What is true Obedience tO GOd? “And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.” Psalm 119:47.The psalmist speaks of delighting in God’s commandments and loving those commandments. While many will boast of their obedience to the law of God as if they are in some measure keeping the law, by their very boasting they deny the law, because the law condemns all boasting other than in the LORD Jesus. What many do not see is that the psalmist was not writing this of himself, but was prophetically writing of the work of obedience that the LORD Jesus Christ came to work out on behalf of those sinners the Father gave Him to save from eternity. The apostle Paul declared, “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain,” Galatians 2:21. That being established, it must be concluded that the LORD Jesus is the ONLY righteous man who obeyed perfectly the law because HE alone truly delighted Himself in those commandments and loved them because of whose they are. His obedience was not just in the letter of the law, but the spirit of it. His obedience was not for Himself, but on behalf of sinners such as us, that HE came to save.
