HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY Dr. Shriniwas Kashalikar
The original meaning of the Greek word Physiology is study of nature. In the course of time it came to be identified with the functioning of the living beings. Thus today we have Plant Physiology, Bacterial Physiology, Animal Physiology, Human Physiology etc. In Human Physiology we have; Molecular Physiology, Cell Physiology, Endocrine Physiology, Cardiovascular Physiology, Respiratory Physiology and so on.
In Applied Human Physiology we have Space Physiology, Sports Physiology, Exercise Physiology, High Altitude Physiology, Environmental Physiology, Clinical Physiology etc. The concept of Human Physiology is getting holistic and closer to its original meaning, because of the appreciation of the interactions of everything in the external and internal environments and also the effects of what happened in the past; on human life!! In future; Human Physiology appears to embody comprehending and experiencing the subtle interrelationships between human consciousness and rest of the
nature and expressing or applying this wisdom in the individual and social life! The insights of Psychology, Parapsychology and ancient disciplines of medicine such as Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine, Yoga and the insights of traditional wisdom and those of enlightened individuals are likely to play a great role in this.
