up space in your home. Upcycling gowns is the new trend, where you or a tailor, make modifications to the dress to update it and make it more of a dress that you could wear. Since the dress is almost two decades old, that may involve more of an expense than you would be willing to spend. If this isn’t something you are willing to do, consider using pieces of the dress to make an heirloom piece that your son and daughter-in-law would enjoy having in the future. A throw pillow, picture frame, or shadow box made from the material would be a great way to keep the dress without having to keep it in its current state. Pinterest has some great ideas on ways to upcycle fabrics into more useful decorative items. Should you decide to keep the dress as is, I would recommend having it preserved much like a wedding gown. The preserver will box it up, and it can be stored in the top of a closet or other climate-controlled environment. Another, and most economical option, would be to have the dress professionally cleaned (again), then store it in a fabric garment bag. The plastic film bags from the cleaners will ruin the fabric over time, so please store it in fabric.
