THE LOCATION
Kengo Kuma, a Japanese architect and professor born 8th August 1954, travels often to Milan, Italy where he has a secondary firm set up after Tokyo, Japan. Kuma loves the ocean and swimming. He is considered one of the most significant contemporary Japanese architects and is often compared to the likes of Tadao Ando and Shigeru Ban to name a few.
Due to his frequent travels to the European Union, the city of Trieste is the perfect getaway for the architect. Trieste is a city and a seaport in northeastern Italy. Throughout history it has been influenced by its location at the crossroads of Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures. Built mostly on a hillside that becomes a mountain, Triestes urban territory lies at the foot of an imposing escarpment that comes down abruptly from the Karst Plateau towards the sea.
03
Kengo Kuma - Trieste, Italy
CONCEPT BOARD
The new interior will give the client an intrinsic feeling of home and familiarity through carefully executed cultural elements and concepts. The design will also follow the client’s own philosophy of respecting and referencing the location of projects; particularly in regard to Nature. Nature will play a central role in the design concept as the delineation of outside and inside is blurred. This concept will take the user beyond just the visual realm and intrigue all the senses.
Kengo Kuma - Trieste, Italy
03
MATERIAL BOARD
Materials used in this project will reflect the preferences of Mr. Kuma, who uses materials and technology to explore the intersection of tradition and innovation. Wood, stone, paper and glass will be utilized in a balanced way to create harmonious spaces. They will be deployed in ways that subvert their typical sense of materiality; playing with weight, light, shadow and texture.

VENICE BIENNALE 2020
THE THEME
THE LOCATION
How will we live together? That’s the seemingly simple, yet poignant, question posed by Hashim Sarkis, dean of the MIT School of Architecture and Planning and curator of the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, and also the title of the show.
The Venice Biennale is an arts organization based in Venice and the name of the original and principal biennial exhibition the organization presents. The organization changed its name to the Biennale Foundation while the exhibition is now called the Art Biennale to distinguish it from the organization and other exhibitions the Foundation organizes.
04
Biennale - Venice, Italy
CONCEPT BOARD Through this exhibition the individual will go on a journey of selfrealization as they confront different emotions and intangible feelings. They will be confronted with different decisions, stimuli and questions relating to themselves, the world and their place in it. In the postmodern, pop art and colour pop style, we will create a maze through which people walk, forced to make difficult decisions and posed exposing questions that in the end help them realise who they are.
MOOD BOARD A key figure of postmodernism movement, Vitorio Gregoti’s architectural philosophy was that during the design process the Architect must reveal the essence of a landscape and this he does through geometric organization and identification of an operational unit. In this way we will explore the internal landscape of the self; so as to reveal it.
Biennale - Venice, Italy
