Key considerations accounted while dealing with the studio were:

1. To ‘read’ an urban area.To observe, analyze and elucidate urban situations.

2. To apply appropriate methods of ‘representation’ to study the urban area.

3.To develop the ability to comprehend various scales of operation.

4. Develop an experimental attitude while tackling design problems.

5.Be aware and attempt design as a methodical search. Develop abilities to adapt to design challenges within the constraints of use of basic to the latest available technology.

NARRATIVES IN ARCHITECTURE

Tutors: Meghal Arya

Semester: Second Semester(Masters in Archiectural design)

Software: Archicad, Photoshop,Indesign,Illustrator.

Skills: Sketching, Writing, Narratiion, Collage, Model making.

Architecture has always claimed to communicate meaning and yet, the idea of narratives remains limited to limited theoretical expressions. Key considerations accounted while dealing with the studio were:

1.Aims to engage with the process of narrative, in particular reference to abandoned site in urban areas.

2.It seeks interpretations building on this theme within the expressions of the built form for a specific design process.

3.As architects engage with the possibilities of advocacy, the narrative offers strategies and mechanisms that foregrounds the experiences of people as part of the design process.

4.The increasingly complex and dynamic social, political and ecological constructs of the world become the settings for the narrative.

The Lost thought...

THE TRAIL OF THOUGHT

The smooth, brownish stoned path had a way of exciting the emotions, as if it realised an adventure was afoot. The umbrella tree canopy above filters the light to a perfect dapple, both warming and protecting my skin as walk forward in the spring summer.

WIDE OPENING

Listening to birds chirp, the enclosed pathway suddenly opens up to an idyallic view where mother earth wrap around with a thick cover of trees, underneath, the river is keeper of deepest poetry, whispering sweet notes in cascading water-strings.

ELEMENT OF SURPRISE

Swiftly sliding down the smooth stoned steps leading to the seating, where it felt like we are floating upon the river, realised there are steps approaching to the river. Excited to feel the water, hopping like a child i reached to see beautifullly crafted boats tied up to the edge.

THE SENSATION

As i stood there took my shoes off, bent to feel the water, chills ran through my body....it was cold.

HAPPY REALISATION

I heard laughter behind as realise that i accompany my musketeers to this feast.

Design process is visualisation through narrative architecture.

PARALLEL WORLD

Walking into dark woods, I heard laughter and people chattering at distance... walking forward the voices become louder and louder, totally contrasting from the atmostphere he was in. It opens up to a parallel world. I see humangous cacoon hanging off the tree, touching just the edge of the river just seems like as if it is floating and something moving within it.

HIDDEN REALITY, TOP OF THE WORLD

Following the footsteps hopping like a frog from one stone to another splashing water over, reach into a den like opening with moist air and raw bamboo fragrance. Moving ahead spoting a hammock where people sit and read and steps leading to a ray of light to heaven. Reaching upstairs see multiple boardgames and a wooden ladder leading to balcony.

IN STORY MEMORY DRAWING, STORY BOARD
DESIGN ARCHITECTURAL INSERT

The City has changed so much in past five years, Roopak says as she comes back graduated to the city. This morning she accompanies her father to the cities New Water research Center where her dad works.

Walking between the trees, path opened up besides stream of algae water stopped from flowing, the water become clearer as walked, wind brushed through my skin, agarbatti fragrance from afar a bridge, wondered what’s it leading up to.

heard water gushing through the greens, curious me spotted that water is falling near the bridge, remember sight of water and the garden was almost dry. How is this placed changed into this, i walk down the bridge talking to myself.

Thats when spotted a building covered by the trees. The steps on the other end of this lake were filled with people reading and chit chattingwhen turn back to the loud noise of the water gushing down.

When i turn behind to see a set of steps resting within the water naturally covered with greens and a girl sitting there and sketching. lifting up my head to a peacfull environment cut away from all the traffic noice this water finds it’s way to fall in between the stones.

Watching the water trickle down sat there on steps dipping my legs in water. after sometime got up to see the building behind the green. The path dipped in water made a splish splash when i saw a kid jumping and enjoying reminded me of the rainy days of my childhood playing in mud water puddle.

REDESIGN CEPT CAMPUS

Tutors: Kevin Low | Shubhra Raje

Semester: Third Semester(Masters in Archiectural design)

Software: Archicad, Photoshop,Indesign,Illustrator,Autocad.

Skills: Mapping, Critiquing, Model making.

The prevalent discourse on architecture positions the architectural project as a singular act made separate from the continuity and collective condition of the environment which we are (still) in obligation to share. The challenges are distancing through iconisation within our disciplinary discourse by reclaiming a critical intimacy with the iconic and recasts architectural critique as a practice of relevance. Through the discovery of relevant questions beyond the familiarity of established narratives of success, the students critically investigated the iconic CEPT Campus. Problems inherent in its existing design by way of vital relationships left unconsidered were identified and resolved by subtle yet profound interventions. Shifting emphasis from design solutions derived primarily from the expression of form to that of solving problems of relevance, we rekindled the continuity of the built environment, and engender an understanding of what constitutes critical architecture in service of responsibility over mere reputation.

Nuclei of Legacy

Tutors: Errol Reubens | Ratna Shah

Semester: Forth Semester(Masters in Archiectural design)

Software: Archicad, Photoshop,Indesign,Illustrator, Sketch up.

Skills: Mapping, Collage.

The lungs of the old city, Sardar Bagh, coexists with a children’s traffic park, an AMC parking lot, and an AMC public garden-waste dump yard. It lacks proper infrastructure and restricts the public from making the most of it. Large vehicles access the AMC public garden-waste dump yard through Sardar Bagh’s pedestrian pathways killing pedestrian safety. The children’s traffic park and public parking are hidden within the complex without proper signage. This public realm needs people.

The program for the site to reuse the public garden waste for the community’s welfare and learning is suitable. The program is a garden school, where future citizens strengthen their ties with nature, and the city known for its food lovers gets citizens trained in growing their own food. It is a place where the new and old city people meet to learn, to plant, to germinate, and to harvest, bringing the community closer to nature.

The project emerges with its unique program, tries to blend with the context architecturally, responds to the immediate context, establishes a symbiotic architecture using elements generated critically, modified, and recomposed. The project intends to add an important green hotspot to the skyline of the entire city.

MASTER PLAN FOR THE GARDEN SCHOOL
SECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE
The connection arched pathways and creation of outdoor rooms are inspired by Ar. Anant Raje’s project IIFM, Bhopal. Moss hanging garden at the enterance welcomes users into the green womb which slides open to the water pond viewing deck for aquaponics tank. Initiation of connection through the intervention between existing traffic school and playground. activating the urban edge for invitation. Activating the urban edge with inviting steps to the green product market from the bus stop facing sidi sayyed.
ACTIVATING URBAN EDGE
Green product market temporary stalls designtypes inspired by traditional market study and observation from badra market. Glimps of a vision of connectivity and axis.
VERTICAL PANEL AND GRID EVOLUTION
Accessibility to the upper level for service. Movability and connectivity between panels. Viewing the workshop built area. Overlooking the green house and aquaponics from admin lawns. Minimum distance between two panels. 11m grid span as permeable shading covered with greens to experience the vertical panels from within and in between with play of light and shadow.
