بداية جديدة
As an architect and a publisher I am used to creating designs that are on display for others to see. Recently another strand of my interest has taken me in a similar direction. As a dedicated hobbyist photographer I’ve enjoyed exhibiting some of my work at a gallery in Dubai, and it was very rewarding getting feedback from visitors about my work. Photography is all about finding out how you view the world. Taking a photograph can reveal things about how you perceive your friends, your family, the city you live in, and more. With that in mind, wouldn’t it be nice to try to get off to a fresh start to the new year, to start with a fresh eye capturing your surroundings in a new way and thereby possibly revealing new things? In this issue we try to give you some ideas about where to take photos, what equipment you should consider, how you can edit and improve photos on your Mac, and much more. We hope that with this information you can further explore your own photographic talents. In our part of the world, we’re truly blessed with wonderful weather during the early parts of the year, so take the opportunity to go exploring the environment around you. Macworld Conference and Expo Coming in January

Spotlight سبوت اليت Following the introduction in Egypt and Jordan, iPhone is set to be launched “soon” in Qatar according to http://www.apple.com. iStyle announced the launch of six concept stores in Saudi Arabia. Located around the Kingdom, including in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar, the stores show the company’s continued success, including five stores in the UAE. Sharaf DG expanded their Apple selection at their Times Square store in Dubai. The Apple products on offer has been widened to include MacBooks, iMacs and MacBook Airs and the merchandising displays resemble what can be found in Apple Inc’s stores. يتوقع اطالق ايفون،بعد مصر و االردن .فى قطر قريبًا وفقًا لموقع ابل
iPhone Introduced in Egypt and Jordan اطالق ايفون فى مصر و االردن The iPhone was officially launched in Egypt on November 14 and Jordan on December 19. Available from Mobinil and Vodafone in Egypt and Orange in Jordan, the iPhone has started its march through the Middle East. The price for iPhone in Egypt starts at $690 with a two year contract where monthly price start at $23. In Jordan the price starts at $750 with a monthly contract price of $37. It should be noted that the iPhone does not have any Arabic support yet; customers in Egypt and Jordan will have to turn to third-party solutions for this. In Egypt the authorities got Apple to accept disabling the GPS functionality in the iPhone. That Apple agreed to this should indicate the company’s willingness to work with governments in adjusting their offering to suit local requirements.

Nokia Launches UAE Online Music Store نوكيا تطلق متجر الموسيقى فى دولة االمارات UAE became the first country in Middle East to have a Nokia Online Music Store http://music.nokia.ae. The store has music from Universal, Sony BMG, Warner, EMI, Rotana and Qanawat. With selections of music around the Middle East- a “Khaleeji” category for example- the store should become popular. UAE credit cards can be used to purchase songs or albums. A single track cost AED3 and albums AED30. Unfortunately the Nokia Music Store does not work with Mac OS X. It requires Internet Explorer and is for Windows users only. About the same time as the store, Nokia introduced the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. and very practical camera and can be connected to my Mac very easily. I’ve read that it’s not a great camera for low-light situations such as indoors, and I’ve found that to be true. But with some care the iPhone is capable of really good photos. So whether it’s with iPhone or a dedicated digital camera, go out, enjoy the beautiful cold weather and explore more destinations in your surroundings. خالل االشهر الثالث المنقضيه كنت احاول ان اقرأ و استوعب الكثير عن منتجات ابل ،اعتقد ان خبرتى مازالت محدوده و لكن الشىء الجميل اننى مستمتع باالمر بشكل كبير ،كنت اكتشف كل يوم مالمح جديده فى هاتف ايفون ولكننى لم اعتقد ابدًا اننى اسوف أرضى بكاميرا هاتف ذات ٢ميجابكسل ،بعد فتره بدأت فى استخدام الكاميرا للمواقف الطارئه و العفويه و لكم اذهلتنى! انها بسيطه جدًا ولكن عمليه و يتم توصيلها بحاسب ماك بمنتهى السهوله و تتم عملية ارسال و حفظ الصور بثالثه بالغه و خطوات بسيطه. احد اصدقائى الذى يملك خبره طويله فى عالم ابل اخبرنى ان كاميرا ايفون ال تعمل بكفاءه كبيره عندما تكون فى اماكن مغلقه ذات اضاءه عاديه و السيما اثناء تصوير االغراض او االشخاص فى وضع الحركه لذا اعتقد

Surprised With New Shape
I got Shufflegazine’s new issue from one of the petrol stations and I was surprised with the new shape. In the beginning I didn’t realize why you decided to make it smaller than the usual size but later on I personally felt that it is much easier to take it with me everywhere. The idea is more practical and the size fits perfectly in my backpack. I wanted to express my appreciation to idea and the courage to make the decision. -MK Thank you MK for your support. Q: I have had my iPod touch for about five months and have been able to send and receive emails using the mail app seamlessly. However, two or three weeks ago I could only receive mails but not send any, I now just get an “error sending mail” message and it sits in the out box forever. I have this problem only when using my Yahoo account though. I have tried using Gmail and it works fine, but I’d like it to work with Yahoo as it is my primary email account. Do you have any idea what I should try to fix it? A: Not being a regular Yahoo user myself, I added my Yahoo email to my iPod touch and I got the same problem. What I did was remove the Yahoo account and set it up as “Other” instead and entered the settings manually. Incoming server is pop.bizmail.yahoo.com (SSL on, port 995), outgoing server is smtp.bizmail. yahoo.com (SSL on, port 465). Then, to my surprise, I was able to send Yahoo email with my iPod touch. Q: A while ago my 10 year old son did a PowerPoint presentation on my iBook G4. A year later he needs it for some other work but I can’t find it. If it has
been trashed is there any way I can get it back? A: If it was trashed some time ago there is no hope of getting it back. For retrieval of deleted files to work you have to act immediately otherwise chances are it’s going to be overwritten by something else as the Mac then thinks that space is unoccupied. What OS are you on? If you have Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or newer you have Spotlight search engine (looking glass icon in the right hand side of the menu bar). Use it to search for the file. if you can’t find it that way and it’s not stored on another disk somewhere, like a CD, then I’m afraid not much can be done. Q: I just bought a Mac after being a PC user for all my life. I had read about iChat and the video chatting feature and wanted to try that with my friends in other countries but I can’t get it to work. How can I get iChat video to work? I’m in Dubai on Etisalat DSL. A: This is a problem many people face. Apple’s iChat is a wonderful application when it works, but sometimes it can be a pain to get the audio and video chat to work. Getting them to work involves some configuration of your Mac and network setup.

The Skype.com web site is blocked in the UAE but if you manage to get the software the Skype service, including video, is not, and it’s surprisingly easy to set up and use. Finally, Google has just introduced video chat in GMail. All you need is a GMail account and their software (http://mail.google.com/videochat). Q: Last week I bought an iPhone 3G here in Abu Dhabi. It’s a SIM unlocked iPhone 3G and I want to use it for web browsing and email. I’m on Etisalat post paid, how can I enable data on my iPhone? A: First, make sure you subscribe to a data plan. They come with various allotments of data at different prices. For example, you get the 10GB plan for AED 460 per month with Etisalat. My suggestion is get a plan one step above what you think you might use because if you go over the limit it’s going to cost you a lot extra. Then on your iPhone, enter “etisalat.ae” for APN (Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network).

سؤال :استخدم ايبود منذ حوالى 5أشهر و كنت قادر على ارسال و استقبال البريد االليكترونى بدون اى مشاكل و لكن منذ اسبوعين تقريبًا لم أعد استطيع سوى استقبال البريد االليكترونى فقط بدون ارسال ،دائمًا ما تظهر رسالة خطأ فى االرسال و تبقى الرساله دائمًا معلقة وضع فى االرسال الى االبد ،تلك المشكلة تظهر فقط عند استخدام (ياهو) ،لذا استخدمت ( جى ميل) و هو يعمل بشكل جيد و لكننى احتاج الى (ياهو) النه بريدي االساسى ،هل تستطيع ان تساعدنى فى حل هذة المشكلة؟ جواب :انا ال استخدم بريد ( ياهو) كثيرًاو لكننى اضفته الى ايبود تاتش الذى املكه و واجهت نفس المشكلة ،لذا قمت بحذف حساب ياهو البريدى و وضعته فى ( حسابات اخرى) و ادخلت االعدادات يدويًا .و اصبحت قادر على استخدام بريد ياهو مرة اخرى. سؤال :منذ فترة قام ابنى الذى يبلغ من العمر ١0اعوام بعمل عرض ( بوربوينت) على حاسب (ايبوك فور جى) و بعد فترة احتاج اليه مرة اخرى و لكننى لم استطع ان اجده مرة اخرى ،هل هناك طريقة لكى اجده ؟ اجابة :اذا كان الملف حفظ فى المهمالت لمدة طويلة فال يمكن الحصول عليها مره اخرى إذ ان الملفات التى تلغى يجب ان تسترد سريعًا اذا كنت تحتاجها و اال سيتم تعريفها بشكل مختلف و سيعتبرها حاسب ماك مساحة غير مستخدمه.
ارجو ان تخبرنى اى نسخة من نظام التشغيل تستخدم؟ اذا كنت تستخدم نسخة( ماك او اس اكس 10.4تايجر) او ما فوقها يمكن ان تبحث فى ( سبوت اليت) إليجاد الملف و إذ لم تجده هناك و لم يكن مخزن على قرص مضغوط فاخشى اننى ال استطيع المساعدة. سؤال :اشتريت حاسب ماك من فترة قصيرة بعد ان قضيت كل حياتى استخدم( بي سى) ،و سمعت عن برنامج ( ايشات) و خاصية المحادثه عن طريق الفيديو و اود ان استخدم تلك الميزة مع اصدقائى فى الدول المختلفه و لكننى لم استطع ان أفعلها ،هل لك ان تساعدنى؟ انا اقيم فى دبى و استخدم اتصاالت ( دي اس ال) شكرًا اجابة :هذه المشكله تواجه العديد من الناس ،عمومًا ابل (ايشات) برنامج جميل عندما يعمل بالشكل الصحيح و لكن االمر ليس سه ً ال لكى يعمل بالصوت و الصوره اذ يجب ان تستخدم بعض التعريفات على اعدادات ماك و على الشبكة ،حاليًا يمكنك ان تجد محادثات مخصصة عن ( ايشات) على موقع مجموعة مستخدمى ماك االمارات و كذلك دليل شامل لتعريفات برنامج ( ايشات) ،اعتقد ان ( سكيب) يمثل بديل جيد ،الصفحة الخاصه بموقع ( سكيب) محجوبة فى دولة االمارات و لكن اذ نجحت فى الحصول على البرنامج ستدرك ان البرنامج سواء بالصوت و الصورة يمكن اعداده بسهوله.
سؤال :فى االسبوع الماضى اشتريت هاتف ايفون من ابوظبى بشريحة مفعله و اريد ان استخدم تصفح االنترنت و البريد االليكترونى ،انا استخدم خط اتصاالت ،كيف استطيع استخدامه؟ جواب :او ً ال يجب ان تتأكد من اشتراكك فى باقة بيانات ،تلك الباقات متوفرة باسعار مختلفة على سبيل المثال يمكن الحصول على باقة 10جيجابايت بمبلغ 460درهم شهريًا ،افضل شخصيًا ان تحصل علي باقة اكبر من االحتياجات التى تتوقعها ،ذلك ألنك اذا تعديت الحد سوف تدفع مبالغ اضافية كثيره ،بعد ذلك ادخل عنوان اتصاالت االليكترونى etisalat.com>Settings>General>Netw ork>Cellular Data Network

One of the wonderful things a Switcher discovers is that Macs have many wonderful in-built features, making them more efficient and easy to use. Here are some shortcuts and tips I hope you’ll find useful.
Quick Zoom
Just hold Ctrl and move your scroll wheel (or the twofinger scroll on your trackpad) to zoom in or out.
Close Multiple Open Windows in One Shot
What if you have multiple Finder and Word windows open all over your desktop and want to close all of them quickly? You can close any multi-window Mac application by simply holding down the Option key as you click on the close button of one window. To quit a program entirely you just click Cmd+Q.
Quick Photo Editing in Preview
To make very quick adjustments to a photo, drag the image file from Finder and drop it on top of the Preview icon to open it up in this application. Using the tools menu you can adjust color, exposure, saturation etc. You can also resize or rotate an image in Preview.
Saving Files to Desktop
Usually when you want to save a text or image file by clicking File > Save As in your application menu bar, the save location defaults to the Documents folder. But if you want to simply save the file on your desktop, hit Cmd+D on your keyboard and the save location automatically changes to Desktop.
Show a Folder’s Full Path in Finder
One way of achieving this is to click on the View menu in Finder > Show Path Bar. Another way is to Cmd click the title bar and you’ll see the path displayed as a directory tree. Click on any directory in the tree for quick navigation. If you want a directory to open in a new finder window, click Cmd+Directory.

التقريب السريع Quick Zoom
اضغط على زر التحكم ضغط متواصل و حرك العجلة الدوارة او استخدم نظام التدوير باالصبعين على لوحة التحكم و ذلك لكى تكبر وتصغر.
ً دفعة واحده اغالق النوافذ المتعددة
اذا كان لديك العديد من النوافذ المفتوحة على شاشتك و تريد ان تغلقهم جميعًا بسرعة ،يمكنك بالفعل غلق نوافذ برامج ماك المتعددة بالضغط المتواصل على زر خيارات اثناء ضغطك على زر اغالق احد هذه النوافذ .و اذا اردت الخروج تمامًا من البرنامج اضغط على زر االوامر و حرف (كيو).
اخراج سريع للصور فى ( بريفيو)
لكى تقوم ببعض التعديالت السريعة على الصور ،اسحب الملف الذى توجد به الصورة و ضعة على ايقونة برنامج ( بريفيو) لكى تفتحة ،وبإستخدام قائمة االدوات يمكنك تعديل االلوان .كما يمكنك ايضًا تعديل حجم الصورة و تدويرها.
حفظ الملفات على الشاشة الرئيسية غالبًا عندما تريد ان تحفظ صورة او نص بالضغط على (ملف) ثم ( حفظ) من خالل شريط القوائم ،يكون مكان
الحفظ التلقائى هو (الوثائق) ،ولكن اذا اردت حفظ الملف على الشاشة الرئيسية اضغط على زر االوامر و حرف ( دى ) على لوحة المفاتيح عندها سوف يصبح مكان التخزين التلقائى هو شاشة الحاسب.
معرفة مسار ملف بالكامل من خالل ( فايندر)
الطريقة التى يمكنك من خاللها القيام بذلك هو الضغط على قائمة ( فيو) الموجودة فى ( فايندر) ثم الضغط على ( اظهار المسار) Finder>Show Path Barهناك طريقة اخرى و هى الضغط على شريط العنوان مع الضغط على زر االوامر عندها سيعرض المسار امامك كشبكة من الفروع ،بعدها يمكنك الضغط على احد هذى الفروع لتعقب الملف .اذا اردت فتح احد الفروع فى نافذة جديدة اضغط +Directoryزر االوامر

1984: The Macintosh is introduced on January 24. With a price starting at $2495, it features a 8MHz Motorola 68000 processor, a 9-inch black and white screen, 128KB RAM, and one 400KB 3.5-inch floppy drive. 1989: Apple is busy releasing the SE/30, IIx, IIcx, IIci and Portable. Weighing in at around 8KG, the Portable is still unique as it ran for 5-10 hours on one charge. 1991: With System 7 and QuickTime, Apple makes strides forward in usability and functionality. The Quadra-line of Macs, using the 68040 processor, brings workstation performance to Apple. 1994: Apple introduces the PowerPC line of chips in the Power Mac 6100, 7100, and 8100. This is the end of the line for the 68k chips, which got the Mac started. With the special DOS card in a Quadra 610 you could run Windows natively on a Mac, way before the Intel Macs arrived. 1995: Cloning becomes common place, with Power Computing delivering the first non-Apple produced Mac computers.
1997: Steve Jobs returns to Apple as interim (“i”) CEO and kills the Mac clone program. Mac OS 8 is introduced and the G3 processor sees its first use in Macs, the PowerBook G3 and Power Mac G3. Apple bleeds money and the situation is very bleek.
2003: This year saw the end of the Macs that could boot into the Classic OS as well as the launch of Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. Aluminum replaces titanium in the the Powerbook line and 12- and 17-inch models joining the existing 15-inch.
1998: The “i”-age is truly born with the introduction of the iMac, which would set the trend and standards that still linger in Apple and beyond.
2004: The G5 processor arrives and is put in use in Power Mac G5 and the new all-in-one iMac G5.
1999: The fruit-colored iMacs are introduced along with similarly colored clamshell iBooks, and the first version of iMovie is released. 2001: Continuing the new century, 2001 is a busy year for Apple. Mac OS X is finally released and iTunes 1.0 sees the light of day. 2002: The 15-inch floating, flat-panel iMac is introduced in January together with iPhoto. Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar comes out in August. The “happy Mac face” seen at boot up is replaced by a gray Apple logo.

( ثري جى ) ألول مره فى حاسبات ماك ( بور بوك ثري جى وبور ماك ثري جى ،و كان الوضع المادى لشركة ابل متردى جدًا. فى عام ١٩٩٨بدأ عصر (اي) و كذلك بتقديم ( ايماك) و الذى حدد االتجاهات و المعايير لشركة ابل لفتره طويله. فى عام ١٩٩٩تم تقديم (ايماك) ذو االلوان الجميلة و تم اصدار النسخة االولي من برنامج ( ايموفى) ايضًا فى نفس العام. فى عام ٢٠٠١و الذى يعتبر هو االخر عام مليىء باالحداث بالنسبة لشركة ابل إذ اصدر اخيرًا نظام تشغيل ( ماك او اس اكس) ،كما ظهر برنامج ايتوينز الول مرة. فى عام ٢٠٠٢قدمت ابل حاسب ( ايماك) ذو ١٥بوصة فى شهر يناير و ايضًا برنامج ( ايفوتو) و صدرت النسخة ١٠.٢جاجوار من نظام ماك او اس اكس ،كما تغييرت عالمة و جه ابل الباسم بشعار ابل. عام ٢٠٠٣شهد انتهاء عصر حاسبات ماك التى تستخدم نظام ( او اس اكس) القديم ،.باالضافة الى اطالق ( ماك او اس اكس )١٠.٣بانثر ،و فيما يتعلق بخط انتاج ( بوربوك) تم استبدال تايتنيوم بالومنيوم و ظهرت طرازات ١٢و ١٧بوصة باالضافة الى الطراز الموجود اص ً ال ذو ١٥بوصة.
فى عام ١٩٨٤و تحديدًا فى ٢٤يناير قدمت ابل حاسب الماكنتوش و الذي بلغ سعره ٢٤٩٥دوالر و كان ذو مشغل ٨ميجاهرترز من طراز موتوروال ٦٨٠٠و كانت شاشتة ٩بوصه ابيض و اسود ،بلغت الرامات عدد ١٢٨و قرص مرن حجمه ٣.٥بوصة ذو سعة ٤٠٠كيلوبايت. فى عام ١٩٨٩أصدرت ابل ( اس إى)٣/ بطرازات (ال ال اكس ،ال ال سى اكس) و محمول ،الذى كان فى وقتها رائع اذ كان يعمل لمدة ١٠ساعات بعد ان يشحن لمرة واحدة. فى عام ١٩٩١حققت ابل تقدمًا رائعًا فيما يتعلق بكفاءة االستخدام و الوظائف وذلك بإستخدام ( سيستم ٧و كويك تايم) ،مجموعة ( كوادرا) التى استخدمت معالجات ٦٨٠٤٠زادت من كفاءة ابل.
فى عام ١٩٩٤و الذى يعتبر عامًا مشهودًا لشركة ابل إذ تم تقديم رقائق ( بور بى سى) فى طرازات ( بور ماك ٦١٠٠و ٧١٠٠و )٨١٠٠و بذلك انتهى عصر ( رقائق ٦٨كى) و التى تم استخدمها فى حاسبات ماك منذ البداية .مع وحدة ( دي او اس) الموجودة في حاسب ( كوادرا )٦١٠ اصبح يمكنك ان تشغل ويندوز على ماك و ذلك بفترة طويلة قبل ظهور ماك-انتل. فى عام ١٩٩٥اصبح االستنساخ التقنى امر سائد إذ قدمت شركة ( بور للحاسبات) اول حاسب ماك ليس من انتاج ابل. فى عام ١٩٩٧عاد ستيف جوبز الى شركة ابل كرئيس تنفيذى مؤقت و أجهز على برنامج استنساخ ماك ،وفى نفس العام ظهر نظام تشغيل ( ماك او اس )٨كما تم استخدام معالجات
فى عام ٢٠٠٤ظهرت معالجات ( فايف جى) و تم استخدامها فى حاسبات ( بور بوك فايف جى) و ايضًا فى حاسبات ( ايماك) الكل فى واحدة ( فايف جى). شهد عام ٢٠٠٥تركيب كاميرا ( ايسايت) – و التى ظهرت اساسًا فى – ٢٠٠٣فى حاسبات ايماك ،و ظهر الول مرة ماك مينى .اطلق ايضًا نسخة ( ماك او اس اكس تايجر) عام ٢٠٠٦تحولت ابل الى معالجات انتل فى طرازات ( ايماك و ماك مينى و فى ماكبوك و ماكبوك برو و ماكبرو). عام ٢٠٠٨شهد ميالد ( ماكبوك اير) انحف ماك على االطالق و ذلك في شهر يناير ،اما فى شهر اكتوبر فقد اطلق ( ماكبوك و ماكبوك برو) بشاشة زجاجية كاملة ،و لو حة تحكم زجاجية ،تقنية ( الجسد الواحد).

بقلم عمران العويس خالل السنوات القليله المنقضيه زاد عشقى للتصوير و زادات بالطبع معدات التصوير لدى .لقد بدأت بأبسط االشياء حتى حصلت على كاميرا ” دي اس ال ار” و بالطبع مع بعض العدسات االضافيه .و االن و بعد عشر سنوات اصبح عندى العديد من الكاميرات و عدد ال يحصى من وحدات شحن الكهرباء و كروت الذاكره و البطاريات و لكن منذ ان اطلقت ” إي او اس ٥دي مارك ” ٢فى سبتمبر لم اعد استعمل سواها. االن افتخر باقتنائى احدى العدسات المتطوره من “كانون” و اردت ان استعملهما مع تلك الكاميرا الفائقة االداء، ذات ٢١.١ميجابكسل و هى قادره على انتاج ٥٦١٦فى ٣٧٤٤ بكسل لتصل الى مايقرب من ٣.٩فرايم فى الثانيه ،اعترف باننى اندهش بأنها فع ً ال كاميرا مميزه وكذلك عندما اكتشفت انها قادره ايضًا على تصوير الفيديو بتقنية ” اتش دي” بتباين يصل الى ٣٠/١٠٨٠/١٩٢٠اف بي اس” اندهشت كثيرًا فهذا يعنى اننى استطيع تصوير الفيديو بتقنية ” اتش دي” و بطبيعه الحال الصور ثم اقوم باخراجهما معًا على حاسب ماكبوك برو. نوعية تصوير الفيديو جيده و اشعر كما لو اننى اصور بكاميرا تساوى اآلف الدوالرات .فى برنامج “ايموفى” اضافة المؤثرات تجعل االفالم تبدو جميله و ال تقارن بأى شىء اخر .هذا ألن العدسات المتطوره توفر نوعية افالم قريبة الشبه بافالم السينما. اخيرًا اظننى سوف استمتع بالتصوير و بمساعدة ” ايموفى” سوف اكون قادر على انتاج افالم قصيره تبدو وكأنها انتاج تكلف ماليين. كانون “إي او اس” ٥دي مارك٢ السعر ٣،٩٠٠ ”١٤،٣٧٥ :دوالر” للكاميرا و العدسات المتطلبات :كومباكت فالش كارد مميزات :صور ذات جوده عاليه ،تصوير فيديو بتقنية ” اتش دي” تعمل مع ايفوتو و ايموفي بكل سهوله ،تجربه جميله عيوب :ارتفاع السعر ،كبر الحجم ربما يكون مشكله اثناء الرحالت العائليه،الشكل كان من الممكن تحسينه و ذلك بجعل الشاشة مستجيبه للمس على سبيل المثال.
In the past few years, my addiction to photography has been growing and so has my equipment. Starting from a point and shoot, I gradually transitioned to DSLR’s (Digital Single Lens Reflex), also adding better lenses along the way. It’s been ten years, a dozen cameras, countless chargers, memory sticks, batteries, etc. But since the EOS 5D Mark II was announced in September I’ve not been able to care about anything else. ”Now that I’m a very proud owner of many prime “L Canon lenses, I wanted to put them to good use with this monster of a camera. With 21.1 megapixels, capable of producing 5616×3744 pixel exposures of up to 3.9 frames per second, I must say this is a wonderful camera. When I discovered it also does HD video at full 1080 resolution (1920×1080, 30fps) it was like “wow”. That means in one device I can shoot HD video as well as photographs and edit it all on my MacBook Pro. The video quality is so good it feels like I’m shooting with a camera costing $100,000 or more. In iMovie, adding effects and transitions, the video looks so good and it blows anything else completely away. Having prime lenses, with wide open apertures, such as f1.2 or f2.8, the quality of the video is as near as cinema movies as I’ll ever come. Finally, I’m going to enjoy what I always wanted to do. I can, with iMovie, produce small video clips that look like multi million dollar productions.

واجهة باراليلس كانت اول البرامج االفتراضيه لحاسبات و مازالت فى مقدمة المنافسه٢٠٠٦ ماك انتل فى عام و التى تدعم دعمًا٤.٠ وذلك باصدار النسخه الجديده ً كام ” اما وحدات٢.٠ و اوبن جي ال٩.٠ال ” دايركت اكس ميجابايت مما٢٥٦ ذاكرة الجرافيك فقد زادت لتصل الى يجب ان يشعر محبى االلعاب و فنانى االبعاد الثالثيه .بالسعادة و لكن حجم االلعاب المدعومه مازال محدودًا جيجابايت من٨ و من اجل رفع مستوى االداء هناك وحدات ” سي بي يو” و قد اعلنت الشركة ان٨ الرامات و اسرع من النسخه السابقه بنسبة٤.٠ النسخة الحديثه .خمسين فى المائه
Parallels Desktop was the first virtualization software for the Intel Macs in 2006 and it’s still ahead of the competition with the new version 4.0. Included in this version is full support for DirectX9.0; OpenGL 2.0 included in this graphics memory support has been increased to 256MB. Also likely to increase performance is the support for 8GB of RAM and 8 CPUs. The company claims that all together Parallels 4.0 is 50 percent faster than the previous version. Coherence mode, which lets you run Windows application in separate windows right alongside of your Mac applications, has been updated to better integrate with Mac OS X. Among the new features we find Modality and SmartMount. Modality is good if you’re on a notebook with limited screen space. It shows your Windows desktop as a semi-transparent thumbnail on your Mac screen, allowing you to interact with it (copy-paste, move windows, etc). SmartMount allows you to share the CD/DVD drive between both operating systems at the same time, something not previously possible. There have been quite a number of problems reported from users about upgrading virtual operating systems from Parallels 3.0 to 4.0. I experienced no such problems and everything worked like it should. To sum up, Parallels 4.0 is a good step forward but if you already have Fusion 2.0 there’s little need to switch.

The latest version (3.1) of Nisus Writer Express, NWE, (pronounced “nice-us”) has a simple user interface that hides some of the true power of NWE. The tool bar on the top of the screen shows some main features such as the views functions and the language options. On the right side of the screen, the tool drawer is full of functions in a way similar to other software applications. Unlike most other applications this drawer is customizable. You can mix and match the individual parts just by dragging and dropping them into place. In the bottom right corner of the NWE window lies a few icons showing zooming, the current language in use, heading and some editing functions.
In the language options you can select your favorite and most used languages from the list which includes a large number of languages. NWE has multilingual capabilities including right-toleft orientated languages such as Arabic. With NWE you can actually accommodate and edit different languages in the same document. In an environment where you mix languages like we do at Shufflegazine, NWE is a great choice. Generally speaking, performance of NWE on even modest hardware is satisfying. That NWE can read and write Microsoft Word files is also very helpful. For most users the difference between the Express and the full version of Nisus Writer is not with the $34 extra ($79 for full version of Nisus Writer). The extra money gets you mail merge, comments, table of contents, and line numbering. If you’re mostly interested in writing text, not formatting longer documents, save your money and get NWE.

If you are looking for a semi-portable speaker system to connect to your iPod or iPhone the OutCast from SoundCast is a good choice, at least if you’re willing to fork out almost AED3000. The OutCast system consists of two main parts: the iCast transmitter and the OutCast speaker. Together they form a unit of almost 80cm height and close to 20kg. It’s a formidable combination and although you can move it around it’s hardly portable. The iCast, to which you connect an iPod or iPhone through the standard iPod connection, sends a wireless 2.4GHz signal up to around 100m outdoors. The audio quality coming out of the OutCast is very clear and strong enough to make a small party with it. You can operate the OutCast on battery for up to 10 hours according to the manufacturer or on AC power. To fully charge the battery should take around 2-3 hours. Pretty much whatever you want to connect to the iCast and play music through the OutCast works. This includes almost all types of iPods like iPod 3G, iPod mini, iPod nano and iPod 4G, iPhone, as well as both Mac or PC. The OutCast can be controlled through buttons on the top of the unit to control the volume, track selection, and more. This only works with an iPod, not if you connect something through the AUX connection. To sum up, the OutCast in combination with iCast makes for a great party music system. Bring it with you to the barbecue, the desert camping trip, or why not use it in the Ramadan tent next year? It has many applications if you’re willing to pay the rather steep price and work your muscles moving it around.

If you’re like me, you live out of your Mac notebook and need files with you all the time; but they never seem to fit on the Mac’s hard drive. Then a portable, external drive might be the solution. The WD Passport Studio comes in sizes up to 500GB, and with dual interface it should deliver high performance in most situations. It’s powered over the bus (meaning the USB or Firewire cable) so you don’t need to carry a separate power adapter. The drive has two ports, Firewire and USB, and comes with three cables, USB, Firewire 400 and Firewire 800. All of this is enclosed in a very nice looking two-colored plastic case, measuring 18×127x81mm and weighing 0.18kg. The WD driver software puts a special icon on the drive when mounted on the desktop, which has a gauge showing how much space is taken on the drive. There are also physical lights on the drive showing capacity.
The driver is “turbo powered” meaning performance should improve with it installed. In our simple test we copied a folder with 53 files, total of 706MB, to an empty Passport drive. Without driver: USB 76 seconds, Firewire 800 22 seconds, and with driver: USB 51 seconds, Firewire 800 20 seconds. So “turbo powered” might speed things up a little bit. I can’t really fault this drive for anything. The only thing I might consider a downside is that after using it intensely for a long time it gets pretty hot; so you’ll want to consider what surface you put it on in such situations. But this is more of an occasional travel drive than an always-on desktop drive, so it’s not fair to see that as a serious problem. I have to give this review unit back in a few days, but I’ve already bought one myself. That’s about as a good an endorsement as anything, I think.

Camera
You have basically a choice between three types of cameras: ultra compact, compact/prosumer, and SLR (Single Lens Reflex). An ultra compact camera is obviously small but they’re often packed with functionality yet easy to use, even at really low prices. On the downside of this class of camera is that you are limited in the manual controls and the built-in flash is usually weak. Paying a bIt more than for the ultra compact you typically get a better lens, a wider range of zoom, the ability to put wide angle or telephoto lens attachments on it, as well as more manual controls. All that comes with higher sticker price of course, and the camera can become more complex to operate as well as larger than the ultra-
compact. Finally, if you want the best quality photos and the most flexibility, pick a camera from the SLR category. These are the type of cameras you can change lenses on so they are completely adaptable to what you need. With complete manual controls you can learn and express yourself in whatever way you want to. But you also pay more for the camera and you may not want to carry around larger and heavier equipment. Something we need to mention also is that most digital cameras today also shoot video. Some of the later models even handle HD video at amazing quality. It might be that you can find one device that handles both your still photo as well as your video needs. That’s something to look for when you select a camera.

You may have heard about “shooting RAW”. It basically refers to a way a digital camera stores the information about the exposures you make in RAW files on the memory card. You get two main benefits from RAW: 1) all information in the exposure is retained, nothing is lost, and 2) you can make much more adjustments to a RAW file after the exposure, once you’ve transferred it to your Mac, compared to a JPEG file. The RAW digital exposure or file is untouched by the camera, it’s not processed in any other way than saving the information to a file. If you want the maximum possible flexibility in post-processing as well as retain as much quality as you can then use the RAW format.

Accessories
Among the accessories you should consider, regardless of what type of camera you have, are extra batteries, extra memory cards, a bag, cleaning equipment and a tripod. You don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you could take the photograph of a lifetime but you have run out of battery or your only memory card is full. Stock up on a few extra memory cards and one extra battery and you’re covered. Cameras should be cleaned carefully just like any other equipment especially with static electricity being a threat to any digital and electronic gear. You also want protection from dropping your camera, so find a bag or case to put it in. Finally, a tripod can be helpful to have around and Joby’s GorillaPod (http://tinyurl. com/6a57mr) is flexible, sturdy but also takes up very little space.

Your Mac most likely already has one of the best software applications for digital photography, Apple’s iPhoto, part of their iLife suite, which comes free with every new Mac. If you want to keep an archive of your photos, do some editing, and even print a few, then iPhoto is more than enough. If you want to become more serious with photo editing then the natural step up if you’ve worked with iPhoto is Apple’s Aperture software. Aperture really comes into its own if you shoot a lot of RAW (read more about RAW later in the article) and if you shoot a lot of exposures, meaning hundreds or thousands. The editing tools are more advanced of course but also there are more and better tools for sorting through many exposures. Adobe’s LightRoom is another option and you should evaluate both before selecting which one

What Mac you use for your photography doesn’t matter that much, other than if you’re a really serious amateur or professional. The main decision you have to make is whether you go for portable or stationary, a notebook or a desktop. If you want to move around then a MacBook or MacBook Air is a good choice. With more demanding needs there’s the MacBook Pro with faster processor and bigger screen. For a desktop the iMac is a good choice and only if you have very demanding needs in terms of storage, graphics, and expandability would you need to go to a Mac Pro. Even a Mac mini would work and is a good choice if you already have money invested in a nice big monitor. What I would recommend is that you buy as much RAM as you can afford and try to get more than you think you need. So if you think that you may be okay today with 2GB, I’d say go ahead and get 4GB. There is something called “the megapixel myth” referring to the common belief that more is always better, including the number of megapixels a digital camera has. The simple truth is that there is nothing inherently better in the number of pixels a camera has. There are many other factors deciding the quality of a photo like the lens, the light, composition, and of course the photographer. If you want to print, a rule of thumb is you need enough pixels to be able to print at the physical size you want and 300DPI (Dots Per Inch). This means to print something one inch square you need a picture 300×300 pixels, which comes to 0.1 megapixel.

The only real choice you have today in terms of affordable photo printing is an ink jet. What you should consider is how large are the photos you want to print and our suggestion is to buy a printer that can handle one size larger than you think you need. For photography a printer with separate cartridges for the different colors means you save money on ink. If you’re in a busy office with lots of cables already perhaps a printer with Wi-Fi connection is a good idea. Since you’re using a Mac look at if Mac drivers and software is available for the printer. For all the major brands today, such as HP, Canon, and Epson, that is not a problem. Finally you should consider the paper and the ink you use. If you want to print photos that should keep their color for a long time, you need special archival ink and paper.

Assuming you’re going to take a lot of photos, then you will sooner or later end up with too many to keep them always on your main hard drive. Then you need to consider archiving. You can of course fill up external hard drives but you may want something more permanent, like writing to DVDs. Using optical media like DVD has one benefit in that you can make multiple copies very easily and cheaply. Also consider online backup and archiving. If you have MobileMe then your iDisk might be one alternative. Other good options include JungleDisk (www. jungledisk.com), Mozy (www.mozy. com) and GetDropBox (www. getdropbox.com). Also remember that an iPod can serve as a photo backup device, as shown by Fakhra in her article further on in this issue.

very strong desire, although I knew nothing about photography and nobody involved in photography. So I took a long road toward learning it, but I’ve loved this journey with a passion.
Q: When researching you and your work, it seems that you put a lot of importance on file management. What is the importance of file management before starting a photography project and what is the first step toward planning a new photography project?
A: Everybody needs to set up a successful workflow. If you set up a wrong file management system it can bog down your entire workflow. So file management is a very important part of establishing a good workflow from the very beginning. When people who ask how to set up an efficient digital workflow, the first thing I mention is the need to establish a proper management system. Eddie Tapp is a famous professional photographer with more than 20 years experience in computer and digital photography. He was the Chairman of the Committee on Digital and Advanced Imaging for the Professional Photographers in the US and is currently working as the Director of the Institute of Visual Arts in Maui, Hawaii. He’s also published two books: Photoshop Workflow Setups and Practical Color Management, and is also considered to be an Adobe expert. surprisingly he started his life as a musician, before turning to Photography.
Q: Which professional title best defines you?
A: Well the closest to my heart is as a photographer. I use Adobe products as a tool in photography, and my passion is photography; my educational direction is also from a photographer’s mentality. However my books are not just for photographers, but are also for anyone who uses Photoshop to process images for reproduction. I consider there to be three entities to photography: input, process, and output. I concentrate on different aspects of these levels to generate consistency of quality within my photography.
Q: When did you start with photography?
A: When I was a teenager the day came when I realized that I wanted to be a photographer for the rest of my life. I generated a burning desire; I had a
Successful file management means managing files as they are coming in. The type of file management system will depend on the volume of work coming in and the type of project you are doing. The more detail you put into planning the set up of this file management system, the more efficient your work flow for that project will be.
Q: What topic will you be discussing in your workshop? A: I’ll teach some professional techniques designed for productivity. I’ve condensed the best of the creative aspects into a productive digital work flow, which I think is a wonderful thing to be able to do. One thing to keep in mind with something like Adobe Photoshop is that there are many different ways to achieve the same thing. There is no right or wrong way; there are many different ways, and the more ways we understand the easier it becomes to accomplish our creative direction. I am here to present some of these ways.
Q: Do you have any plans to give more workshops in the UAE?
A: I came to visit Dubai last April, and am here again. I think I’ll be coming here frequently, as I believe computer technology has a bright future in the UAE and would like to distribute my books here to be available to all the photographers and Photoshop users in the region.

Eddi Tapp’s Tips For Better Digital Photography Planning is critical if you want to be serious about your photography. You need to know what you want to accomplish and then plan so you can achieve that. Equipment is something you need to know and understand intimately. How it reacts in different situations is important so you can capture the moment. Light is obviously vitally important. You
should try to get to know the light as intimately as you can to understand how to best take a photograph in the particular conditions.
Practice, practice, practice. The best way to improve yourself is to shoot, shoot and shoot. Repeat the photographic process in different ways to get more experience.
نصائح «إدى تاب» للحصول على صور افضل التخطيط
التخطيط نقطه هامه اذا ما اردت ان تتعامل مع ً بداية حدد اهدافك التى التصوير على محمل الجد. تريد تنفيذها و اعد خطه بها. يجب ان تدرس المعدات التى تنوي استخدامها و تعرف ردة فعلها فى المواقف المختلفه لكى تستطيع ان تلقتط الصور التى قد تظهر امامك فى اى لحظه.
الضوء
للضوء اهميه قصوى فى الصور لذا من المهم ان تحس بالضوء قدر استطاعتك مما سوف يؤهلك للحصول على لقطات افضل.
التمرين
افضل الطرق لتحسين مستواك هى التمرين المستمر ،ال تخشى اى شىء .كرر التقاط الصور من بطرق مختلفه و زوايا مختلفه
س :سيد “تاب” اى هذة االلقاب يصفك بشكل افضل؟
ج :االقرب الى قلبى هو ” إدي تاب المصور” انا استخدم ” ادوبي” كأداه في التصوير ،ولكن حبى الحقيقى هو التصوير ،كما ان تعليمى ارتكز عليه ايضًا اال ان كتبى ليست للمصورين فقط و لكن ألى شخص يستخدم برامج “ادوبي” من اجل العمل على الصور ،انا عتبر ان هناك ثالث محاور لعملية التصوير هى التقاط الصور ثم العمل عليها ثم الحصول على النتائج لذا فانا اركز على زوايا مختلفه لكل هذه المحاور السابق ذكرها لكى احقق افضل نوعيه اثناء تصويرى
س:متى بدأت االشتغال بالتصوير؟
ج :عندما كنت مراهق ادركت اننى احب و اريد ان اكون مصورًا و شبت بداخلى رغبه عارمه مع اننى لم اكن اعرف اى شىء عن التصوير و لم اعرف احدًا من العاملين فى مجال التصوير ، ،بعدها سلكت طريق طويل احببته بكل جوارحى.
اثناء البحث الذى قمت به عنك و عن اعمالك وجدت انك تهتم بتنظيم الملفات بشكل كبير ،ما هى اهمية تنظيم الملفات بالنسبه لك قبل ان تبدأ احد مشروعاتك التصويريه ؟ و ما هى الخطوه االولى التى تقوم بها اثناء اعدادك للمشروع؟
ج :الجميع يحتاج الى الحصول على نسق ناجح للعمل ،لذا فإن وضع اسلوب خاطىء لتنظيم الملفات قد يعوق هذا النسق بشكل كبير و من هنا تنبع اهمية تنظيم الملفات كخطوة البدايه .عندما يسألنى الجميع كيف نستطيع ان نحقق نسق ناجح اخبرهم بإن اهم شىء هو تنظيم الملفات. تنظيم الملفات بشكل ناجح يعتمد فى االساس على حجم العمل الذى تنوى القيام به و على طبيعة المشروع الذى انت بصدد االقدام عليه و كلما قمت بالتحضير الجيد و التنظيم كلما كان نسق العمل اثناء المشروع مؤثر و فعال.
س:ما هى الموضوعات التى تنوى مناقشتها اثناء ورشة العمل؟
ج :سوف اقوم بشرح بعض التقنيات المخصصه لرفع نوعيه االنتاج الذى نقوم به و قد قمت بتكثيف عدة طرق من اجل الحصول على نسق فعال و هذا امر جيد. و اود ان اشير الى امر فى غاية االهميه عند التعامل مع برنامج مثل ” ادوبي فوتوشوب” و هو انه ال توجد طريقه صحيحه و اخرى خاطئه و لكن توجد طرق مختلفه و كلما عرفنا العديد من هذه الطرق كلما استطعنا تحقيق ما نبغيه بسهوله ،انا هنا القدم بعضًا من هذة الطرق.
س :هل تنوى القاء المزيد من ورش العمل فى دولة االمارات فى المستقبل؟
ج :لقد حضرت الى دبى فى ابريل الماضى و انا هنا اآلن كما ترى و اعتقد اننى سوف احضر الى هنا بانتظام إلننى اعتقد ان صناعة الحاسبات لها مستقبل مشرق فى دولة االمارات و سوف احاول ان انشر بعض اعمالى هنا لكى تكون متوفره لمصورين و مستخدمى “ادوبي” فى المنطقه.

Performance
There is plenty of power in the MacBook Pro. With a Core 2 Duo Processor running at speeds from 2.4GHz to 2.8GHz, this notebook can truly be a desktop replacement. It has 3 or 6MB on-chip shared L2 Cache. All this coupled with a fast 1066MHz front side bus, makes the MacBook Pro a true speed demon in the world of notebooks.
Memory
The MacBook Pro has two slots for memory chips (PC2-5300 SO-DIMMs, 1066MHz) and if you put the maximum supported amount of RAM in, you get 4GB, which should be plenty for most users’ needs.
Communications
Also in this respect the MacBook Pro is well equipped. It has the Airport Extreme 802.11n wireless networking we’ve come to expect in all Macs, as well as Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. And if that isn’t enough, you can always plug the MacBook Pro in to an Ethernet network.
Display and Graphics
Gamers should be delighted with the the MacBook Pro’s graphics. Resolutions up to 1400×900 backed by NVIDIA GeForce 9600M with 256 or 512MB memory, makes this a killer gaming machine, and it’s portable!
Storage
As far as notebooks goes, the MacBook Pro has plenty of storage. It ranges from 250GB up to 320GB.

Eddie Tapp recently gave a Photoshop workshop in Dubai and one method he presented is called “the 90% method”. Based on the idea that color correction on a computer monitor is an inexact science because different monitors in different light show colors and contrast in different ways, the “90% method” uses exact numbers to correct colors. We present here a tutorial of Eddie’s “90% method” using Photoshop CS4. Eddie says, it’s “the method that works 90% of the time”. With the Eyedropper color sampler tool, find an area in the photo, which is white. When you’ve found it, click to lock in that vale in the Info-panel (#1). Note that this is not necessarily the area that looks white but that is white in the actual, real situation. In our example I clicked on a bit of the white power cable running along the railing of the pier.

Similarly, click on an area where there is black in the photo to lock in that value (#2) in the Info-panel. This should be an area that would appear black or close to it in the real situation. In our example I selected an area under the pier.

Make note of the highest value in #1 (in our case 203) and the lowest value in #2 (in our case 17). Now we’ll adjust the colors so they are uniform across Red, Green, and Blue.

In our example, the highest value for #1 was on red so we’ll adjust the green and blue to the same value or close. We do this by changing to green in the Channel drop-down and dragging the right slider (the highlights) until we see 203 in the Info-panel for green in #1.

Using iPod as Backup for Photos by Fakhra Omair
If you don’t have an external storage unit to back up your photos while traveling, you can use your iPod to save a backup copy of your photos. We’ll show you how you can make such a backup copy in few short steps. I hope this tip will be useful for you.

First, make sure the photos you want to backup to the iPod are already on your Mac.

Connect your iPod to your Mac.

iTunes will open automatically. If it doesn’t, start iTunes yourself.

Click on your iPod on the left side of the iTunes window.

Check the “Enable Disk Use” box.

Your iPod will appear on the desktop.

Now drag and drop the images you want to back up from your Mac to your iPod.

Don’t forget to empty your iPod once you get back home.

A panorama is basically several photos stitched together, usually side-by-side, to form a larger photo. There are several panorama applications for iPhone. For this tutorial we used Pano from http://debaclesoftware.com/.
البانوراما هى اساسًا مجموعة صور مجمعه جنبًا فى هذا العرض.الى جنب لتكون صوره عامه كبيره .استخدمنا بانو لعمل البانوراما

Select your scene carefully. Pano can combine up to four photos. Start Pano and point the iPhone to the area where you want to take the first shot, probably on the extreme left of the panorama. Press the green Camera button to take the picture.
Reposition the iPhone for the second shot. Note that Pano will show a semi-transparent part of the first shot on the left. Try to position the second shot so it overlaps as closely as possible the first one.

بانو يستطيع ان يكون.اختر المشهد او اللقطه بعنايه ابدأ بتشغيل بانو و أشر بايفون للمكان الذى.حتى اربع صور تبغى تصوير اللقطه االولى فيه و غالبًا ما تكون فى اقصى .يسار الشاشه ثم اضغط الزر االخضر اللتقاط الصوره
اعد وضع ايفون اللتقاط الصوره الثانيه و الحظ ان بانو سوف يظهر جزء شبه شفاف من الصوره االولى الموجوده على حاول ان تضع اللقطه الثانيه بحيث تكون قريبه من.اليسار .االولى
Step 2 If that photo looks okay, click the “Use Photo” button. If you want to take it over again, click the Retake button.
الخطوه الثانيه اذا بدت الصوره بشكل جيد اضغط على زر “استخدم الصوره” اما اذا كنت ترغب فى تغييرها فاضغط على ” اعد .”التصوير

Step 5 When you are done press the Cancel button, then followed by the “Make my panorama now!” button. Pano will take a little while putting your panorama together.

Step 4 Repeat the procedure with up to as many photos you want in the panorama.
