With the onset of warmer weather, many homeowners in Central Texas are finding scorpions in and around their homes. We have had a number of people requesting treatment because a family member or pet has been stung by a scorpion. While the stings from scorpions in our area are not fatal to humans, they can be very painful! Scorpions are arthropods which

Striped bark scorpions can be found indoors or out. They are nocturnal animals, hiding during the day and becoming active at night. They hide under rocks, boards, dead wood or in decaying vegetation. Inside, they hide in closets, folded clothing or shoes. They can climb walls and are often found in the attic. During hot weather, they may move into other parts of the home to escape the heat. Like all living things, scorpions need food, water, and shelter to survive. Make your home inhospitable by limiting these as much as possible. Do the following to help control scorpions.
q Remove brush, dead wood and debris from around the perimeter of the structure.
q Keep grass mowed and trim bushes and overhanging limbs.
q Seal up any holes or cracks on the
Scorpions can be difficult to control. Since scorpions eat other insects it is important to maintain regular pest control service. If you find four or more scorpions within a week, it is probably time to hire a professional pest control service. While there are many over-thecounter products available, professional products are much more effective and longer-lasting. A professional exterminator knows how to use these safely and can spray around the perimeter of the house, dust weep holes with insecticide, spray the interior entry ways, around pipes, inside closets and dust attics where scorpions may be hidden. The Pest Inspector provides professional, safe, customer-friendly service for both residential and commercial customers and can help eliminate scorpions and other insects from your home or office.

When I say the “60 Second Rule”, I’m not talking about how long a piece of food can stay on the ground before it becomes unfit to eat; I’m talking about how long it takes to put something away. If you have an item, let’s say a shirt you elected not to wear, out of place and it can be put away in 60 seconds or less, do it right then. By putting off the inevitable, you

significant, it could take a great deal of time to tackle a lot of things that could have easily been done along the way. For example, take your garage. If you use an extension cord out the garage and set it on a shelf instead of putting it in the cord box, that small inaction is the first step to requiring an entire day to put the garage back together. The small actions, requiring less than 60 seconds, are hardly noticed at the time but can add up very quickly. Extreme situations of inaction result in squalor, which is defined as sordid dirtiness.
