PROPOSED INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE
Dilli Haat INA: International Convention Centre
Total Area: 480 sq.m (approx) Extend by upto 50 sq.m Functionality: 1) Office: 10 employees 2) Fine Dinig Restaurant 3)Lounge/ Lobby 4) HHEC Award Winning Craft Shop 5) Multi- Purpose Hall: Seminar, Exhibition & Conference
CHARACTER OF THE SITE: Being an exposed brick structure It has raw look to it which compliments the surroundings, it being in Dilli Haat. Theres a lot of play of natural light within this building. Its location is pretty strategised, as its just beside the main stage and on the other side theres a secondary entry along with a parking lot. These factors, make the building q uite accessible.
ORIENTATION:
KEY CONCEPT: My key concept is Universality V.S. Identity and ive responded to this concept through my consistent way of playing with volume. Ive used different materials but the way its planned is on the same line. There is a sense of corbelling which ive derived through the structural material (Brick) used in the building. The concept of corbelling, derived from brick masonry has been applied in the interior of this exposed brick structure. The ceiing is treated in such a way that it gives a dynamic look and experience to the space.
Proximity of areas to each other depending on their functionality as well as their interaction with public. SITE PLAN- Dilli Haat INA, New Delhi
RESPONSE: Ive tried to place the functions according to the site’s approach and its degree of of being a public space. E g: The craft shop is placed at the frnnt corner, right next to the entry so that it gets the maximum attention from the outside via its display window. Also, one of my major key concepts which ive retained from the existing site is natural light. There are a number of windows, and skylights keeping in mind the orientation of the sun. Louvers are also provided so that the light could be controlled when required and doesnt hinder the dynamic nature of the spaces inside. Circulation is kept Linear, keeping in mind easy public movement. Thus, the courtyard is treated as a transition space with a walkway connecting thereception and the lobby. A removable shed is provided which could be used during monsoon which facilitates movement of people during rains.

2. BAMBOO COLUMNS FORM
THE CEILING IN MPH: Bamboo columns, forming a facade extends up to the ceiling in a criss-cross manner creating a vault-type volume. Also, skylghts are given to give a light &shadow effect.
The restaurant has been designed in a way so that it gives variety of experiences. Theres an indoor seating which has a corbelled ceiling of layered Saharnpur wooden jalis. These layered jalis enhance the effect of light and shadow as it controls the light coming from the south-west through the skylights in the pitched roof. Also, the porch and balcony seating is planned in such a manner so as it gets a view of the amphitheatre beside the complex.
FINE DINING RESTAURANT
MULTI-PURPOSE HALL
The multi-pupose hall has been designed as a mouldable place. Its interiors have been purposely kept simple. Its walls reach upto the ceiling in a bundle of bamboos which then cris-cross, creating a varied height pitched roof. Above the false pictched roof, skylights are given with louvers to provide an option of controling natural light with the space.

PROPOSED INFORMATION CENTRE & RECREATION SPACE
Dilli Haat Janakpuri: Information Centre & Recreation Space
The complex has a dynamic sence of movement. Walkway connects all spaces in a flow which retains the essence of a ‘Haat’, ie. market space. Public vs. Private spaces are very thoughtfully placed with an apt proximity to each other.
Essence Of Dilli Haat Promoting the cultural diversity of India and allows the craftsmen to display their craft on a mainstream platform. This is an exposure equally beneficial for the urban population and the craftsmen. There are three Dilli Haats in DelhiINA,PITAMPURA and JANAKPURI.
Site: Within the Dilli Haat Complex, the designated site is the existing Food Court
Site A The ar tion. It and ha the co for the
Analysis:- Food Court rea has a defined hierarchy and circulats two storeyed food court as been situated right in the middle of omplex so as to make it easily accesible e public moving around.
Material Used: The material spectrum is an eclectic mix of modern and traditional. Using the timeless red Agra stone, kota stone, slate and the local Delhi quartz stone masonry on facades and landscapes sets a neat and natural typology to this predominantly green complex. Bricks provide a very human scale to a place, it's something one can build easily with just like Lego. Stone Always associated with grand and massive scales, has a very raw, uneven and rough texture to it, something easily marked just like slate. The whole fabrication on tensile on roof has a feel of an huge umbrella to it, which also plays well with light

INTERPRETATION CENTRE‘See The Unseen’ As the site is a cultural hub within itself, I’ve come up with an idea of uplifting Indian Tourism. ‘See The Unseen’ is a concept which highlights those places in India which are less visited but is no less than heaven. Through the interpretation centre I would also promote that particular state’s craft which eventually would encourage the artisans having a stall in Dilli Haat. The Display area would be having levels depicting the topography of india. Eg: If my display shows a place in the Himalayas I would raise the display’s level by 1’-6” to 2’. Similarly, valleys would be a level down.

Recreation Centre -DIY Craft As per analysis, Dilli Haat Janakpuri doesn’t have a planned kids zone so I thought of taking that factor into account for my space. The recreation space doesn’t have a specified age group, Its open to all. One only needs to pay if they take their artifact home. There will be five popular crafts taught in here under the supervision of skilled artisans. The crafts are as follows: 1.) Pottery; 2.) Madhubani Painting; 3.) Block Printing on paper bags, etc; 4.)Bead Jewelry; 5) Warly Painting. Also, there’s a Tea stall which would keep all grades of tea from round the country.
Section A-A’: The volume is altered by suspending artifacts from the double height ceiling. Thus the levels as well as the ceiling give the place a dynamic experience to the visitor.

Section C-C’: The encircled junction is treated with a multiple jute ropes, as to keep a connection between the two areas, ie. food court and the recreation space. Also, these ropes compliments the suspended artifacts and the bamboo screening used in the whole of Dilli Haat Complex. 00 LVL

Section B-B’: The ‘Chai Point’ (Tea Stall) is placed at the centre keeping in mind its accessibility. Also, itsa takeaway beverage station which would add a value to the information centre’s value as a visitor could stroll around sipping a cup of tea.

In a short period of 6 weeks of working with Transform Design, Delhi, I got the opportunity to learn alot as a beginner in the industry. It’s an Interior Design Firm of 8 employees which deals with mainly classical design. Through the firm, i went on site visits of ongoing projects which gave me a clearer idea of how things are dealt with on site. I worked on residential & commercial projects and furniture design.
