CITY AS STAGE QIANYU LIU
Selected Works 2013-2019
LINKAGE AS PLAN
When I was little, the streets were filled with all kinds of activities, as if various stage plays were performed every day. However, modernization and urbanization in China has gradually undermined this closeness between residents. I use the metaphor of the theatre both for the architecture space as stage, and for the interaction and community life that takes place on that stage. If we make these elements we find on a stage interact and reinforce one another when we design architectural spaces, then we set the stage for the play of our life. Architecture intrigues me because of the magic power it holds to counteract the alienation, solitude, and isolation we have struggled with. Architecture set the stage for social interaction and relinks our together.
