MAKE FUTURES REALITY

A Summer of STEM At Shropshire 3D Print Ltd

This Summer, two Work Experience Students, Katy & Charlie, separately took advantage of a week-long Work Experience Programme at Shropshire 3D Print Ltd in our Ellesmere Office during August 2022. They learned how to slice and prepare design files for 3D Printing in addition to their main brief, thus learning slicing software and 3D Printer Hardware skills quickly. Charlie joined us in the first week of August, and has gone back into upper sixth in September to complete his A-Levels. Katy joined us in the last week of August, and on the Thursday got her GCSE results, achieving 10 straight nines, adding to the GCSE she sat a year earlier making 11 altogether. Our Work Experience Students were both given a very broad overview of every aspect of our 3D Printer and STEM product supply business, and each given responsibility for designing and publishing a multi-media marketing campaign. This included use of our CRM, Design tools and social media scheduling tools. Both Work Experience Students were successful in designing and launching three campaigns between them targeted at different sectors. One an email Laser Cutter campaign, including a promotion targeted at Education Customers and Prospects within our CRM. Our Work Experience Students also designed and launched a Social Media campaign with animated GIF and MP4 for Twitter and Facebook promotion, which they targeted at specific geographics and demographics, promoting 3D Printer consumables and current 3D Printer Promotions to our existing customer base and prospects respectively. The 3D Printer Consumables campaign Katie instigated herself having spent time with our outbound telesales, recognising the importance of aftersales to our existing customers.

“We found the experience very rewarding.” Our Work Experience Students made outbound telephone calls to customers and suppliers and had excellent communication skills. In addition, they were extremely organized, punctual, reliable, and computer literate. Both Work Experience Students proved they could work independently and were able to follow through to ensure that the task set was completed within deadline, ensuring they had time to review task outcomes. The pair, although they worked in separate weeks were both flexible, took on constructive criticism and were willing to work on any project that was assigned to them. The Work Experience Students took notes without prompt, were quick to learn, and to volunteer to assist in other areas of company operations, as well. Paul Brewer, Director of Shropshire 3D Print Ltd said “Both Students enjoyed their experience” “All-in-All“ he added, “we thoroughly enjoyed our summer visitors, and would highly recommend companies getting involved with their local schools to offer the same opportunity, as we found the experience very rewarding.” “We are happy to have given back using our STEM connections to students from our experience of supplying Education with STEM products for many years.”
