Medjugorje & Dubrovnik Catholic Holiday by DLI Travel

Page 1

DAY 1 Arrival at Dubrovnik, Split or Sarajevo Airport. Transfer to the accommodation, very close to the St. James Church. Bosnia and Herzegovina is the heart shaped land that lies at the heart of southeast Europe. It borders with the Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro and its capital city is Sarajevo. Most of the territory consists of mountains and high rocky ground, covered with forests and pastures. Medjugorje is at an altitude of 200 meters and can be found just 25 kilometers from Mostar and is very close to the Croatian border. Medjugorje is one of the most famous Roman Catholic shrines in the world. It became famous for the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1981, after which it began to develop religious tourism. Besides Sarajevo, this is the most visited tourist center in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will experience the beauty and peace of this simple village. In the evening, at 5pm (or 6pm daylight savings time), we will join the villagers and pilgrims to pray the rosary. The apparition takes place at 5:40 pm (or 6:40 daylight savings time), and then stay on for Croatian Mass. DINNER

DAY 2-3 BREAKFAST Today we will spend all day in Medjugorje and will have the opportunity to share faith with pilgrims from all over the world. At 10 am we assemble at St. James Church for the English-language Mass (Feast days and Sundays English Mass is at Noon). Follow the path up Apparition Hill where the visionaries first encountered Our Lady. Touch and pray before the cross that commemorates the spot where Mary first appeared to the visionaries. Each evening during Croatian Mass, there is the Blessing of the Sick and blessing of the items you have with you. DINNER

DAY 4 BREAKFAST Today we will go for half day trip to see Mostar. Mostar is located on the Neretva river and is the main city of Herzegovina. A beautiful medieval town, it is named after a 16th century Turkish bridge (Stari Most) that used to arch over the river (destroyed in 1993 but rebuilt). Afternoon and evening – free time for taking part in prayers, Mass, etc. DINNER

DAY 5 BREAKFAST Today we will have all day Dubrovnik sightseeing. Dubrovnik is known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, and with its beauty and uniqueness, it justifies that name. George Bernard Shaw was enchanted by this beautiful city, about which he said "those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and see Dubrovnik". Dubrovnik truly is a stunning city with its amazing Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. The distance from Medjugorje to Dubrovnik is approximately 140 kilometers and it is a nice drive through 2 countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. As mentioned, the Old Town and its many sights (including the well-preserved city walls along which you can walk) is the main sight of Dubrovnik. DINNER

DAY 6 BREAKFAST Today, we will spend some time in Medjugorje and in the afternoon there will be a transfer to the Airport. Than return flight home.
