasis providing a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere where guests can sink right into their oversized leather chairs, put on a pair of headsets to watch their own personal television, and sip on a complimentary signature alcoholic beverage. Fully licensed, the salon carries a selection of spirits and beers, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.
Blacksmith Parlour’s Nails for Males is the perfect solution for guys who don’t want to do ordinary for their pre-wedding celebrations. Wedding party grooming sessions are the perfect solution to take things up a notch.
Grooms can book their bachelor parties to kick off their evening at the salon with some much deserved pre-wedding pampering and complimentary cocktails, and then head over to Thomas Hinds Sampling Room on Carlton Street to continue the party with scotches, bourbons, and more.
Wedding parties can also visit a few nights before the big day to treat their groomsmen to a relaxing treatment and grooming prep. Grooms have even been known to spend an evening with their dad and father-in-law the night before the wedding as a great bonding activity.
Not just for special events, hand and foot treatments, facials, beard massages, waxing services, and the health benefits that come along with these relaxing services, have become a frequent regiment that enhance personal hygiene and appearance for many of their guests. Each luxurious hand and foot treatment comes with the option of clear polish, repair polish, matte polish, or a buff and shine. Locally sourced, high-quality, industry-leading lotions, beard oils, and medicated creams for treating cracked skin and ingrown nails, are available for purchase to use at home on a daily basis.
Blacksmith Parlour was the creation of owner, Steven Zacharuk. He cleverly renovated the unique space, adding brick walls and barn wood to create an industrial, rustic vibe in keeping with the old building's history. He wanted it to feel like a blacksmith shop since they make horseshoes to protect horses’ nails –hence the Blacksmith Parlour name. Facials and hair removal services also take place within the private space provided by a renovated vintage bank vault, and glass walls are shared with a barber shop at the front of the building.
Book online to treat yourself and your wedding party to a relaxing and therapeutic day of salon services at Blacksmith Parlour. You can also purchase gift cards for your friends and groomsmen to enjoy nail trimming and shaping, cuticle care, warm towel wraps, and hand, foot and leg massages on a future date.
"We offer a place where men can treat themselves to upscale nail services while relaxing in oversized leather chairs with personal televisions and headsets, while enjoying one of our included signature alcoholic beverages” – Steven Zacharuk
REAL WEDDING STORIES FROM WINNIPEG COUPLES
Photo: Casey Nolin PhotographySTEPHANIE & RANDELL
September 10, 2022
Stephanie and Randell were best friends for a few years in university before they ever dated.
Randell proposed to Stephanie at her family cabin, setting up strings of lights and memorable pictures along a pathway that lead her to the same spot he first told Stephanie he was falling for her. After Stephanie said yes, she was surprised to see that Randell had brought all their closest family and friends to the cabin by boat to celebrate right after.
For the wedding, Stephanie and Randell knew they wanted to make it their own. For them, the best way to do this was by using their own property. Stephanie’s uncle graciously allowed them to use his yard and made their wish a reality. Stephanie and Randell wanted their wedding to be rustic with an authentic feel, using earth tones and personal touches throughout.

AYNSLEY & MIKE
ynsley and Mike's engagement started with a surprise proposal at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods in the summer of 2020. They were on the dock watching the sunset, when Mike got down on one knee and asked Aynsley to marry him – she of course said yes!
This busy couple decided early on to work with a wedding planner and they were happy they did! She helped bring their vision to life and incorporate meaningful personal elements. As co-owner of Sweet Impressions bakery, Aynsley wanted a big dessert table complete with two doughnut walls (Mike’s favourite), cookies, cupcakes, and a classic three-tier buttercream cake with fresh florals and polka dots (her favourite). Mike is a firefighter/paramedic, and they decided to tie that in by including little gold fire trucks in their decor and taking their wedding party photos at the fire hall.
The wedding took place at Winnipeg Art Gallery, and while the weather prevented their rooftop ceremony, the Skylight Gallery was a beautiful backup. They wrote and exchanged their own vows in a personal ceremony that included their dog Roxanne. A cocktail reception followed in Eckhardt Hall with a live band and DJ who kept the dance floor packed all night long.
"Our wedding day was so much fun! It was an absolute dream to have all of our favourite people there to celebrate with us!"

ALYSSA & DAVE
ave and Alyssa were friends first, becoming teammates on a recreational sports team. The friendship continued for many years before Dave finally asked Alyssa out on date. Things moved swiftly after that, and only a year and a half later, the couple got engaged on a weekend trip to Riding Mountain National Park. After a day full of their favourite activities including hiking and horseback riding, Dave popped the question at sunset on the water. The wedding planning took place during the height of the pandemic which posed some challenges, but great vendors put the couple at ease and made the whole experience enjoyable. Alyssa and Dave’s vision for their wedding was to have a timeless look. Black and white were the key colors. Floor length dresses and classic black suits with bow ties were the wedding party attire. The florals were predominantly white, with pops of toffee roses and black-eyed anemones to tie everything together. Simple décor was all that was needed with the elegant backdrop of their chosen venue, the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Clean and classic photography pulled the whole vision together for a perfect day.
“It was the most amazing day of our lives, and in the end, everything came together perfectly."
