01 RESIDENCE DESIGN | AT DIWAD, PUNE The brief of the project was to design a 2bhk house for a family of five at Diwad, Pune. The main challenge was to design a G+1 structure and have only one bedroom on the first floor and make the exterior of the whole structure cohesive yet keeping it connected from the inside to encourage interaction between the users. After years of living under a asbestos cement sheet roof, client was aspiring to have a house which is modern and unique. The house is designed in a way that it looks modern yet has spaces to interact within the house, guests to visit the verandah and have a chat and spend time. The process included understanding the client requirements, periodic stage wise meetings, co-ordination with structural consultants and contractors for feasibility of execution.

02 ROOFTOP DESIGN | AT MANCHAR, PUNE The brief was to design a rooftop bar and restaurant for hotel Indraprastha at Manchar, Pune. The campus comprises of a petrol pump, a wedding lawn and a banquet hall. The restaurant is a ground structure whose rooftop was to be designed as an expansion. The design is a symphony of muted colors, strategically planned and placed patterned flooring, use of lawn on the open to sky spaces, black coloured metal elements and a play of open and semi open spaces. The dining tables are arranged in a way that they get their own space and privacy. The designed spaces are flexible and can be used as per need such as for corporate parties, birthday events, etc.

03 ROWHOUSE SCHEME | AT MOSHI, PUNE The requirement was to develop a plotting layout and phase-I rowhouse scheme for SD Developers, PCMC, Pune. The rowhouses had to be compact enough to comply with the developer’s requirements. The main challenge was to create a housing which is functional, compact yet usable and low on footprint. While designing this rowhouse scheme, one thing that was prominently came to notice that every square feet of area counts and matters.

04 FACADE DESIGN | LIVE PROJECTS This part includes facade design of a residence and a commercial building during freelancing and internship respectively. For both the projects, facade was to be designed but the process was very different for each of them according to their requirements. The process of designing the facade of commercial building included revisiting the plans and updating the design accordingly by going back and forth. Whereas the process for the facade of the residence was restricted to designing just the facade and layout couldn’t be updated. I think architecture is not about isolated things, it’s about cohesion of various things put together working on them by going back and forth was a great learning.

FACADE DESIGN FOR A RESIDENCE | AT ALANDI, PUNE The requirement was to design a facade for a G+2 residence in a modern way for Kreative architects, Pune. The aim was to keep the facade minimal yet playful. The brick cladding add warmth to the facade and break the monotony of white giving it a timeless appeal. From this work I got to learn that facade of the building can be worked out separately but when it is worked out with the planning of the structure, it makes a huge impact on the final product.

Final Design - Front view showing brick cladding and semi open terrace 29

FACADE DESIGN FOR CASPIAN TECHPARK | DURING INTERNSHIP Facade design of this building was done during internship under guidelines of Ar. Jacob George at Metaspace, Kerala. The whole processconsisted of everyday trying out new options and discovering new materials, their details. and implementing them and working on the planning & circulation of the building. After trying various options in the process made us clear about ‘what not to do and what is working for us’ and that made us come to a conclusion that is represented in the final render in the image below.

Final design - Vertical silver orchid net facade with shear wall and porotherm brick cladded wall 31

Initial stage - Black orchid net fins suspended by cables

Initial stage - Flat black orchid net facade with bracing & porotherm brick wall

Development stage - Flat silver orchid net facade with bracing

05 INTERIOR DESIGN | LIVE PROJECTS This part includes interior design projects done during freelancing and internship timespan. First project is a 2.5 BHK residence for a farmer’s family located at Jambe, Mulshi, Pune. Second project is for Mr. Ravi Prasad located at Chennai done during internship at Metaspae, Kerala. The process included in depth understanding the requirements of client and preparation of layout and designs accordingly. Educating client about latest trends and what will best suit their needs & space and providing them with the best design solution. During both projects it was great learning through interaction with clients to understand their requirements and convince them for the design proposals.

FURNITURE DESIGN FOR A RESIDENCE| AT JAMBE, PUNE The requirement was to design furniture for a 2.5 BHK house located at Jambe, Mulshi, Pune. The family is a farmer family with their son working in a IT company. They wanted their home to be modern looking and equiped with functional furniture. The major learning was that with effort and dedication, ideas can be implemented as they are once we develop the required communication skills and the ideas are practical and functional. Work was well executed by coordinating with carpenters, electricians and procurement of materials.

INTERIOR DESIGN FOR MR. R PRASAD| DURING INTERNSHIP This interior design project is located in Chennai and the brief of the client was to design their house in a very minimalist and in a subtle way which is soothing, calming after they reach home from their work. The furniture had to be minimal yet well thought in its function. I was involved in designing custom required furniture according to client’s requirements that was based on the modular furniture designed by Ar. Jacob Georgeduring internship. The furniture is designed in a way that it offers flexibility; it can be taken off from the wall or floor and can be used at any other place according the requirements

06 REIMAGINING PATH OF LIBERATION AT VARANASI

Kashyam marnam mukti means ‘death in Kashi is liberation’, almost a universal belief of a Hindu. In Varanasi there are places set up where people and a few of their loved ones are welcome to stay while they await the final breath of a family member. These two places are Mumukshu Bhavan and Kashi Labh Mukti Bhavan, Which are nearly 100 years old and are in dilapidated condition. But people still use the same infrastructure. The current infrastructure needs to be rebuilt and be given a design thought to make people’s lives better and make a beautiful end stage journey for them as we see in the current day’s hospices but without denying or questioning their thoughts or beliefs. This project is to reimagine Mumukshu Bhavan, Varanasi. Which has quarters for Dandi Swamis, home for old aged and in which an additional space where terminally ill people can stay is designed.

The site is located in a dense urban area known as Assi. Assi gets it’s Name from Assi Ghat; Assi Ghat is the southernmost ghat in Varanasi. Assi Ghat is one of the ghats often visited for recreation and during festivals. Most of the people visiting the ghat on usual days are students from the nearby Banaras Hindu University. I

The approach of the design is to keep the users always connected to the ground and direct connections of the built form to the green spaces. One module is designed in such a way that when fused together forms a semi open private court enclosed by three sides. The users get front and backyard space which makes them feel being at their own home and they have their space to plant various plants. By which each user has a daily activity which will keep them engaged and they will contribute to the raw vegetables required for preparing their own food, be it in a small quantity. 41

07 HOUSING DESIGN | AT TALEGAON, PUNE The brief was to design housing for Industrial employees working in various industries near and within Talegaon. The major challange was to accommodate four different income groups - HIG, MIG -II, MIG -I and LIG in the same site with different requirements. The site is located in a beautiful surrounding with views of terrain and presence of Indrayani river. All the HIG and MIG apartments are raised up with a podium which serves parking on ground floor and LIG apartments on ground floor for differenciation and own space. HIG apartments are clubbed with MIG -II apartments in a same building maintaining private space and own corridor spaces of which HIG flats have three sided views of central open space, river, mountains. Whereas one has to choose MIG -II flat either facing river or central open space.

08 HOTEL DESIGN | AT KERALA The site is located at a beautiful location having undisturbed panaromic views of the surrounding natural landscape. Play of natural light and shadow welcome the guests visiting the hotel having patterns inspired from traditional Kerala Rangoli. Punctures in the wall of the entrance walkway give glimpse of the hotel building. Retaining the existing trees and reuse of wood from the existing buildings make the pathways which are the essence of Kerala. The pathways give access systematically to various spaces starting from public, going to semi-public and ending at private space entrance. Courtyards allow rain water to come into the building lets guests experience Kerala. Rooms are located in a way that Suite rooms get the panaromic view of the surrounding and all the other rooms enjoy view of landscape within and around the site.
