FROM THE DESK OF PRESIDENT

‘Tell me and I forget Teach me and I remember Involve me and I learn’ At MPS Kalwar Road we swear by this motto of ‘learning by doing’ and understand that knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice. Our students don’t confine themselves to the realm of a classroom. We believe in holistic education which encompasses academics, co-curricular activities, sport education and life skills so that we can rear a level of young minds that are busting with self-confidence and motivation. Moreover educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all. So, we inculcate human values like compassion, honesty, fortitude and perseverance in our students so that they can become the leaders of tomorrow. As I look back in time, when the idea of educating children in a school was conceived, the founder members took a challenge upon themselves to promote education in this city and the adjoining rural and semi urban areas and a new venture as MPS Kalwar Road was added in our legacy of ECMS. Benjamin Franklin has rightly said “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

SATYA NARAYAN KABRA

FROM THE DESK OF BUILDING CHAIRMAN

“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people, who prepares it today.” - Melcom We strongly believe that every student is a unique person with his or her own set of abilities, need and aspirations. We at MPS Kalwar Road are committed to bring out the uniqueness. Besides academic excellence the school is committed to inculcate in all its students strong ethical values of integrity, politeness, kindness for elders. I firmly believe that education should foster confidence, discipline, clarity in thought and decision making abilities to set and achieve goals & above all, social responsibility as a life-long process. The unique MPS pedagogy backed up with meticulously laid state of the art of infrastructure brings excellence in learning. MPSites are groomed to think out of the box and engulf articulation innovation and team work. ‘Crescendo’ the annual school magazine is an insight to the work culture of MPS Kalwar Road. Heartiest congratulations to entire editorial board on its release.

BAJRANG JAKHOTIYA

FROM THE DESK OF GENERAL SECRETARY EDUCATION

“Imagination is more important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world and all there ever will be to know and understand.” - Albert Einstein MPS Kalwar Road runs under the aegis of well established management, ECMS (The Education Committee of the Maheshwari Samaj, Jaipur) that has earned its own niche not only in Jaipur, but across the whole nation. At MPS Kalwar Road, we provide an atmosphere to our students for multi faced development, where children are encouraged to channelize their potential in the pursuit of excellence. Our school is striving hard to make the best possible efforts to inculcate strong values combining with academics and extra-curricular activities in the children. Converting every individual into a self-reliant and independent citizen, the school provides an amalgam of scholastic and co-scholastic activities and strongly believes that, ‘Education is to equip young mind with tools to soar high and think beyond thinking.’ At MPS Kalwar Road, we are dedicated to exhaustive quality learning and are utterly committed to a continuous process of improvement for the benefit of the students. We are always open to refreshing views and suggestions which can add more value to the students of our school.

MADHU SUDAN BIHANI

FROM THE DESK OF HON. SECRETARY (OFFICIATING)

ECMS’ long history is intrinsically linked with the development of its mission, ‘Imparting valuebased education that helps create independent, free thinking individuals who will combine service with excellence’. From past 82 years, ECMS has nurtured talents to suit the changing education system. Along the way, ECMS has built an enviable reputation as a hub for transfer of knowledge, a pioneer of innovation and an exemplary provider of valuable services in the community. Our teams of professional educators are dedicated to help each student attain his or her maximum potential, both academically and socially. Fostering and celebrating our students’ talents and achievements are at the core of all we do every-day. Education is the basis of all progress. It is for the very reason that we frayed into education, about 82 years ago. Over the years, our experience has taught us that progress is possible only if men and women are equally educated and keeping this in view we started with our most ambitious venture MPS Kalwar Road, after successfully establishing various milestones in the field of education. We at MPS Kalwar Road aim to help the students reach greater heights and move on with confidence, determination and indomitable spirit in the days to come. Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam said, “Dreams are not things that you imagine in your sleep; they are things that do not allow you to sleep.” We are confident that this school is the best place for your child. We welcome your active interest and involvement in the progress and activities of your child. We look forward to your continuous support.

Words of Wisdom

HEAD MISTRESS In the words of Oscar Wilde, “The aim of life is self development to realize one’s nature perfectly.” Over the years, we at ECMS, have realized that if the fertile soil of the mind is enriched with the values of love, kindness and patience the saplings of good education and character will grow into strong trees and bear good fruits. MPS Kalwar Road, owned and managed by ECMS (The Education Committee of the Maheshwari Samaj (Society), Jaipur), is one of the most sought after secondary schools in Rajasthan imparting quality education at an affordable cost. Our vision is to ‘Educate, Enlighten, Empower’. The aim of our school is to help our students to grow into fine human beings who are capable to face challenges of the present world. As educators, we at MPS incorporate such activities that help all round development of each child. We strongly believe, ‘Success comes to those who work hard and stays with who don’t rest on the laurels of the past’. We live today in a world that is so very different from the one we grew up in, the one we were educated in. The world today is changing at an accelerated rate and hence we

at MPS, Kalwar Road work at implementing a well balanced curriculum to ensure that the children who walk into the portals of our schools will not just love their school years but truly be prepared to face life’s challenges. At MPS Kalwar Road we emphasize on ‘Children must be taught how to think, not what to think’. Aristotle once said that, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.’’ We fortunately have a committed and supportive management, dedicated teachers, caring and co-operative parents, which blend harmoniously to create a child-centric school, at MPS Kalwar Road. It is natural to find in this ambience, the intensive use of a variety of thinking activities, strategies and group dynamics so that the classrooms become alive. Individually and collectively let’s work to serve the cause of education for the betterment of the coming generation so that they live in a world where ‘Knowledge is free and the head is held high’. Let our boys and girls grow as world-class citizens - a generation of eminent thinkers and wise planners contributing to a better world order. That exactly is our wish, and that exactly is our dream.

NEERA PANDEY

Felicitations from our own sister concerns

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Lao Tzu Mps Kalwar Road is one more arrow added to the quiver of ECMS. The school opens the door of knowledge and builds the foundation for the future. Remember we all as teachers are entrusted with a greater responsibility of chiseling and carving tomorrow’s generation. We have to keep the fire burning in us and have the hunger for knowledge and excellence as it will inspire us to grow bigger and reach the summit. Hope this new branch will follow the great legacy of its sister concerns and create its own benchmarks and its own place in the heart of Jaipurites. “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic, it takes sweet determination and hard work.” - Collin Powell Wish the entire MPS Kalwar family a great and successful journey ahead. - MS. REETA BHARGAVA Principal, MPS Pratap Nagar

‘Success comes to those who work hard and stays with those who don’t rest with the laurels of the past.’ Very few have realised the wealth of sympathy, kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child and the effort of an educator is to unlock this treasure within a child to bring out endless possibilities. MPS Kalwar Road team is an excellent example where the minds blend harmoniously and are committed to take constructive and purposeful actions to produce optimistic results and make students life-long learners and readers. Congratulations to the entire team for their hard work and dedication that has resulted in the publication of this issue of School magazine. This is an excellent example of a step towards a successful pathway that reflects excellent educational experience. Congratulations to the Team. - MR. PRASHANT MADAN Principal, MCCA It is heartening to know that MPS, Kalwar Road is bringing out its first Annual School Magazine. I extend my warm wishes to the entire team, teachers and students. At this juncture I just want to convey a simple message to the young crusade, ‘You are the future of the country. Your success is our success. Just remember there is no excellence without hard work. The hard work is both intellectual and heavy lifting. At times it may translate into hours together. Children if you think you’ll get a buried treasure and earn recognition overnight then you are mistaken. Life is all about challenges and true meaning of life lies in rising up to these challenges’. - MR. O.P. GUPTA Principal, MGPS

Breaking the ice to emulate benign and sanguine ambidexterity like the fellow fraternities of The ECMS, MPS Kalwar Road is a subservient embellishment of infallible rectitude. One cannot simply deny its puissant limpidity in achieving sterling efficacy. Promulgating creativity through its eminent and erudite faculty and facility, MPS Kalwar Road extends pulchritude in all the prospects. Zealous and luminous, the school fosters sublimity and nourishment to the budding students and manifests valorous equinity. It is a sapling institution of clement exuberance in culture, sports and curriculum. I extend my heartiest wishes and benedictions for their excellence and run for ace. Success is the result of perfection, hard work, consistent learning, loyalty, and persistence. - MS. ARCHANA SINGH Principal, MPS International

‘A new beginning, a fresh start and infinite possibilities.’ I am immensely pleased to learn that MPS Kalwar Road, Jaipur is bringing out the maiden issue of its annual school magazine. I extend my warm wishes to the Principal, Staff & Students to continue this journey of excellence. ‘May the sapling planted today grow into an enormous tree and spread its branches” - MR. PAWAN MAHESHWARI Principal (Officiating), MBV

“Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work” - Aristotle. MPS, Kalwar Road is the dream project of the ECMS and I am sure the school is going to create wonders in field of education under the incredible supervision of Ms. Neera Pandey along with workaholic and dedicated team. I believe that you need to be aware of what others are doing, acknowledge their successes and encourage them .When we all help one another, everybody wins. Have a lot of success in your way. - Ms. DALJEET KAUR Principal, MPS Ajmer Road

‘Education is a shared commitment among dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectations.’ It is heartening to note that MPS, Kalwar Road is publishing its first school magazine. “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you‘ll never cease to grow.” - Anthony J.D Angelo Heartiest congratulations to entire MPS Kalwar Road team! Each day is a learning experience. Be open to new ideas, be open to learning. Never compromise on anything less than excellence. Remember excellence needs to be chased. Constantly as it keeps evading us like a mirage. So, work hard, you’ve got to try things and believe me it works. The harder you work, the luckier you get. Don’t forget that dark nights provide the brightest stars. I would conclude with the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Our future depends on what we do in the present.” All the very best for your future endeavors - MS. BHAVANA BHATIA Head Mistress, MPS Sanskriti

“The world is moved along not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.” - Helen Keller This herculean task of editing this school magazine would not have been possible without the sincere support of the members of the editorial board. I’m thankful to all my colleagues who dipped their oars into the turbulent water of journal and have sailed it to the shore of publication. It is a fine thing to have ability but the ability to discover ability in others is the true test. I am really thankful to our head mistress ma’am for entrusting us with the responsibility of editing. I take this opportunity to thank all the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time to send their best wishes for the magazine in form of ‘Messages’. I heartily wish all the readers my best wishes and hope this souvenir will enjoy your critical acclaim and prove itself to play a vital role in the all-round development of the children. - Ms. Pooja Ajmera

“If you would not like to be forgotten as soon as you are dead either write something worth reading or do things worth writing.” - Benjanin Franklin Welcome to the 1st edition of the annual school magazine ‘Crescendo’ of MPS Kalwar. We are really proud and exuberant to acclaim that we are ready with all new hopes and hues to bring out the first issue of our magazine, which is going to surely unfold the unravelled world of the most unforgettable and precious moments of the school. It gives me immense pleasure to ensure that this magazine has successfully accomplished its objective. The reflection of the student’s creativity and achievements is the epitome of the magazine. Students have put forth their ideas and thoughts that are too deep to be expressed and too strong to be suppressed. This magazine is before you due to the combined efforts of the Editorial board of MPS Kalwar. I take the opportunity to thank all the contributors as their contribution is the reason that makes the magazine endearing with our readers. - Ms. Kavita Rathore

My heart is brimming with joy to have the first edition of our school magazine published. Kudos to all those who worked behind the scene to turn this dream into a reality. A magazine mirrors a school - its aims and objectives. It gives an insight about the school and the students. It is a great platform to vent out students’ passion for writing and encourage original thinking within them. Nora Roberts has rightly said, “If you don’t go after what you want, you will never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you are always in the same place.” This magazine is just that step to make them move forward towards their dreams. I would like to thank the dedicated faculties who responded to the call and penned their ideas for the magazine. ‘Creative thinking inspires ideas. Ideas inspire change.’ So lets be creative and bring the change we want in the world. Hope it will inspire students to be more creative. Wish you all a happy reading. - Mr. Banwari Periwal

INVESTITURE CEREMONY ‘If your action inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are a leader.’ The momentous day of 9th October 2018 dawned to bestow responsibilities on the deserving young talents of the school to lead their institution from the front with their commitment, confidence and competence. The school held the ceremony with great enthusiasm. It was the occasion where the young students were all prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted to them by the school. To inculcate the leadership qualities in students and to give them a feel of being an important and integral part of the administrative body, ‘Student council’ was formed. Our esteemed Head Mistress and Honorable Secretary Mr. Ashish Kabra pinned the badges to the perfects, martinets and house captains. Then the Head Mistress administered the oath to the newly elected ‘Prefectorial Body’ and delivered a pertinent speech, acquainting the newly-appointed office bearers.

STUDENT Self help is the best help Once upon a time, there lived an honest cart driver. He had faith in God and prayed to him every day. One day, his cart’s wheel got stuck in the mud. He started playing loudly, “Oh God! Please help me.” God did not answer, Cart driver looking up to the sky (even more loudly) “God aren’t you listening. Please help me.” God liked the cart driver a lot. He spoke to him and said. Put your shoulders to the wheels. Never pray to me for help until you have done your best to help yourself. The cart driver tried to take his cart out of the mud. He succeeded.

Save Girl Child ‘Without a daughter a home is like a body without SOUL’ ‘No home is complete without a women’ These slogans are heard very frequently in our society nowadays. But the question is why we need these slogans even though we have women Defence minister, Foreign minister, Chief minister in our country. Women are doing wonders in every field like sports, defence, politics, social work etc. Even our school is headed by a head mistress. Then question is still remaining WHY? Why we need these slogans in the era of 21st century. The answer is ‘we still live in a male dominated society’, where a women is incomplete without a man. Presently even in the so called highly educated rich families’ girls are killed before being born. Then what is the solution? And answer is ‘strong women’. Women need to be strong enough that they can protest against every wrong against them, women need to be more vocal against crime. A mother should be strong enough to protest against killing of baby girl in their wombs . Males should now understand that if they want a mother, a sister, a wife then they should also accept a daughter. SHRISTY SHARMA CLASS - 6A1

The Proud Rose Once upon a time there was a rose who was very proud of her beautiful looks. Her only disappointment was that she grew next to an ugly cactus. Everyday, the rose would insult the cactus, but the cactus remained quiet. All the other plants in the garden tried to make the rose see sense, but she was too swayed by her own good looks. Once summer, the well present in the garden grew dry and there was no water for the plants. The rose began to fade. She saw a sparrow dip her beak into the cactus for some water. Though ashamed, she asked the cactus if she too could have some water. The kind cactus readily agreed and they both got through the tough summer as friends. Moral - Never judge someone by the way they look.

Motivational Thoughts 1. Failures are a part of life, If you don’t fail, You don’t learn, If you don’t learn you’ll, Never change… 2. Don’t take rest after your first victory because if you fail in second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was Just luck… 3. A positive mind finds opportunity in everything, a negative mind finds faults in everything… 4. Don’t read success stories you will get only message, read failure stories you will get some ideas to get success! 5. F-E-A-R has two meanings, ‘Forget everything and run’ or ‘Face everything and Rise.’ The choice is yours... 6. “2 get” and “2 give” Creates many problems… (Just double it). “4 give” and “4 get” Solve many problems…

Break the Ice

Q: What do you think is the role of the Head mistress in a school? As a Head mistress , I will fulfill my educational ideals and aspirations to the benefit of the school and society. I will implement various policies and programmes to broaden their horizon, consolidate their skills and learning. Q: What are your educational aspirations? According to me, a person should possess both intelligence and virtue and have training in the five aspects of education namely moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic, only then can students have an all round development. Information and knowledge are concrete and passing them to students is not difficult but the challenge lies in inculcation of propriety and moral values in the students. Q: What is the school mission under your leadership? A: My goals, as a Principal, coincides with our school’s mission, which emphasizes on virtues like respect, humility, progress and sensitivity among students. I believe that students must have self respect and respect for others, learn with modesty and should be active and progressive in doing things. Q: What expectations do you have for yourself and your teachers? A: My motto is - ‘Treat people with generosity and handle matters with strictness.’ I always think that in getting along with others we have to learn to be understanding and considerate and put ourselves in other’s shoes. Only in this way can people have close cooperation with one another. Q: What is your future direction for development in terms of academic work and co-curricular activities? The school intends to cater to the needs of students with different learning abilities and arrange for them various forms of training so that they can be best equipped for entry into the outside world. In addition, the school will also diversify extra curricular activities to broaden students horizon and experience. I strongly believe with the concerted effort of all the stakeholders, MPS Kalwar Road will scale new heights!

Ethics of Life Stay Humble Stay Human This is the need of the hour‌ children of today are getting all the facilities of life, be it toys, electrical gadgets, dresses, holiday outings, everything possible in life. Today’s parents are ready to provide everything, in fact sometimes going out of their way and beyond their capacities, they are ready to fulfill the demands of their children. Still it has been noticed that with the disappearance of the joint family system and as children are being brought up in a mechanical and materialistic world, caring and sharing among relatives, friends and community is losing its importance. A world without ethics would lead us to nowhere. Teachers are providing immense knowledge to create awareness, making the children informative, experimentative but it is utmost necessary to learn about the human emotions also - to feel sad when they see someone in distress, to try to help people that helps them overcome distress & problematic situations, not being selfcentered. A little bit of honest effort can bring huge changes for the betterment of other’s life. The aim of life should not be only to become excellent doctors, tremendously skilled engineers, world famous fashion designers but it is also extremely important to be a down to earth person, become a wonderful human being, a person with a golden heart, to have compassion and love for fellow beings. We should promise to become more humble and more humane. Ms. Supra Das Department of Social Science

1. Be happy with what you have while working for what you want. 2. To help your children turn out well, spend twice as much time with them and half as much money. 3. Teach your children the pride, satisfaction and dignity of doing any job well. 4. Never give up on a dream just because of length of time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway. 5. Before you pray - Believe Before you speak - Listen Before you spend - Earn Before you write - Think Before you quit - Try Before you die - Live Ms. Vineeta Gupta Admin Department

10 Facts from the life of A Great Mathematician

Ms. Alka Kushwa, Department of Mathematics

Coming from a humble Tamil Brahmin Iyengar family and without any formal training in pure mathematics, Srinivasa Ramanujan grew up to become a mathematics genius from India. He made incredible contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fractions. Srinivasa Ramanujan’s birth anniversary on December 22 is celebrated as National Mathematics Day every year.

Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on December 22, 1887, in present day Tamil Nadu.

Mr Hardy, after going through his original letters, had said that a ‘single look’ was enough to show that they were written by a mathematician of highest caliber. He even compared Ramanujan to other mathematical geniuses such as Euler and Jacobi. His formulas, theories and equations opened an entire new area of work and inspired further research. Nearly all his claims have now been proven right.

On personal front, Srinivas Ramanujan was a strict vegetarian and follower of goddess Mahalakshmi of Namakkal. “An equation for me has no meaning unless it expresses a thought of God,” he had said.

One of his notebooks that contained discoveries from the last year of his life was considered to be lost, but caused great excitement among mathematicians when it was rediscovered in 1976.

1 3

2 4

His breakthrough came in 1913 when he began a postal partnership with the English mathematician GH Hardy at the University of Cambridge in England. Recognizing the extraordinary work sent to him as samples by Ramanujan, Mr Hardy arranged for his travel to Cambridge. He was first Indian to be elected a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge.

5

6

Ramanujan independently compiled nearly 3,900 results, mostly identities and equations. He is known for discovering LandauRamanujan constant, Mock theta functions, Ramanujan conjecture, Ramanujan prime, Ramanujan-Soldner constant, Ramanujan theta function, Ramanujan’s sum, RogersRamanujan identities and Ramanujan’s master theorem.

7

8

When Ramanujan got married in 1909, he was 12 and his wife Janaki was just 10.

9 10

He died at a young age of 32 in 1920 reportedly due to hepatic amoebiasis. He also suffered from dysentery.
