PREFACE
From the first design to the last one, In the process of making this portfolio, my understanding to landscape architecture is becoming more and more clear. And finally I find myself showing a strong preference to the REGIONALISM. In fact, I have already started thinking about how to design with consideration of the local culture in the first project. With new buildings floating above the originals, which free the bottom area as a open leisure space, this strategy seems similar to what traditional Cantonese garden does to fit the weather in Canton——open, penetrating and permeable. This form allows air flowing smoothly in space to low the temperature. And then, in the second and third design, I consider more about what I could learn from the locals to improve my design. So in the second project, the quarry farming park, I try to use a popular traditional agricultural wisdom, mulberry fish pond, to help me rehabilitate the abandoned quarry. And in the third project, I try to think about how to redesign historical street with modern technology but still keep the traditional life continuing. Sometimes, we designers are too pride to consider carefully about the regional condition, like the local culture, the traditional life and buildings, so we often make mistakes: what we design may not win people's support. But the locals are wise. People living in one place will always develop some most suitable architecture forms to fit the local condition by themselves. It is no doubt, we designers should learn from them. And in this case, designing with regionalism seems to be a good idea.

MODULE TECHNOLOGY PARK RECONSTRUCTION BASED ON OLD FACTORY JULY.2018 IN GUANGZHOU CHINA LANDSCAPE PLANNING & DESIGN ACADEMIC WORK INSTRUCTOR: Hongduo ZHUO INDIVIDUAL WORK The site locates in a factory which conducted machines in tha last century. it is now abandoned because of the expanding of the city which makes it lose its advantage of low land price and its outdate technology. This is a common phenomenon happening in China nowadays. The design hopes to reconstruct the buildings deserved to reserve in the factory, using basic module to adapt the original chaos scale and provider various sizes of place, in order to enliven this old factory to become a new technology park for the people surrounding by landscape planning and design.

CONTEXT The site is located in Tianhe district, Guangzhou, Guangdong provice in south China. Because of its low latitude about 23°S, the summer here is always hot and runny.

SOURROUNDING Considering the sourrounding about 1km distance from the site, it is convenient for people to arrive here thanks for the city main roads, several bus stops and a subway station. And because of several universities andtechical companies, lots of students, professors and scientists live here.

ORIGINAL BUILDING SCALE Original buildings have a chaos scale, which is inconvenient for reconstruction, An uniform scale should be found. Accoding to the orginal scale, 4.5m seem to be the most suitable scale to adopt all the original buildings.

QUARRY FARMING PARK ECOLOGICAL REHABILITATION OF A QUARRY AUGUST.2018 IN GUANGZHOU CHINA LANDSCAPEPLANNING &DESIGN ACADEMIC WORK INSTRUCTOR: Hongduo ZHUO， Jun XING INDIVIDUAL WORK This quarry, abandoned for about forty years, locates at Nansha district which ever was a remote rural area far away from the centre of Guangzhou and relied on agriculture. However, with the development of Nansha, residental arears was constructed around this quarry, and the quarry becomes a problem that must be solved. In my design, in order to help the ecology rehabilitate, I consider the flourished agriculture around this base, trying to learn from the wisdom of traditional Chinese farmors, and hope to make full use of different farming techniques to match different terrains in this quarry. Eventually, a cyclic system of matericals for ecological rehabilitation and a city park for the residents will be built.

Those different farms in the site do not exist alone, but they are connected mutually and between a whole circulation system. In this way, this quarry farm not only yield various produces, but also fully utilize remains and wastes in the agricultural process.

CITY ACUPUNCTURE HISTORICAL STREET REDEVELOPMENT APRIL.2018 IN GUANGZHOU CHINA URBAN DESIGN ACADEMIC WORK INSTRUCTOR: Yichen WENG, Hongduo ZHUO INDIVIDUAL WORK Because the site is located in a historical reserve area, I choose a strategy without large change in the whole but with only some certain places to be reconstructed, and those small changes are enough to affect the whole, just like what acupuncture dose. In this process, first I pick up those abandoned houses or vacant plots which are suitable to change, then I try to reconstruct them using modern technology but keeping their traditional outlook, and then add those functions in need. I also consider the traditional life having lost in this area, and hope to help the local residents find their memory of the past.
