Our challenge We all want to look good, but with the least effort. In a time where clothes are a way of expression, the team’s goal was to help users be ready and presentable at all times.

What’s the scenario? Needs are everchanging and fabrics are constantly evolving. Research was centred around understanding user needs, garment care methods and the step by step process of getting ready to wear clothes.

The Internals
The Right Combination
We tore down existing irons and steamers to understand the internals and to define the constraints.
Physical Explorations were aimed at finding the right balance between comfort and functionality while combining two separate de-wrinkling appliances. All IP Rights are reserved by Havells India Limited 09

where the product is wired for maximum power to heat the sole plate for the occasion of bulk ironing and for the desirable “crispness in the clothes.
where the steamer can be detached to de-wrinkle delicate fabrics and make clothes soft and comfortable to wear immediately.
where the steam passes from the steamer through the sole plate to soften tough wrinkles which may not go away by simple heat pressing. All IP Rights are reserved by Havells India Limited 11
easy interactions The temperature settings are always seen on either side of the product, so the user never irons with the wrong setting for a particular fabric, while also making switch ambidextrous.
communicates with you To ensure user safety, there is a light indicator present all along the body to indicate when the product is heating/ hot/ ready to use. This way, even those not using the iron are aware when it is hot and can be careful. All IP Rights are reserved by Havells India Limited 12
INDENTED STEAM PORES STEAM TRIGGER
ELECTRIC CONNECTION The back end of the steamer docks into the base plate to electrically connect and charge.
Nothing holding you back The steamer is completely wireless and independent and can be used to dewrinkle quickly without any set up.
STEAMER RELEASE BUTTON
STEAM CONNECTION The steamer head docks in the front of the base plate and allows the steam to pass for steam ironing.

Familiar Architecture For decades, the iron has been synonymous with de-wrinkling in India. Keeping an architecture familiar to the iron helps make SWITCH acceptable, by flattening the learning curve. It also helps introduce a steamer, that helps reduce time and effort, into homes that have forever been dependent on irons. All IP Rights are reserved by Havells India Limited 14
Slide my kitchen clutter away
Designing a new garbage disposal system for domestic Indian homes. Could there be a more efficient and time saving solution to maintain your kitchen? INDIVIDUAL PROJECT
Quick response to a problem 2 weeks
Every activity creates more mess.
There is just never enough space.
Always a clutter
There is always garbage lying around
There is no right place for the bin.
THE Current State
16
The scrap keeps lying around till the end Immediate Solutions
How could we avoid getting the user’s hands dirty?
User - Space Interaction “ I enjoy cooking but it’s annoying to have to clean up the mess after” “Creating a clutter while cooking is just inevitable” “ The cleaning up is what de-motivates me from cooking sometimes”
What if the user could easily dispose off the garbage at any time?
The mess is all spread out Provide for an adaptable solution. 17
Quick Ideation Initial ideation to design a solution that keeps the kitchen counter clean at all times.

It’s so effortless to switch between work and relax mode. This makes interactions more informal once you are seated on the floor which is reminiscent of how we sit at home. Shape facilitates a more collaborative interaction with a focus on maintaining good posture. The module can easily be integrated into any office configuration.

It’s well considered yet different and has a local element to it, exactly what I was hoping for. Sitting closer to the floor and having a clear object instead of a complex sofa construction has been done in residential furniture quite a bit and it might be time to offer something similar for the work space. I think this is a great informal collaborative setting camouflaged as social space. Exactly what is often missing in offices today.

Her first proof of Shreya’s motivation to come to us was to tackle all the paperwork for her visa. She is a very creative person, generous and eager to learn. I really like her “on hands approach” and her sharp way of observing. If she doesn’t agree, she will argument her position well. If not satisfied with her solution, she will continue to explore. When lost, she will find new angles. All her work will be visible in our shops in 2018. Without her, the projects wouldn’t have been developed. During her stay, we all were working on the Quechua Trek human project. And again, even though language could have been a wall, she did share and got involved in the project.
I believe that she will do very well in the future and her co-workers will benefit from her skills and her positive attitude. It was a pleasure to work with Shreya.
