The average person will develop a tan in 8-12 sessions and will have to tan 3-4 sessions a week to maintain their developed tan. Medium Pressure - less of the UVB (reddening ray) when compared to Low Pressure and in return offers more of the UVA (bronzing ray). Frequently Asked Questions What are bronzers? This technology uses self-tanning agents to increase dark color. Bronzers darken the protein in the skin, the higher the level of bronzer used the darker the shade of brown. The color typically lasts for four-to-seven days and is seen within two-to-four hours after application. Apply bronzers in a circular motion and hand washing is required after application. What is an intensifier? An intensifier features ingredients known to enhance the skin’s ability to retain moisture and promote dark, long lasting color without the use of added bronzers. What does a cooling product do? Cooling products contain special skin cooling ingredients. These ingredients counteract the heat of the tanning bed by drawing warmth away from the skin leaving the tanner with a cooling sensation during and immediately after tanning. What does a tingle product do? A tingle product contains a stimulant ingredient, such as benzyl nicotinate, which stimulates and increases microcirculation of the skin for greater, more intense tanning results. Tingle products are available in a range of intensities. First time users should start with the lowest tingle and work their way up to stronger tingles when they are comfortable. Tingle products should not be used on the face and testing a small area before application is mandatory. What is Steam Xtreme / Body Blush / HeatWave Warming? Steam Xtreme / Body Blush / HeatWave Warming is a proprietary blend of ingredients designed to create a therapeutic, warming feeling. Oxygen levels are increased in the skin to promote faster coloration without the irritating side effects that standard tingle product produce. These products are ideal for all customers regardless of their tanning level who want results of a traditional tingle product without the irritation. What is a tan extender/moisturizer? A tan extender is a vitamin-enriched moisturizer that enhances and maintains your tanning results when used daily after showering/bathing and after each tanning session. Essential vitamins and powerful botanical actives preserve and prolong dark color. Some tan extenders are sold with DHA to give even darker, continuous color results. What is Sunless? Sunless works by creating a response with the top layers of skin. Specially formulated Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) sugars, bronzer blend, aloe and moisturizers are applied to the skin, which then reacts naturally with the protein in the top layers of the skin creating a golden bronze, healthy and soft color. How soon after the tanning session can the user shower? We recommend that the user wait at least 3 hours after tanning and 6 hours after spraying to give the DHA enough time to fully set. If they shower earlier, they may diminish the intensity of the tan. When they do shower the initial tan created by the bronzer will wash off, but the DHA will remain and create a long-term tan. I think I tan better without a lotion. So why should I use one? Indoor tanning and UV exposure can be dehydrating to the skin. Tanning lotions will help to replenish any moisture that has been depleted during the tanning session, thereby improving your results. Not only will you get a darker tan, you will tan more quickly and it will last longer. In addition, tanning lotions contain specific ingredients that promote tanning and melanin synthesis. Can I use the lotion on my face? The facial area is much more delicate and more likely to have allergic reactions in comparison to the rest of the body. In fact, fragrance is one of the most common reasons for cosmetic allergic reactions on the face. That is why we recommend using products specifically designed for the delicate facial area. Recommend the facial accelerators and bronzers that are fragrance free and/or hypoallergenic that are specifically designed for the face. Why do I have these circles on my shoulders, buttocks, and/or lower waist that won’t tan? These are called “pressure points”, where the most amount of pressure is on your body when reclining in the bed. The blood flow is constricted in those areas and that is why they don’t seem to tan at all. Your best bet is to alternate your positions when tanning. What should I say to a customer who is using an “outdoor” tanning lotion/baby oil in the bed? Simply tell them that mass market lotions are prohibited in the salon due to the damage they cause to the tanning equipment. In addition to giving inferior tanning results, outdoor tanning lotions contain ingredients such as mineral oil that actually damage the acrylics.
