Welcome to the third instalment of the Shred Limited print price guide. Three years ago our small Plymouth based creative agency started offering a range of quality design and print services, back then we only had around a dozen clients, but they were all really happy with our service. We now have many more clients, we have achieved this by always working that bit harder to keep our clients happy and deliver a decent service - even when the office has been attacked by a killer dose of the man-flu or the bakery has run out of our favourite pasties. For 2011 we’ve added a few new products to our line up. We are not big on ‘promotional gifts’ but with so many clients asking us for mugs and pens it seemed insane not to add them into our line up. Our range of print also expands in both the type of products but also the level of quality and further improved turnaround times. Don’t forget this brochure is only an overview of what we offer and there are literally thousands of options that we can give you quotes for, or we can design you a bespoke marketing package. Shred Limited has always worked on the simple values of being honest, reliable and creative. These three principles are not particularly complicated but have stood us in good stead as we strive to reach our goal of becoming Plymouth’s best creative agency. Our next day printing service is a life saver...Well that isn’t totally true but it can certainly ease the strain on your blood pressure when the deadline axe is hanging over your head. Never forget to introduce people to each other, preferably at a gathering with name tags (and free food is also good).

At Shred we love newsletters. They are a little ‘retro’ in an age where everyone sends out emails and points you to their website but if you want to win new business then a newsletter is still a mighty force. Sitting on the toilet at 10am, eating sandwiches at 12, afternoon coffee break at 2pm - the newsletter survives on your client’s desk for at least a day - when the email went straight into junk mail at 12am!

Stitched up like a kipper... Like every decent, hardworking, honest business from time to time we get seen off. A ‘successful entrepreneur’ from Exeter, decided to launch a new business and thought he’d use Shred cash flow to finance it before vanishing off the face of the earth a few months later. Rather than letting our blood boil over or spending the rest of our days dwelling on it, we thought we’d take the lessons learned and share them with you, hopefully we can spare you some or our pain. 1. Don’t attempt to do business with Mr Adam Neil Reece from Exeter, he may drive a new E-class but he will never pay you. 2. Always limit your credit allowance. If you are a small business then the limit needs to be at least the amount of cash you can quickly get your hands on if you need to bail out your business. 3. Always find out who actually owns a business, the manager may be the straightest guy on the planet but he may be getting stitched up too. 4. Do a company search if they are a limited company and also do a director’s search if it says ‘notice to strike-off’ or multiple limited companies in the same business name warning bells should ring. 5. Always get a home address and, if you can, get a personal guarantee into the deal if you are extending large credit terms 6. If you have even the slightest bad feeling about it then insure the debt, even large debts can be insured with specialist companies. 7. If you do get stitched up then repair your cash flow immediately, however much you have lost (at your cost) plus the VAT on the total invoice needs to be back into your business, don’t wait until 120 days to decide you are not getting your cash, this could be too late. 8. Don’t dwell on it, life’s too short and business, if done well, is mostly good but unfortunately and inevitably sometimes bad.

Whilst Shred loves doing business with Plymouth companies we also do work for companies outside of our patch. We all love Plymouth so everything we can bring into the city both financially and growing the city’s reputation of being good for business, makes us proud. Our longest distance customer is Ibex Sports in New Hampshire, USA but we also have a few clients in mainland Europe. Probably the best achievement are the clients from the London area, it just shows you don’t need to be in the ‘Design Capital’ to do good design.

Shred Racing is Shred’s Cycling Team. This band of green and black clad racers travel the region and the rest of the
UK in search of both great riding and some decent race
results. The team boasts James Birch and Brendan Murphy
(top 10 finishers in the National Mountain Bike Series)
and local time trial ace Garry Pike. For 2011 Shred Racing
will be working with The National Trust to help encourage more people onto bikes and show that you can have a great time racing bikes (and hopefully bag a few trophies).

In the summer of 2010 Shred organised and hosted the first Shred Classic covering a 1km course around the historic and very, very, very wet Plymouth Hoe. Riders from across the country braved the weather and battled it out to become the first ever winner of this now infamous race. We couldn’t have done this without the support from some of our clients so a big thank you to all involved. Keep an eye out online for details of race number two in 2011.

THE ENVIRONMENT Going on about how your business is good to the environment is kind of like boasting about how you are kind to your kids. Being good to the environment and not pooing on your own patch should go without saying. That said, we do have a ‘policy’ on being kind to the planet, here’s how it breaks down.... We use good quality materials, always FSC approved at a minimum. We try to design stuff to look better for longer so it doesn’t get binned. We try our best to use local suppliers to keep the number of road miles down and put money back into the region. Our digital print is pretty good as it keeps waste down, uses less power, and can be recycled ok. It’s not perfect but it is best of the bunch. Our litho print uses vegetable inks and whilst the factories do use a load of power they do also churn out a load of print. Using our agency service also means we share print space with other companies reducing the net impact on the environment. We try to reduce the amount of driving about to keep ourselves off the roads (unless we are on our bikes). We try to recycle all of our waste which includes plastics, milk bottles, paper, cards and we don’t send Christmas cards either. We work hard to encourage people to ride bikes and just use their cars for fun stuff like track days or going to fox hunts.
None of our design or print is tested on animals.
We are not sign makers, we don’t sell lots of flashy neon signs or clamber up the front of large buildings to install them. We do however work closely with a local sign maker to deliver some simple and cost effective options on signs that we felt worthy to include in our brochure and these can be fitted locally or shipped out nationwide. Signs are no longer ‘hand painted’ which is kind of a shame but at the same time if you want a sign that looks like that we can probably design one for you. Within two minutes of a visit to Shred HQ you’ll see pretty quickly that we are into bikes. Some of us race bikes, some just ride bikes to work but either way there is a definite bike based undertone to Shred. That is not to say we are car-hater types, we just like having fun on bikes. The most common questions we get asked about bikes.. 1. Do you know anyone that is selling a second hand bike? Actually the answer is usually No, decent second hand bikes are a pretty rare commodity at the moment but that is ok as bikes aren’t really too expensive. Certini, The Bike Cellar, Plymouth Cycle Scene - these are all good bike shops in the Plymouth area that will fix you up with a new ride at a decent price (you can tell them we sent you). 2. What is the best bike for leisure use? Any bike is good for leisure use, personally we like fast racing bikes or fat tyred mountain bikes but a firm favourite around Shred HQ is the Gocycle electric bike as it is a fantastic piece of design and super easy for anyone to ride (well, anyone with £1700 spare that is). 3. Are there any cycling clubs around Plymouth? There are three clubs in Plymouth, St Budeaux CC and Plymouth Corinthians are the two oldest clubs in the city, the Yogi club is the newest and largest club with over 200 members and a really active scene. Check out www.yogi.terapad.com. 4. Where is good to go riding? Plym Valley is like a mecca for bike riders in Plymouth, it is the expressway to the moors and there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy both the scenery and a few beers on the way. Start from Marsh Mills and just keep pedaling. In the summer you can hire a bike from Plymbridge woods if you don’t have your own.

Payment We like to be paid. Account customers are awarded 30 days credit, new clients will be required to pay the full balance on delivery / collection.
