How do the VITA HAIR™ Nourishing Vitamins work? Biotin vitamin is the first vitamin thought of when considering HAIR GROWTH. The major benefit of Biotin is its ability to strengthen both the hair follicle and the hair shaft, where the hair is produced, which prevents hair breakage and dryness. This is a scientifically proven crucial step in the natural hair growing process. One of the chief things that slows hair growth is damaged hair. Biotin enriched hair has increased elasticity of the cortex which prevents breakage. This enables healthy, FASTER HAIR GROWTH. Biotin also thickens the actual hair cuticle providing a fuller appearance. Pro-Vitamin B-5 is considered the king of all HAIR CARE vitamins. Pro-Vitamin B-5 stimulates healthy scalp circulation which leads to improved hair health. It coats the hair and seals its surface, lubricating the hair shaft making the hair shine. It possesses superior long term moisturizing properties because of its unique ability to penetrate and nourish the hair shaft. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that stimulates circulation to the skin and supports capillary growth. The skin needs to have proper circulation in order to keep the hair follicles alive and thriving. When there are more capillaries, the circulation improves leading to increased nutrient absorption into the hair follicles, which speeds hair growth.

Sullivan’s
Vita Hair Volumizer Foaming Shampoo ™
The first livestock shampoo to scientifically produce hair volume!
Vita Hair Volumizer™ Foaming Shampoo is formulated with a natural plant-based proprietary surfactant technology which creates an opposite acting polar electrical charge within each hair strand that actually pushes every hair follicle apart. This prevents the hair from sticking together, and actually springs it loose, making each hair follicle stand on end for a noticeable difference in hair volume and body. This, never before offered, exclusive chemistry for livestock consists of chemically altered ions. Ions are small electrical molecules within surfactants that usually have positive or negative charges which create an attraction to each other. In livestock hair, this attraction causes hair follicles to stick to each other. The non-ionic chemistry of Vita Hair Volumizer™ inhibits an unusual neutral charge to the ionic molecule of each follicle creating no attraction or pull between the hair strands. This neutral charge actually enables each hair follicle to stand free for extreme hair separation. All this with a plant based neutral pH makes it gentle and nourishing to the hide and hair as it gently cleans deep, down to the roots of each hair follicle. Fortified with Sullivan’s VITA HAIR™ a nourishing vitamin package to boost hair and skin health without added weight to hair. Designed to be used in a foamer.
A true “game changer” in hair performance!
Sullivan’s
Hair Savior Adhesive Breakdown ™
Hair Savior™ is just that! Finally, a liquid adhesive breakdown that is healthy for your leg hair. Hair Savior™ adhesive breakdown features a proprietary blend of the purest, mild cosmetic grade plant-based ester technologies to naturally attack and gently remove adhesives and touch-ups away from the hair. These specific plant based surfactants have been specially identified for their unique ability to naturally counter-act the tackiness of adhesives, changing their rubberized molecular resin structure to gently dissolve the bond from the hair without any harsh stripping action. This properly balanced pH formula prevents heavy, oily residues and will not create heat. Contains the Sullivan’s VITA HAIR™ nourishing vitamin package. Hair Savior™ is the first liquid adhesive breakdown product with added hair vitamins to hydrate and regenerate the hair. Mild and gentle, no harsh chemicals like other removers.
Hair Savior™ ... the showman’s choice for repetitive show schedules and leg hair health!

WE DIDN'T INVENT THE LIVESTOCK MAGAZINE...
...but we took it to places that other livestock magazines hadn't gone before.
W
hen we started The Showtimes Magazine, we wanted to create a magazine that was different from everyone else. One that wasn't just filled from cover to cover with ads, but one that had special features such as flashback, a state fair preview, recipe, tips, and show results. We wanted to make it about the exhibitors and their families. It was important to us to not only mail to subscribers, but to reach the exhibitors at the shows. Instead of just putting out a few boxes, we brought trailers with thousands of free copies. With every issue printed, we strived to improve and make every issue top the issue before it. We thought of exciting new ways to present a magazine from booths at many of the different shows nationwide, to special fold out covers, using metallic inks, and even leading the way by going full color. It was only a few years ago that
seeing a full color junior livestock magazine was unheard of. We changed how our industry printed show results in full color that were laid out clean and crisp on a white background. From there, we had our website designed by a company in Nashville that designs websites for Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith and Eric Church. We thought outside the box to offer a new and exciting look. Following the new website we introduced our iPhone App with show videos and news from The Showtimes! Looking ahead we plan on continuing to improve with each issue. We are busy working on a new redesigned website that will be responsive to your cell phone and tablet that will go online this August! Good luck at the state fairs,
Brian J. Reid Owner/Editor

“Colored cattle aren’t just one consistent color. They have varying light and dark shades. That’s why we worked with chemists to develop Stierwalt ProTouch Touch Up Paints in a variety of realistic colors. It may take a combination of these colors to find the perfect blend, so I recommend practicing at home to find the right blend for your cattle. PRINT MATTERS
I
People prefer print. BY BRIAN J. REID
n today's livestock industry everyone is trying to sell something. Whether it is a show steer out of one of today's top sires, a new trailer, or show supplies, people advertise what they are selling. If you don't advertise or promote your product to your target market, they would not know about what you are selling or how to contact you. When it comes to advertising, there are many options. From a print ad in The Showtimes Magazine, to online banner ads, email blasts, and text message alerts there are many options for you to choose from. According to Johnson Press of America, "Paper remains an indispensible part of business in the web age. In fact, while computers are firmly entrenched as the main
42 THE SHOWTIMES JULY/AUGUST 2013
work tool in most offices, people continue to print out key documents for important meetings and turn to printed sources for reliable information. In addition, many organizations will tell you that their customers respond better to print advertising vs. online messages. In business, paper and electronic media are not incompatible. They are the perfect complement for one another." Advertising in The Showtimes Magazine is a great option and really the best of both worlds. For only $550, you can run a full page color ad in the print edition of The Showtimes. Not only do 10,000 plus issues get read by potential customers, your ad is also available in our online edition that is available for free on our website theshowtimesmagazine.com, as
well as available on your iPhone, iPad and to over 7,750 people on our Facebook page! We've had as many as 8,500 online readers of one issue! So when you advertise in The Showtimes you can have your ad read by as many as 18,500 people. The most unique aspect of advertising in The Showtimes Magazine is the added exposure we provide at all of the shows. In addition to subscribers, we distribute thousands of free copies to exhibitors at shows nationwide. We travel year round distributing our latest issue at shows such as the National Western Stock Show, Ak-Sar-Ben, American Royal, NAILE, Badger Kick-Off Classic, Hoosier Beef Congress, Western Bonanza, Fort Worth Stock Show, as well as numerous Junior Nationals and State Fairs. Other publications may put out a box or

two at some of these shows, but the added benefit of advertising in The Showtimes is we put out pallets of magazines with over 45 boxes per pallet. While subscribers read their magazine when it comes in the mail, or others can check out our latest issue online about one week before it is available in print. The most exposure comes from the shows. We just returned from the Maine, Chi, Shorthorn, Angus, and Hereford Junior Nationals before going to print. The Showtimes had a booth at each of these Junior Nationals, distributing our previous issue. Thousands of exhibitors picked up our Junior National Edition and read it throughout the week. Not only would we see them reading it in the stands or at our booth, but also back at their stalls. It is said that one single issue can be read by as many as five people. Everyone at their stall would read that issue they brought back from our booth. The article featured in Johnson Press of America states; "There is also a notable preference among professionals at every level for reading printed documents compared to online, especially when they are working in a team setting or need to really assimilate information. A study conducted by Harris interactive on behalf of Earthtone revealed that 64 percent of workers prefer ink on paper when it comes to reading. Ironically, the rate was even higher - 70 percent - with employees of
59 percent of senior executives prefer printed versus online information.
77 percent of the people who receive direct mail sort through their mail right away.
technology companies. And why is this? Research has shown that, among other things, many people find hard copies more practical to manage during presentations or group discussions because they are easier to navigate and annotate than electronic documents. What's more, it has been argued that we learn differently from the printed word than a screen, and that we may actually learn better from a book, newspaper or printed report that we do using a computer. Print also continues to be the preferred medium of many consumers. The Doremus/Financial Times study revealed that nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of the executives they polled said they pay more attention to print ads than online ads. No one is suggesting that online document sharing or advertising are not practical and effective business tools. But, it is clear that a strategically placed print ad or a colorful, printed presentation continues to have a strong impact." I know we personally receive hundreds of email blasts every week. Unfortunately, nearly all of them go to our spam folder and are not read. Unless someone is looking forward to a certain upcoming sale, chances are they are not going to consider purchasing a heifer that was advertised in an email
blast. When people do open your email blast the photos are usually small and hard to see. When you advertise with a full page ad, your potential customer can hold your ad in their hand and see a large image of the calf you are selling. Some people think that if they have a website or a Facebook page there is no need to advertise with print media. The benefit of advertising in a magazine like The Showtimes is that people are going to read each issue. Whether it is our January/February Stock Show Edition in Denver or our current July/August State Fair Edition, exhibitors look forward to each issue. They want to see the latest ads, show results, and articles. When they see your ad in The Showtimes they see your contact information and website. Most people are not going to decide to go online and check out your website if they haven't bought from you before. Print advertising is a great way to keep your name in front of people or update them about your upcoming sale the following month. Plus, most people like to keep past issues so they can go back and read their favorite article or see their champion steer featured in our show results. When they do, they see your logo and contact info. Online advertising is tempory, whereas print advertising can be kept for months to years. All in all, print still matters. The Showtimes has continued to grow with each issue from 32 pages to 288 pages. While there are many different forms of advertising, people still prefer print. After all, you just finished reading this article in a magazine. â– JULY/AUGUST 2013 THE SHOWTIMES 43

WORMED IN A SQUEEZE CHUTE Not judging someone's past.
SUBMITTED BY BRAD HENDERSON, CO / BY JAKE HERSHEY
’ve made either all or part of my living with horses for a long time now. Short ones, tall ones, fat ones, skinny ones, broncy ones, dead head ones, horses that are more athletic than an Olympic gymnast and horses that trip over their own feet when they walk. Horses that spook at their own shadow and horses that are “bomb proof.” Horses that are bred and used for ranch work, roping, barrel racing, cutting, track racing, dressage and jumping. Horses that are out of some old nag and an ugly stud who jumped a fence to get her and are used to look

at. God has provided me with a bunch of work over the years either shoeing, trimming, floating, starting or using horses of all kinds. Just like people, horses all have different personalities and quirks about them. Some naturally crave attention and some naturally want to be left alone. Some love their job and look forward to doing it, some don’t really care for their job but show up and do it without complaining and some let it be known that they don’t like to work period. Some are caring, some are mean, some are skittish, some are brave. I have known some outstanding horses owned by idiot people and some idiot horses owned by outstanding people. All of these things make for some pretty good stories. In dealing with lots of horses and lots of people over the years you might think that I had seen it all… and you would be wrong. Those of you who have a lot of experience with horses and people may think that you’ve seen it all too… I doubt you have. For instance, I had a guy call me up awhile ago about starting a colt for him. When he showed up to my place with the colt I noticed it had a little gimp in its step and I asked him about it. He nonchalantly replied, “Yeah, we had to run him over with the pickup to catch him, he’ll be alright.” I bet you’ve never heard of that. But that’s a story for a different time. I was talking to a guy this week about doing a trade. The trade we were
discussing was horse for horse. We didn’t know each other or the horses personally, so we were discussing the ins and outs of both of our horses before we decided if both of us would be interested in the trade. He told me that his horse was raised on a large ranch, how it was bred, what it had done, etc. I told him my horse was pretty “watchy” and asked about his. He said, “The only hole I’ve found in him is he DOES NOT like to be touched around his face.” In my mind, that’s a simple enough fix… some horses just don’t like that and it’s not too hard to get them over it. He then went on to say, “He won’t hurt you, but he DOES NOT like it… and I think I know why. The ranch he was born on ran him through a squeeze chute as a colt to worm him.” Really? REALLY? Just when you and I thought we’d seen it all. He said, “I’m not exactly sure why they did it or what all went on in that squeeze chute, but I think it has something to do with it.” Ya think? Here I am thinking in my own mind that the horse is bad about his head for no good reason. Turns out he’s got a pretty good one. Who knows the trauma that sucker had in his younger years. I wouldn’t just be bad about my head, I’d be a people hatin’ son of a gun. Or scared to death of people for the rest of my life… or both. How many times have you met someone who had a quirk or two about them that just annoyed the crap out of you? How many people do you come across on a daily basis who have traits that annoy the crap out of you? How many times have you been
BIBLE verses
around someone and as soon as they were gone said or thought something like, “I don’t know why they act like that.” Or, “The way they act or responded is ridiculous.” Just like a horse that was run thru a squeeze chute to be wormed as a colt, people have things in their past that we can’t even imagine. Sometimes those things cause them to be man hating and/ or fearing people. Sometimes it causes alcohol or drug abuse, or any number of negative and lingering effects on their lives. But sometimes those people have not let the trauma of their past dictate the rest of their life. Just like that horse, they have turned out to be good suckers, but with a little quirk about them. As Christians, it’s up to us to not judge them based off that quirk or their past experiences. If I end up trading for the head shy horse I plan on getting him over it, by teaching him he can trust me to not hurt him. He doesn’t have to forget the things in his past, but he doesn’t have to let them define him either. He can get over it and live a more rewarding life. People are the same way. If we’ll choose to not judge them based on their little quirks, but instead choose to learn a little something about them before passing judgment… and then let them know that they can trust God, move on and live a more rewarding life, then we’re doin’ what we ought to. I’m off to shoe one and teach him not to be scared of a rope. He’s a horse, not a human… that would be really weird if a human was scared of a rope. ■

it’s HOT! Dry hot in the south or a humid hot in the north, you pick which is worse. I hate em both! Wherever you live you all are trying to keep those cattle cool. It doesn’t matter whether your growing hair or to just trying to keep them on feed, it’s hard to do when it’s hot. Rinsing is great, but when not done correctly it doesn’t help the calf. Rinsing is more than just getting them wet. You must cool their body temperature down and the way to do that is to be sure to rinse their head, belly, between their legs, and their neck with cool or cold water. A lot of times I see a young person get their body wet but the important places that make a different in body temp are not touched. Be sure when you rinse to take your time, spend 10 to 15 minutes or more, let the water run on the calf, giving that body temp time to come down. After rinsing, always be sure to have fans moving air directly on the calf. Even if it’s hot out and the air is hot, it will bring that calf to a comfort level. Coolers are great if you have one and managing a cooler is a whole other topic for some other time but a cooler is good if taken care of properly. I love misters. If I lived in a sandy area I would love them even more. We live in clay soils so we have to watch to not make a mess because it can create a mud hole if left on too long. If there is a way to have cold water running to misters on big volume fans up in a barn, it would be

mind boggling to you how comfortable a barn can stay during hot weather. The same goes for swamp cooler or port-a-cools, the colder the water you get to them, the cooler your barn is. Some use freezers or ice to create that cold water situation. Another thing we do multiple times a day is to just come in and wet the floors, aisles, etc. in the barn to just give a fresh, moist, cool feel to the air. All these ideas are great and you may have others that may work for you. I would love to hear about them. There are two main reasons for all of this. 1. Grow some hair, and 2. Keep the livestock comfortable so they stay on feed. During this time of the year is when I receive the calls from all over that “their calf has gone off feed” and this year is no exception. Go ask the local hangout that serves lunch every day if business doesn’t go down when it gets real hot. People don’t want to eat in the middle of the day when it’s real hot or in the evenings after a hot days work. I know when I come in after a hot day, I don’t feel like eating. I know some of you out there are saying “Guyer don’t ever NOT want to eat”, their probably right. LOL! This is why keeping them comfortable is of the up most importance. When keeping them cool and on a good nutrition diet like ShowRite feed, will always keep you and your calf on track for that end point goal. Remember to have fun at the shows and if you see me there to be sure to say “Hi”. Good luck and enjoy the rest of the summer. ■

howing cattle has always been my brother's and my biggest passion. All those early mornings and late night's led to a lot of dreaming. One of those dreams was to be top 5 at junior nationals. When the judge shook my hand the feeling was truly indescribable. It proved to me that its okay to dream, because you never know when those dreams will become reality. Having my family there created a memory that will last a lifetime. What my older brothers, Jake and Jared, have taught me about the cattle industry will never be forgotten. As my dad always says "rock and roll and live the dream baby!" â–Ş

I
Tom raised the bar when it comes to extension agents. His hard work and tireless dedication to his job and family will not likely be duplicated. knew Tom for 30 years and it would take a book to tell the impact this guy had on not only me, but Adams County 4-H and the state of Colorado. Although Tom’s life on earth seems way too short, he managed to pack a lot into 62 years.
His love for agriculture started on his family’s farm in Ohio. He came to Colorado in 1981 to be the Adams County Extension Agent until 2010. His day usually started at 4:30 a.m. I believe he just couldn’t wait to see what the day would bring him. He loved his job and loved his life. He wasn’t a spectator very often. Although, at our county fair he managed to get the best seat in the house by announcing the sheep show, cattle show, pig show and round robin all while handling the many challenges of running a county fair. At the state fair he was not there to visit. He was involved in the sheep show from weigh-in to sale day and found time to oversee the wool contest too. Even the National Western Stock Show was a place where Tom found an opportunity to stay involved in the industry he
loved by organizing the wool show and helping with the sheep show. I was the Adams County 4-H livestock judging coach for 24 years. The judging team had no bigger supporter than Tom. Every Monday morning after a contest he would call and I would give him the rundown on how all the kids had done. He was always optimistic if we could have done better and excited when we did well. If I needed anything I could call him and he got it done. He went above and beyond for not only the livestock judging team but all the numerous 4-H youth programs. I don’t know if I have ever known a more diverse person. Maybe it was his competitive nature but if Tom did something he did it with passion. He loved racquetball, snow skiing and even went sky diving. He, occasionally, refereed junior high football games and liked to golf with many friends including his church's priest. We went on a cruise with him once and while most of our group was relaxing Tom entered the ping pong contest and was pretty proud of his 2nd place award. Having been an ag and science teacher early in his life he was excited to get back into the classroom. So after retirement he got his substitute teachers license although his health never permitted it. JULY/AUGUST 2013 THE SHOWTIMES 163
Hunting at The Bluffs in Byers, Colorado. Left to Right; Don MacLennan, Tom McBride with sons Tyler and Chase.
Every livestock event, for the last 32 years including 4-H meetings, livestock judging contests, winning the Colorado State Fair, traveling to Louisville, Kentucky for the National 4-H Judging Contest, county weighin, nose printing steers for Denver, Omaha, and Kansas City, Graduation Parties, writing letters of recomendation, early morning phone calls, solving problems (that weren't really problems), answering a multitude of livestock questions, weddings, keeping sheep at our house, our standing jokes of us being "jocks" and our pretending to yawn when he was so excited over wool, going to dinner, the Louisville Slugger Factory, Racquetball, the things we can't talk about, the list goes on and on. Every livestock memory we have, Tom was a part of it. They say you don't know what you have, 'til it's gone. We were fortunate to have Tom in our lives. No one will ever take his place. Adams County, State Fair and Denver will never be the same. Tom, you will never be forgoten. - The Reid Family
164 THE SHOWTIMES JULY/AUGUST 2013
Although it seems impossible, work and hobbies were a very small portion of Tom’s life. Tom and his wife, Mary, have two sons Chase and Tyler. Any conversation with him usually included stories of his boy’s latest achievements. He was a huge part of their successes. Athletics played a big part in their lives and Tom and Mary were there every step of the way. They started following Chase in pee wee t-ball and went on to watch many accomplishments in basketball and track. Watching him return punts for the Colorado Buffaloes was a proud highlight. Chase is a principal and athletic director of a 4A school in Colorado. He and his wife, Chelsea, gave Tom his first grandson in April. Son Tyler’s life was busy with athletics as well. A starting high school quarterback and being named state tournament MVP in baseball were only some of Tyler’s achievements. Tyler was accepted into the Air Force Academy and is now flying F-16’s in defense of our country. Tom instilled his competitive but easy going spirit into both these boys. If you were ever around this family what was instantly evident was the love and most importantly the respect they held for each other. Tom raised the bar when it comes to extension agents. His hard work and tireless dedication to his job and his family will not likely be duplicated. Our loss is Heaven's gain. ▪

breeder spotlight
In today's society, many people downplay the notion of working with their family. Contrary to the belief that it is better to cut family ties in business, the agriculture industry has insight to the fact that the harmony of a family working together can produce a successful and strong business unmatched by anything else. Mid Continent Farms is a fifth generation farm family located in Washington, Kansas. The MCF partnership raises and sells show steers and breeding stock across the United States. The entire operation is a family effort composed of Gregg and Debbie Stewart along with their three boys, Garrett, Brigham, and Tucker; Conrad and Deanna Stewart; and brother, Kent Stewart, with his children Derek and Devon. Each member contributes in their own way to help make MCF the operation it is today. Mid Continent Farms is more than a cattle ranch. With roots dating back to when Gregg and Kent were traveling as members of the Colby Community College and Kansas State University livestock judging teams, they networked with cattle producers across the country during judging practice to get their cattle business started. From A.I. work to purchasing cattle, the Stewarts operation was well under way when Gregg and Kent were only seventeen and nineteen years old. Being centrally located, the name "Mid Continent Chianina" was coined by their Colby Community College teammate Dennis Aherin, but was later changed to Mid Continent Farms as the Stewarts expanded their business to include multiple breeds. MCF received business from coast to coast and from Canada to Central America. Now, over half a century later, Mid Continent 174 THE SHOWTIMES JULY/AUGUST 2013

Farms still offers the quality and service that it was first founded on. For the Stewart family, it is more than just selling cattle; it is supporting their show families with everything from show day preparation to feed management. It is working together as a team to be the best possible. If you are ever in Eastern Kansas or run into one of the Stewarts at a livestock event, it is obvious that there is a passion and dedication to what they do - whether it is in the show ring, promoting a bull in the yards at Denver, working at the ranch, or supporting a customer. Michael J. Fox once said, "Family is not an important thing. It's everything." Mid Continent Farms and the Stewart Family have based their lives on this statement, combined it with the breeding and promotion of cattle, and, as a result, impacted the livestock industry as a whole with their genetics and expertise. â–Ş
A successful cattle operation that was founded on a love for the industry, hard work, and working together as a family. BY: LISA REID &
BRIGHAM STEWART
JULY/AUGUST 2013 THE SHOWTIMES 175
Debbie Stewart is the grease that keeps MCF running. She handles all of the bookwork and toughest jobs including registrations, accounting, paperwork and keeping the boys in line. People that know her will confirm that the ranch would not be here today without her. When she is not working, she loves watching the Voice, hanging out with her family, and is an excellent cook. Gregg Stewart is the backbone to the operation, major decision maker, handles all the business transactions, and is an integral part of getting stuff done and making the business grow and continue to get better. He devotes his everything to continuing the farm. He enjoys going to shows, especially DENVER, to relax. He also likes to attend Country Stampede in Manhattan. Gregg now handles all of the farming as his dad is slowly getting out of it. He thinks he will be turning the cattle over to the rest of the family, but they will not let him off the hook that easily!
Garrett owns and operates a Vet Clinic in Washington, Kansas and helps out on the farm when he can after hours. He is the guy to call when we have something wrong that Brigham cannot fix with the cattle. Garrett is a new home owner so his hobby is working on his landscape. I swear he needs to own a few hundred acres of land, because if he did he wouldn't spend nearly that much time making his yard look so nice. Garrett has already utilized his veterinarian skills on the farm by helping pregnancy check cattle, giving input on herd health practices, and transferring almost 50 embryos in the spring. With him now owning a business it is hard for him to be here all the time; but he does help out when he is not busy
I (Brigham) enjoy judging shows, going to cattle shows, and just hanging out with the cattle. No particular hobby besides cattle shows and going to movies with the old man. I have been home for five years now and there is not much that happens around the farm that I do not know about. I know the cattle, make a lot of the breeding decisions as well as my dad, and spend most of my time out with the cattle. There is not much that happens on the farm that I cannot handle or know about. A few years ago everyone only called my dad about the cattle, and in the recent few years, I have received 90% of the calls. So when you see me at a show and I do not notice you, please say hello. I spend all day talking; and if I do that at the shows to everyone I know or see then I will never get anything done. Tucker is in his third year of law school and currently comes home every weekend to help with chores. With his expertise in law, he now writes or helps write our contracts, and reads any that we may need him too. Tucker is the one everyone likes and is one of the faces at cattle shows to help our customers. He has too many hobbies to list but loves talking about politics and laws. Everyone always asks, "Where's tucker?" He won our steer and heifer show at the Kansas State Fair in the same year - which has never happened again until this year by the Schaake family. He has also exhibited the Grand Champion Steer at Angus Junior Nationals. Grandma Deanna and her husband Keith Balthezor help out with hand chores daily and own all the equipment we use to spray pasture.
Conrad is recently retired. Now he just drives around and makes sure cattle stay in, the crops are growing, and hunters are not trespassing without permission.
We just recently moved our entire fall and summer calving herd to Texas. Kent Stewart is handling those cattle alongside his son Derek. After my dad, Gregg, tore his ACL last summer pairing out cows on a four wheeler, Kent has been coming up a lot from Texas during busy or stressful times to help out with decisions and the day-to-day operation outside on the farm. Kent's family always talks about going to all the county fairs and Major shows in Texas. And on a yearly basis they talk about going on a River Float down there. Derek works alongside his dad in Texas but he also loves to steer wrestle, and is sitting in the top end of the PRCA standings. He is recently engaged to Miranda Coats - whose family owns and operates Coats Saddlery. We hope to see him at the NFR someday. With the transfer of our fall herd to Texas, Kent and Derek will be the main part behind that venture as they know the territory. We feel this is a great move for MCF. With us being so busy with fall harvest, weaning, and sales before, we were unable to maximize the production of our fall herd. It is an awesome set of cows and we were just a little too far north to get the cattle out there.
Devon is a recent graduate of Kansas State University with an Ag Communications major and has been helping around the farm since graduation with bookwork and traveling the country interviewing for jobs. She is excited to be starting as Director of Youth Activities for the American Maine-Anjou Association in Platte City, Missouri. When Devon is not working, she loves hanging out with her girlfriends and she is another one whom you see a lot of at the shows.
"We register Maine-Anjou, Shorthorn, Charolais, Simmental, Angus, and Chianina, plus a handful of Herefords. MCF owns 1,500 head of cattle representing various composites of the breeds and farms 1,500 acres of tillable ground. Our focus is on cattle but farming is in our blood. We have always taken a practical approach to raising show steers. We are a little more mainstream than the show industry! We utilize Embryo Transfer to raise most of our show steers, but with the flip of a switch and use of a different sire, those same donors will produce our outstanding females and show heifers. We focus on the main cow herd to continue bettering our genetic base and producing good cattle and have always been a go to place to find the kind of females that are easily mated to the bulls of today. If you come to our sale there may be a few sires that you have not heard of but within a couple years those are the females that raise our cattle.
MCF partner Rick Seehase with Dog the Bounty Hunter in Denver 2013 sporting the MCF hat.
We have recently moved our entire Angus herd (250 + cows) from Western Nebraska to Washington; and that was quite an undertaking. This move will allow us to focus a little more on that side of our business and be able to make better breeding decisions because we are more involved with them. They are still owned with Ron Jones of Benkelman, Nebraska and we will continue to have our bull sale there. He will grow the cattle and get the heifers up to breeding age from this time on and we will calve and handle the breeding and marketing. We have a lineup of bulls from the past and now that make our Angus herd cutting edge and a perfect outcross to most of the Angus cattle out there including: OCC Doctor, Hot Rod, JSAR Rodman, Journey, JSAR Titan, and Opportunity. You will no doubt see more from these great sires in the future of our operation. We have been in the hunt or won nearly every major show in America in the last 20 odd years and have a lineup of cattle that will be for sale this fall that proves we are still in the game and strive to produce high quality cattle. We can't wait to preview them to you this fall." -Brigham Stewart

No more excuses that you can’t get your calf to eat or you can’t get them fat enough!
A HUGE majority of the champions today are using this product so don’t get left behind, order yours today! “GLUCoat is the fat covering feed additive that has proven to us to be top of the line. It keeps them on feed, lays on smooth fat cover and gives them a shiny, healthy hair coat. The results we have seen with this product are second to none.” - John Sullivan, Sullivan Farms & Sullivan Supply
NOW Why is GLU-Coat Different? • GLU-Coat is not a fat product such as vegetable oil that when fed with today’s show feeds will slow down rumen activity. • GLU-Coat is a sugar product which speeds up rumen activity. You will never use a fat product again! GLU-Coat is a one of a kind all new product that is formulated with a high unique blend of sugars which can increase appetite and palatability. This unique blend of sugars keep the rumen working longer and faster than just a single source of glucose such as cane molasses. Due to the activity in the rumen there is less waste and with less waste the cattle’s stools should be more controllable. It has been shown to dramatically enhance fat cover and change the eating habits of your animal as well as increase feed efficiency and average daily gain. • For a minimal cost you get the best of two worlds - GLU-Coat and Cellrate. GLU-Coat has the Cellarator technology as it contains the active ingredient Cell-rate, which aids in the process of cellular replication, supports the animals immune system, helps animals get through stressful periods and aids in muscle and fat development. With the Cellarator technology your calf will feel better, act better and their eating habits will change. • A refined flavored fish oil is also formulated in GLU-Coat because it contains the highest levels of Omega 3 Fatty Acids which helps maintain a bright shiny hair coat. • GLU-Coat can also increase glucose levels which is stored in the body as fat, giving livestock that bloomier, fuller, softer look that is demanded in the show ring today. • GLU-Coat being molasses based and sweet to the taste, cattle love it.
Cattle GLU-Coat is a unique product to replace any oil or fat that you might be using. When a calf is behind in weight, not eating good, not fat enough, etc. the first thing a person does or thinks of is to ‘ADD FAT.’ Studies show that feed intake and feed efficiency go down when a feed reaches 6% fat content. So as a family putting fat or oils into a show feed of today it will normally sail over that 6% mark. In return, you are defeating the purpose of adding fat and may have a negative effect on weight gain, feed intake, and feed efficiency. When too much oil or fat is used, it will coat the rumen and the feed particles in the rumen which will slow down the digestion of the nutrients. Excess fat or oil can also create loose stools.

weighing in to win
WHAT SHOULD MY STEER WEIGH? Each year exhibitors work everyday feeding and managing their calf's weight. So, what should your market steer weigh to win your state fair? While every judge has a slightly different "ideal weight" for their champion, we share with you what weight has worked for the Champion Steer at the Colorado State Fair over the past 12 years! In addition to hitting your target weight this summer, don't forget to account for a weigh back. The Colorado State Fair has a weigh back rule of 5%. Steer's must weigh at least 1,000 lbs. to show, and heifers must weigh 950 lbs. to show. Always know how much your steer can weigh when he shows to make sure you are within the 5% of your weigh back.

MABREY CHAM With a background in the livestock industry, this Indiana show mom shares insight to her choice to raise her daughters in the livestock industry. BY: MABREY CHAMBERLIN, IN
show mom
MBERLIN
Hello, my name is Mabrey Chamberlin. I have never written an article in any livestock publication, nor have I ever been asked to do so. So, when Lisa asked me to write this I was very nervous, but honored. Why me? Why about being a show mom? Do I really have an important role in my daughters’ success? I thought for many hours about what I do in this role and why it might be important. I thought back about how I grew up showing and at what level. I grew up on a farm in Winchester, Indiana. I have one sister, Dru Goettemoeller; our parents are Gary and Chris Stewart. We had Hereford cows growing up, so I started showing Herefords when I was very young. I also showed sheep and pigs in 4H and at local open shows. We never really did very much winning that I can remember. I loved showmanship because it did not take a great animal to do well. The highlight of my showing career was champion Hereford steer at the Indiana State Fair my first year in 4H. I never had another state champion after that and never had a national champion. I won at the county level a few times, but to say that I traveled around successfully showing, I really cannot. I can say that I loved doing it! I met a lot of friends and have so many great memories. In fact, I met my husband Clark at an open sheep show about 30 minutes from my house. Showing was the way my family spent family vacation time and our entire summer. We worked on 4H animals, life revolved around chores. My own mom was very involved at the barn and with the livestock. This mentality has continued. Now, my daughters Becca and Maci have been showing cattle and sheep all over the United States. I will say, they have been more successful in their first few years of showing than I was in all of my years combined. The girls

have had national champions and reserves, many open show grand champions, state grand champion and multiple state breed champions in sheep and heifers. One thing is the same, they have an equal love for the industry that I had and still have. Our competitive spirit keeps us working and the friendships that we develop make it a blast! I am very proud of them and their successes. I feel like the success that they have accomplished is due to an entire family effort, Brian, Dru (my sister), and Spencer Goettemoeller, my parents, and my husband along with many family friends. Our families are livestock people. We all grew up understanding the responsibility and dedication that it takes. I graduated from Purdue University in 1999 with my nursing degree. I graduated with my Master’s degree in 2008 from University of Cincinnati. I am a Nurse Midwife, I deliver babies. My work hours are crazy and sometimes quite long and unpredictable. There are days that I am at the hospital longer than I am at home. When I am home the girls, Clark and I are working with the

livestock. When I take vacation time, it is usually for livestock shows. I am probably best known as Becca and Maci Chamberlin’s mom around the show ring; and I am OK with that. My role seems quite small when compared to the boys that get the heifers ready at the shows and my husband who does most of the feeding and barn work at home. I am the “show mom” who breaks the heifers and sheep so that a 12 and 8 year old can show them. I am the mom who allows her lawn to be rutted up all year around for a practice show ring so the animals are ready to show when the season starts. I work with the girls on showmanship at home through tears and raised voices. The girls and I discuss winning and losing, I am the counselor. I am the mom who goes to the barn after long hours at the office even though I do not really have the time. I wash heifers in the freezing cold because everyone else is busy getting others ready. I blow heifers for hours and hours. I help pack the trailer and the suitcases, I iron the clothes and fix the hair. I break the heifers down and wash the
sheep out after the show. I guess what I do is what no one else wants to do or does not have time to do. So, that is what this “show mom” does. And why, I sometimes ask myself, why do we show livestock? It can be expensive, it certainly takes a lot of time, and it can cause a significant amount of frustration. We do it because it is a great life for the girls. It teaches patience and hard work. It is a great way to meet people, lifelong friends. It is helping to develop them into mature girls that are able to interact with adults as well as other kids their age. It opens up topics for conversation that lead to making them moral young people. As their show mom, it is not all about the physical work that I do, but also about the emotional support that I give the girls along the way. ▪

behind the product
VITA HAIR VOLUMIZER The concept behind Vita Hair Volumizer Foaming Shampoo. TM
BY JOHN SULLIVAN & SCOTT KINZER
T
he creation and development process for Vita Hair VolumizerTM shampoo dates back to early 2010. Our goal was to create a superior quality livestock shampoo to use in a foamer that could nourish the hide and hair, clean thoroughly, be economical, and yet not destroy the hair body. A tough task, especially since the existing human and livestock shampoo chemistry makes the hair more manageable causing it to lay “heavy and flat, never to stand on end creating hair volume as we desire in show cattle. On the other hand, dish washing soaps strip the hair of the natural oils and cause damage to the outer layer of the hair follicle, destroying hours of work. We feel that high quality shampoo is the most important step of daily hide and hair care leading to the best hair performance on show day. We began by formulating VolumizerTM with a natural
186 THE SHOWTIMES JULY/AUGUST 2013
plant-based surfactant blend originating from fruit and vegetable extracts. We found this technology to be pH neutral and nourishing to the hide and hair, along with being gentle as it cleaned deep to the roots of the hair. We then discovered a tremendous breakthrough fact; the chemical make-up of all surfactants consists of “Ions”. Ions are small electrical molecules in the surfactant that pass on a positive or a negative charge to the hair. These “Ions” cause the hair follicles to attract to each other like a magnet attaching to metal. As a result, this causes the hair to stick to each other and lay flat, even after blow drying. We chemically altered the ionic basis of the formula by incorporating an opposite acting polar charge, creating a “neutral” charge. This, never before offered, non-ionic chemistry for livestock, prevents any attraction between the hair strands. This neutral charge actually enables each hair follicle to stand on end for extreme hair separation creating a noticeable difference in added hair volume and body. The ultimate goal for livestock hair! By January of 2012 we had perfected the formula, but before bringing it to the public, we wanted to put it through rigorous daily testing at Sullivan Farms over the next 18 months. It proved to be a difference maker for the cattle of Sullivan Farms at the 2013 National Shorthorn Jr. Heifer Show as their cattle had the healthiest hide and hair of any previous year that
they had exhibited at that show. As an added benefit, Vita Hair VolumizerTM is also enriched with the VITA HAIRTM nourishing hair vitamin package. The nutrient content of VITA HAIRTM, consists of an advanced blend of the proven hair vitamins: Biotin, Pro-Vitamin B-5 and Vitamin E, all in their purest form to infuse the hair and skin for Faster Hair Growth, Thicker Hair, Increased Shine, More Body & Volume and Healthier Skin. The most important added benefit for show cattle from the VITA HAIRTM vitamins is how they nourish and condition without weight and build-up on the hair as compared to human conditioners that cause the hair to lay flat.

IOWA STATE FAIR NOTHING COMPARES August 8-18, 2013 Des Moines, IA Congratulations to the Iowa State Fair on being voted the Best State Fair in our Facebook contest held earlier this summer! The first Iowa State Fair was held October 25-27, 1854 in Fairfield, twenty years before America's great westward movement began. The fair moved to its present site at East 30th and East University in Des Moines in 1886 making it 127 years old this year! The 2013 Iowa State Fair is looking to be another great year for the fair! There are big concerts such as Toby Keith and Alan Jackson, as well as one of the country's best livestock shows! Be sure to look for show results from the Iowa State Fair in our next issue!

DIAMOND JACK'S There is a treasure located across from the cattle show ring at the Iowa State Fair by the name of Diamond Jacks. From the State Fair to Junior Nationals being hosted on the fairgrounds, individuals can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner at this unique family owned restaurant. Family is a large aspect of Diamond Jacks. Originally owned by Jack and Patsy Benoit, it was handed down to Lance and Tami Benoit when Patsy (the heart and soul of the place) passed away from cancer in 2006.

The Fair Story Jack and Patsy had a drive-in in Winterset, Iowa – with servers on skates – and a country store. Jack always worked as a buyer for sporting goods and then he moved into sales. In 1960, they gave birth to their son Lance who had his first fair in a little red wagon. His parents started with the toy stand at the State Fair and then built a snow cone stand. Stands then are what we call stick joints, because they had no wheels. Then in 1969, Jack and Patsy built their first permanent build-

ing “Master Jacks” which later burnt down and is now replaced with food trailers, tents, and margarita bars which Lance’s sister Tricia runs. In 1971, the family built their second permanent building, Diamond Jacks, with a country theme. The building is awesome and built for fun. They are opened for cattle shows, horse shows, private parties, World Pork Expo, Good Guys Car Show, and of course the Iowa State Fair. Both of Lance and Tami’s children, Chelsey and and Chance, work for the business. Chelsey is a special education teacher in Ankeny, Iowa, and Chance is currently a student at Iowa State University. Both of their schedules work for the fairs. They are third generation. Chance actually had his own shows this year. Lance had the first funnel cake stick stand at the Iowa State Fair when he was seventeen years old. He had seen the funnel cake idea in Chicago at a restaurant
show. He took the idea back to Iowa where he started frying them in iron skillets on 4 gas burners. Now the industry actually makes shallow electric fryers. Lance and Tami met when he was in the 8th grade and she was in the 7th. While Lance attended Columbia College, Tami went to Arizona State and finished out at Drake University. They have been married for 31 years. Five years after being married, Lance and Tami convinced their banker to loan them $18,000 to buy their first used Waymatic concessions trailer – Tenderloins Curly Fries. It was one of the first trailers on the fairgrounds. Currently they have five concession trailers. So next time you are at the Iowa State Fair Grounds and walk up to the counter at Diamond Jacks, sense the history and passion that are incorporated into the business and enjoy the food and atmosphere!

MISSOURI STATE FAIR CHICKS DIG IT! August 8-18, 2013 Sedalia, MO
Since the first Fair in 1901, thousands of Missouri families have made the annual “pilgrimage” to Sedalia. Despite numerous differences, the Fair exhibitors of 1901 and today share an important common element. That common denominator is competition – the desire to put your efforts against your neighbor’s best. Since the first State Fair, the reward has been ribbons, premium money and recognition. But the long-term effect of this healthy competition has been a steady improvement in Missouri’s agriculture, agribusiness, domestic arts and, today, even fine arts. From 1901 to today, the Missouri State Fair has been a barometer of the state’s economic health and a documentary of the history of Missouri agriculture. The Missouri State Fair plays an essential role in keeping agriculture one of Missouri’s top industries.

FUN FACTS On average, 500,000 corn dogs are typically consumed by fair visitors each year! --Before the Minnesota State Fair moved into the location, the fairgrounds was the Ramsey County Poor Farm. --Ye Old Mill is the oldest ride on the fairgrounds built in 1913!
After four years of territorial fairs, the first Minnesota State Fair was held in 1859 near what became downtown Minneapolis. This was a year after Minnesota was granted statehood. During the fair's early years, the site of the exposition changed annually with stops in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Red Wing, Winona and Owatonna. In the 1870s and early 1880s, civic groups from both St. Paul and Minneapolis worked relentlessly to provide a permanent home for the fair in their respective cities. In 1885, the Minnesota State Fair finally found a permanent home at its present location, midway between Minneapolis and St. Paul when the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners donated their 210-acre poor farm to the State Agricultural Society, the governing body of the State Fair. Secure in its new surroundings, the Minnesota State Fair began to grow. Physically,
the fairgrounds blossomed to 320 acres. Architecturally, it is home to many historically-significant structures including the Arts Center, Progress Center, Grandstand and Coliseum (formerly known as the Hippodrome). An important change in the State Fair over the years has been in the attractions offered to fair visitors. The character of early fairs was dominated by agricultural exhibits and competitions, reflecting its original purpose of encouraging farming in the state. Since its inception, the fair has been held every year with only five exceptions: in 1861 and 1862 due to the Civil War and Dakota Indian Conflict, in 1893 because of scheduling conflicts with the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, in 1945 due to war-time fuel shortages, and in 1946 due to a polio epidemic.

RON & BECKY THOMPSON showsteers.com

hey didn’t set out to revolutionize the club calf industry, but according to some of their best supporters, that is exactly what Ron and Becky Thompson of Whitesboro, Texas, did when they started Showsteers.com. Ron and Becky both started out with ranching experience. Ron, growing up near Wessington Springs, South Dakota, surrounded by good grass and good cattle; Becky was raised on the Grand River Ranch in northwestern, SD. They both participated in showing cattle, horses and rodeo through 4-H, high school and state associations. As they grew up, they learned about sound, performance-based cattle and

horses. Ron and Becky both developed an “eye” for the good ones, whether it was livestock or what they invisioned for the promotion of their own cattle. Prior to the creation of Showsteers, Becky had been involved in the tourism industry as well as the development and promotion of several businesses and organizations including the South Dakota Rodeo Association and her own flower shop. She continued to develop an eye for design and the best ways to creatively position businesses or organizations. Ron brought another important skill set to the table. He is a quick learner, and when he commits to learning a craft, he dives in. When they decided that a website was the next best way to promote their club calves, Ron read all of the manuals available on web development and tested them out on the computer. He showed Becky the basics, and from there they were able to build a solid foundation for what would eventually become the first website for show cattle. Do you remember when there was advertising that didn’t have www in it? When Showsteers.com was officially launched in 1998 it was seldom heard of or seen. With the start of Showsteers.com the club calf industry quickly became accustomed to it!
Bobby May was a buyer of Thompson Show Steers' calves and became aware of Ron and Becky’s venture into marketing on the World Wide Web. He asked them to create a web site for his business and that’s when Showsteers.com became the First Club Calf Directory. By 1999, they had grown to 100 customers and today have over 1000 club calf producers, promoters and show- related industries listed on their website. Showsteers.com continues to be the most visited web site of its kind and their customers benefit from the thousands of daily visitors. “We’ve always tried to provide an affordable and useful website to help others promote their club calf businesses,” Becky says. “And we’ve worked hard at being on the leading edge of technology.” Showsteers was one of the first sites to utilize social media in the form of a boardroom. “It was a place where people could post questions and get answers. It wasn’t in real time like social media is today with Facebook, Twitter, and Blogs, but it was a way for people in the club calf industry to connect and talk about pertinent issues,” Ron adds. Ron and Becky have added team members to Showsteers who blog on the website. “We have some great young people who are becoming leaders in our indusJULY/AUGUST 2013 THE SHOWTIMES 237

try, and they have a voice on Showsteers.com. They talk about shows, sales, and the things that are on their minds. It gives Showsteers a unique voice and an appeal to young exhibitors and their parents,” Thompsons say. Keeping with the theme of advancing technology, they have recently developed an App for Showsteers.com that you will find very soon in the Apple Store. You’ll be able to locate club calf producers in a specific area on a Showsteers map App. It may now be accessed by going to www.showsteersmap.com. You might be wondering how Ron and Becky ended up in Texas when their ties and roots seem to be so deep in South Dakota. According to Becky, “Ron had always had a passion for horses and had a reining horse project going in Wessington Springs. We made a special trip to the Whitesboro area because that’s where most of the reining horse people were. We drove by a small ranch (compared to South Dakota) that had many of the things we wanted in a horse place, and it didn’t take long for us to decide to take Showsteers and Ron’s reining to the next level. Ron’s youngest son Chad was in a position to come back to the ranch and maintain and further develop the Thompson Show Steers herd."
Ron’s training program for reining horses has become very successful. He was ranked #4 Non-Pro Rider in the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) for 2012. Ron has been the leading seller of two-year-old reining horses on the prospect sale at the National Futurity for the past eight years. Ron continues to use the same attention to detail and promotion he learned in the club calf business to become a success with his reining horses. Showsteers has also continued to evolve. The site has been redesigned several times and it brings a fresh new look always keeping ease and use-ability in mind. There are new features added to the site quite frequently. Becky and Dianna Elder, who works remotely from Pella, Iowa as a web designer, keep a close eye on what’s new on the web and what could be the next big thing for Showsteers. Becky feels customer service, attention to detail, and completing web site updates in a timely manner is what sets Showsteers apart. The Thompsons say that Showsteers.com has been an unforgettable experience. They are thankful to everyone who has helped make it what it is today. Becky says the business continues to grow, and they couldn't have done it without their clients—people who they see as friends. ■
Since that time, Showsteers has expanded tenfold and

"Showing cattle is not always about winning another banner, but rather learning about how hard work and commitment can help you acvhieve your goals all while enjoying a hobby that brings family and friends together." BY: AUSTIN (AJ) LINE, IL
As the audience stood with the raise of the judges hand over my steer, Holyfield, my heart stopped as the endless hours of work had paid off and my biggest livestock showing dream came true. Winning the Illinois State Fair in 2012 has been the highlight of my showing career up until now, but as my showing career continues, new goals form and the hard work and commitment continues with the hopes of learning more lessons and hopefully holding another banner. All of my life I have lived on the fami270 THE SHOWTIMES JULY/AUGUST 2013
ly farm near Seaton, Illinois, with my parents Todd and Joyce Line, and two younger siblings Dalton and Payton. My family’s life has always revolved around us kids’ extracurricular activities, especially showing cattle. My dad got me involved in showing livestock at the age of five. I started out showing cattle that we had raised at the surrounding county fairs, but as my involvement increased, I began to
develop a passion towards raising and showing cattle. I did not win my first cattle show until I was about ten years old with a black and white steer in which I purchased from Todd Caldwell. As time went on I began to find success at the prospect and fat steer shows on the regional and national levels. Some of the steer shows I have won over the past 7 years include the Illinois Beef Expo, Kentucky Beef Expo, Ohio AGR, Nebraska AGR, and the Illinois State Fair. Showing cattle is not always about winning another banner, but rather learning about how hard work and commitment can help you achieve your goals all while enjoying a hobby that brings family and friends closer to-
gether. In July of 2011, my brother, Dalton, was in an agriculture related accident, which caused him to lose part of his foot. I soon realized how fast things in life could change. Following the accident, he was unable to show cattle or participate in other activities until he was all healed up and could walk on his foot. I ended up showing his steer for him at the Illinois State Fair that year while he was still in the hospital, but not having the whole family at the fair made things less enjoyable. As I grow older, balancing my time and effort between school, sports, and cattle proves to be a difficult task. Normally, I get up early in the morning to get calves
in and rinsed, followed by either school or sports, and then come home and put cattle back out late in the night. Being busy all the time is sometimes overwhelming, but now that I am 17 years old, I realize the important lessons that showing cattle has taught me. Upon graduation of high school, I plan on attending a two-year college and studying ag business while participating in livestock judging, and then transferring to a four-year university. In the future I hope to someday take over the family farm and continue raising livestock and show calves while also helping others learn about and become involved in the cattle industry. â–Ş
A MUCH NEEDED THANKS
I know the list of people who have helped me during my livestock showing career is endless, but I would like to give a few thanks. First off, thank you to my family for getting me involved in showing cattle and giving me the opportunity to continue showing and find success in doing so. Second, I would like to thank all of the people who help me prepare my steers throughout the year and on show day including: my dad Todd Line, Jason Roeder, Todd Caldwell, Brandon Jones, Brett Bowman and all of the people who help them. Finally, thank you to everyone else in the cattle industry, who make raising and showing livestock an enjoyable hobby. As each showing season passes, more friends are made, and thank you’s required, so to anyone who has ever helped me in any way, Thank you.
