Background:
Dix Dorothea hospital sits on approximately 306 acres of largely undeveloped land near downtown Raleigh. After serving the State for over 150 years, Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Hospital (Dix Hospital) is scheduled to close early in 2008. The government and Dix property has already consider to re-plan this area.
The goal of this project is to plan and design a new urban park with high-density activity neighbors.

The advantage factors in the site are existing GREENWAY, GREAT MEADOW and THE GROVE. But the most significant opportunity for this park is existing and proposed context, especially DOWNTOWN, NEIGHBORHOODS and FARMERS MARKET. Following the main orientation of the potential nearby visitors, the yellow area, be provided with bigger opportunity, could be the CENTRAL AREA with high density activity. Also it is a high point in the site where visitors are able to enjoy the downtown skyline.
Greenway
The disadvantage factors are existing CEMETERY, LAND FILL AREA and RAILWAY. In the land fill area, nothing structures would be allowed to build in the land fill area. Also cemetery has to be preserved. Another problem is the existing railway going through the site, and it divides the site into two parts. There is only one existing bridge to connect the two part of the site. In order to design a integrated park and to organize a convenience transportation system, how to connect the west and east of the park is a big issue. Both of the ELEVATION factor and FUNCTION factor should Land Fill Area be considered. Cemetery Land Fill Area

Design Idea
Long Ridge in the site
Downtown Skyline Dix park are able to provide a space that people walk in the nature but also could sense the urban feature.
Brain Storm
There is a long ridge that are able to keep seeing downtown skyline
Why don’t we create a long path along the ridge with variety activities, and the long path could be the clue of the park? Problem: the length of the ridge is around 1 mile, it is hard to realize that high density activities could always happen along the path. Activity
Why don’t we just cut out a valuable part of the path as the park central?

There is a contrast in this area: the busy street and the open great lawn. That might be a point to attract people to come. Such a pedestrain street could promote the local economy and increase the rate of happiness of citizens. Proposed Neighborhood

Inside & Outside In this case, as a landscape architecture, slightly building design is required. 3rd Floor
2nd Floor
In order to design a lively and reasonable middle school in 5.5 acres land, it is a good idea to take advantage of building to create different spaces. Although we are not an architecture, we have to consider the consecutiveness of spaces. So the design began from the building. Where is the building should be placed? How to arrange the required programs? How to give a reasonable relationship for the inside and outside?
Two buildings divided the site into three parts with different experiences. A bridge connect the two buildings.
Method: using trace paper to arrange the programs, building types and building storages.

From Imagination to Reality This is the first time that I design with topo. During the design process, I can understand the big difference between primary academic work and realistic project. The procedure of this design is: Site Analysis --- Design --- Grading --Design Modification.
Original Topography
Grading plan, as part of the construction document could strongly influence the The final design might be totally different from the initial design. Getting through the grading process, we have to know the construction feasibility and ADA code. How to design a little garden for a reasonable ramp? How to design the entrance of the outdoor amphitheater? Is there enough space to design a terrace landscape? We can only figure these issues out after considering grading.

H Winter In Harbin
GEOGRAPHY
arbin is the capital and largest city of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China, lying on the southern bank of the Songhua River. Its “Ice City” nickname is well-earned, as its winters are dry and bitterly cold, with a 24-hour average in January of only -1.1 °F.

Road Show
arbin Summer Music Concert is a national concert festival, which is held on August 6 every two years for a period of 10~11 days. During the concert, multiple evenings, concert, race and activities are held. The artists come from all over the world. The first formal Concert was held on August 5, 1961 in Harbin Youth Palace, and kept on every year until 1966 when the Cultural Revolution started in China. In 1979, the Concert was recovered and from 1994, it has been held every two years.

T Original View Of Qunli
23
Qunli District Scenery
he original site of Qunli District is only a village. Because this area close to the Songhua river, the government decided to develop this area as a high quality district that combines many functions such as residence, work, health, trade and sightseeing. The project to develop Qunli began in 2007. Currently, half of Qunli District has been beautifully developed, and investments have been made by many merchants and citizens. Music Square is one of the public green area in Qunli District.
An integrated road system connecting residential areas, middle schools and office buildings provide several shortcuts to residents and other pedestrians.
B.
Strolling and jogging in the public green space is one of the most popular ways to exercise because of fresh air and various views. The circular road system satisfy the requirement of this type of resident.
GATHERING
C.
Residents enjoy getting together to sing, dance, play chess, and such. A relatively closed plaza provide a optimal space to these people.
PRIVATE The semi-closed space can provide lovers and other people who need private place to have a conversation. People will have a sense of security in this space.

TREBLE CLEF --- the frame of the center area
TREBLE CLEF Treble clef is a musical symbol used to indicate the pitch of written notes. Generally speaking, individuals think of music and melody when they see this symbol. Moreover, the shape of treble clef is formed by curve and strait line just like music itself.

04 Bubble Garden
Background: Bubble Garden is located in a residential district which is under construction and being pre sold now. The building in the garden is a sample house which could be visited by people who want to buy the apartment in the district. A beautiful garden constitutes a nice environment and will attract more consumers.

Design Strategy: The show house has several windows through which people can enjoy the outside scenery. There is also a foot way leading into the garden. Garden design on topography and plants specially involves the consideration of the sight thought the windows.
