With 10 years of experience in both India and the United States along with a 3 month stint in Shanghai, Siddharth has repeatedly demonstrated capability and capacity to lead teams in producing meaningful and environmentally sensitive designs. His experience encompasses various stages of the project from concept through to construction administration. As a Project Architect and Design Lead Siddharth is responsible for setting up the project parameters based on program, development controls, project budget, sustainability and green design considerations. He then leads the design process where the above factors are unified to establish the building as an aesthetic object which serves as a focus for the development process. With his ‘hands on’ approach Siddharth is also actively engaged in leading the development, documentation and coordination process for each subsequent stage of the project.



HEALTH CARE


SPS APOLLO WOMEN’S AND CHILDREN HOSPITAL Client: SJS Holdings Location: Ludhiana, India Project Area: 80,000 Sft Cost: INR 200,000,000 Current Status: Under Construction. The SPS Apollo, one of North India’s leading multi-speciality hospital’s required a new75 bed 80,000 sq ft women’s and children’s center on a narrow plot adjecent to its current building. The project design successfully navigated its way through a challenging site, an extensive client wish list and a contrained budget. To accomodate the program the stacking had to take a unique and unconventional route. The exterior design is based on a simple and honest expression of the program as well as the local climate. the waiting areas were placed on the north face with a large glazed face to allow natural light, while the western face accomodated the critical care and procedural areas which required the least amount of natural light, allowing the reduction of glazed surface on the west face. The West face also has a double wall system that allows for thermal insulation and also allows the running of MEP shafts in the interstitial spaces. this further allowed the placing of AHU’s on the roof thus allowing the maximum floorplate to be utilized for the medical program. Construction started in December 2012 Role - Lead Designer/Project Architect/CA.

SAHARA ‘QING’ TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL. Client: Sahara India Location: Aamby Valley, India Project Area: 350,000 sft Project Cost: INR 1,750,000,000 Current Status:In Progress The Sahara QIng Hospital is a luxurious 200 bed tertiary care facility that aims to provide a world class healthcare facility for the residents of the 10,000 acre Sahara Qing city at Aamby Valley. apart from being a highly prestigious provider of healthcare, the Sahara Group also aims to have the hospital serve as a major incubator for research and innovation hub providing a bench mark for the next generation of healthcare design. Sited next to a manmade lake with views to the mountains on the east and the north, the hospital design responds to its lush and pristine environment. Its contemporary form is a glass encased structure that is inspired by the ripples in water, a serene glass shell that both blends into and reflects its surroundings. The curvilinear massing is a response to the topography of the site, as well as a solution to maximize the number of patient rooms facing the lake. The building is designed to LEED gold standard. VANKE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL Client: Vanke Group Location: Shanghai China Project Area: 350,000 sft The design is for a 250 bed children’s hospital in the new Vanke medical city. The design is based on the idea that a visit to the hospital is always an unpleasant and unwanted experience of most adults; this sense of trauma is further heightened in chilren. The concept aims to soften and take the edge off the experience of a hospital visit. This starts with a soft curvilinear form inspired by bio-morphic forms. Inside the Hospital both at the podium level (DNT) and the bed tower levels spaces have been carved out to create special areas of intrerest. These will thematic spaces derived from different biomes with the flora and fauna associated with it. The inserertion of these green spaces within the building environment will go a long way in creating a better healing environment. Role - lead project designer

Creating places that enhance the hum


FORTIS HOSPITAL EXPANSION Client: Fortis Location: Gurgaon Project Area: 480,000 Sft The design proposal is for a 350 bed 500,000 (including services and parking) sft expansion to the existing and prestigious Fortis Medical Research Institute. The program called for 350 additional beds in form of patient suites, wards, and ICU’s as well as 6 additional OT’s, Administration and Facilities. The greatest challenge in fulfilling the program was to cause the least disruption to the functioning of the hospital. The design solution proposed 2, 12 storey towers on the NorthWest and SouthEast face of the building. the samller East tower would for the expansion of the Administration and the West tower would have the beds and the OT’s. A connectiong 3 storeyed bridge between the two proposed tower would have additional beds. The building stacking was designed to match the existing hospital. The towers were designed to have a minimal footprint consisting mainly ofstructural columns in order to localize and minimize activity on the ground. The first and second floor would act as a giant truss and support the floor plates above. Terrace gardens are an intrinsic part of the design in order to break the monotpny of the massive built forms as well as serving as areas for patients to engage with nature. MOBILE CLINICS Client: Moved to Care Location: Multiple locations SE Asia Project Area: 10,000 sft The Design is a competition entry for a series of moblie clinics in order to serve the impoverished population in the rural areas of SE Asia. the design brief called for a solution that could be easily assembled and knocked down without too much hardware. The materials had to be locally sourced and the building needed to be assembled by unskilled labour. The design response started with a 8’ X 8’ design module consisting of 4 wooden pylons, grid flooring and ceiling and roof truss out of wood. the finishing material would be battens from locally reclaimed wood, thatch and coir for finishing and insulation. These modules could then be connected together in various configurations depending on the site available. The building program consisted of 2 out patient rooms, procedure, prep and dental care, sample coollection and medicine storage and dipensing areas. Also included was an annexe building with living quaters for the staff and a small lab. My role - lead project designer, design conceptualization, sketch design and 3D vIsualization

JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER Client: Jewish Community DUrham Location: Durham NC Project Area: 36,000 Sft Cost: $5,500,000 Completion: June 2011

The Jewish Community Center in Durham, North Carolina, is a facility serving a variety of community needs. It incorporates a gymnasium, art and music rooms and after school programs for the neighboring Lerner Jewish Community Day School. It has a seniors program with community meeting space, senior activity rooms, and a large social atrium. It also features a fitness center, locker rooms, outdoor pool area, and a variety of meeting and gathering spaces. Office facilities for the Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Federation and the Jewish Family services programs are also located in the building. Construction started in spring 2010 and the center opened for public in summer of 2011 Role: Assisted the project architect in Schematic Design, Design development, 3D modeling and design annalysis, preperation of construction documents and Construction Administration.











CHARTER SCHOOL PROTOTYPE. Client: Los Angeles United School District Location: Los Angeles, CA Project Area: 24,000 Sft Cost: NA Completion: Unbuilt The intention of the proposal was to create a aesthetic, flexible and efficient structure that could be replicated and site adapted to multiple campuses and uses in the existing LAUSD school system. The structure is able to interchangeably house a wide variety of pedagogical program’s without requiring major changes to the shell structure. The proposal seeks to design a flexible, system based solution as opposed to a building as we traditionally understand it. The design seeks to create a connection with a garden/courtyard/land. Often it is through this association that people develop a respect and thus care for their surrounds - the building has the ability to ‘operate’ within the environment, thus users will become more attached socially. The building is designed to LEED gold standards. Role: Lead project designer, Program and cost analysis, Sketch design and Design Development.




Building systems have been kept simple - direct and largely passive. The life of the building is interactive with the energy it demands and with the inception on the site and its surroundings. We seek to use off the shelf building system. Maintenance accompanies complexity; our building systems are deliberately simple and of low energy demand. High percentage of modular metal components, contributes to solutions for economy, speed of construction and sustainability due its being highly recyclable. More than 50% of the building skin is corrugated metal panels with high “R” value insulation. Use of aerated concrete for masonry. The slightly higher unit cost, will be offset by the lower maintenance and labor cost. Its “green factor” and contribution to LEED credits is also significantly higher. The design seeks to balance provision of maximum day lighting, with minimum heat gain without using the more expensive high-ev glass. This is achieved by a careful placement of sun shade devices, deep insets as well as controllable blinds. The proposal has 50-70% of the glazed area as operable windows.


MOORE SQUARE Client: CIty of Raleigh Location: Raleigh, NC Project Area: 200,000 Sft The design envisions Moore Square simultaneously as a multifunction ‘green’ urban plaza, as well as an urban marker for downtown Raleigh. It creates ample connectivity – both symbolic and physical - with surrounding neighborhoods. It encourages community interaction by generating places for multiple activities along Persons St. and Martin St. The activity generator is in the form of an Open air theater and a pavilion along Persons. The farmers market is also envisioned to stretch partly along Persons St. The program/activity generated by the O.A.T, the pavilion and the farmers market will also help pedestrian traffic to spill Person St. This heightened Pedestrian traffic along with the built forms along the edge will help revitalize the area. This program and its spill out, takes up approximately 25 % of the area. The rest of the area is to maintained as a large, flexible multiuse space. Another highlight of the design is its desire to protect existing vegetation, . The proposed structures are positioned to avoid damaging any of the larger trees. Role: Lead project designer,

721-731 BROAD STREET MIXED USE. Client: Eno Ventures Location: Durham NC Project Area: 40,000 Sft Cost: $4,500,000 The mixed use project aims to create a high density revitalization typology for Broad Street. The program balances the acheivement of maximum rentable square footage, allowed by the local by laws, with creation of a ‘destination’ urban environment. The building program is very clearly demarcated, with the retail, office and residential areas clearly defined, yet integrated in one autonomous form. The building is designed to LEED gold standards. ELANTE MALL Client: L&T Urban Infrastrucure Location: Chandigarh Project Area: 250,000 Sft Cost: NA Completion: 2012v Elante is a 1.2 million sqft retail development in the heart of Chandigarh, India. The mall is meant to be the flagship for a chain of luxury malls being developed by L&T’s (One of India’s largest construction and infrastructure companies) urban infrastructure division. The interior design is derived from the brand’s ethos - ‘beautifully smart’. The design development, detailing and choice of materials had to reflect this philosophy. The detailing achieves clean elegant lines, with minimum visibility of fixing hardware. The building is currently under construction and aims for opening by the fall of 2012. The building has been designed to American LEED gold standard. Role: Project Architect

VILLAGE PLAZA MIXED USE Client: Location: Chapel HIll , NC Project Area: 58,000 Sft This 58,000 SF three-story office and retail building is located in Village Plaza Shopping Center in Chapel Hill , NC . The design features an interior courtyard bisecting the building in two. A multi-level, glassed-in walkway above links the two halves of the building. Currently in the entitlement process with the Town of Chapel Hill , this project is scheduled to begin construction in the Fall of 2010 Role: Project designer along with the project architect., Program and cost analysis, preparation of Sketch design and Design Development sets





BENETTON OFFICE BUILDING Client: Location: Tehran, Iran Project Area: 110’000 Sft The building is a 9 storeytower on Vali Nasr road one of Tehran’s busiest boulevards. The program called for 2 levels of retail and 6 levels of office space. The building is designed around a landscaped central courtyard which allows maximum sunlight penetration in order to maximize utilization of natural light. At the same time sun control strategies like traditional brick screens and louvers help control heat gain. The 7th and 8th level sky bridge on the Western face also serves as a giant sun control device cutting off the afternoon sun during summer and keep the courtyard usable throughout the day. It also serves as a flexible anchor that completes the symmetry of the building, increasing its ability to with stand earthquakes. Other earthquake control measures include a steel structure with flexible joints, and dampers in the basement. The building is designed to American LEED gold standard. LYERLY MILLS Client: Harry Pilos Location: HIckory, NC Project Area: 100,000 Sft The Lyerly Mill is an old industrial mill close to the commercial center of Hickory NC. The proposal involved renovation and adaptive reuse of the mill into a commercial complex. This was to be followed by master planning of the site to allow phased development, of additional buildings with adequate parking and ancillary facilities. The architectural forms drew their typology from a contemporary interpretation of the mill’s architecture. MULTIFAMILY MIXED-USE


NINTH STREET NORTH. Client: Glenn Dickson Location: Durham NC Project Area: 300,000 sft Ninth Street North is a six-story mixed-use building along Ninth Street in Durham, North Carolina. It includes approximately 20,000 SF of retail space at the ground level and 120 apartments above. The project is inclusive of a 240 space parking structure in the center of the building. A rather compact urban solution, this project encompasses a complete city block, bounded on three sides by Ninth Street, Green Street and Iredell street. To allow each frontage to maintain an important street scale and streetscape, the parking deck is in the center of the building with the apartments wrapping it on all four sides. Attention was drawn to the scale of the project at the street level, and utilizes the massing of the elements to diminish its intensity. Several apartment housing opportunities were developed to serve the off-campus Duke University population in the neighborhood. Role - Assisted the project architect in sketch design and design development documentation.





CONTAINER HOUSING Client: Location: Newark, NC Project Area: 400,000 Sft The building responds to its urban context through large open urban plazas on three sides. The design allocates almost 50% of the area to these plazas. The design envisions the building itself as an economic embryo – a dense urban infill mixed use project. The retail occupies the ground floor, the office spaces the second level and the last three floors are residential. The building lays special emphasis on public spaces. Apart from the public plaza at ground level which is envisioned for use by both the general public as well as the residents, the residential floor has another public area between the two wings of the residential block. This will be a green strip with plants, and with dimensions of 50’ X 250’ also serves as a sort of a public parks, and the layout also ensures that the kids playing in these parks are under constant adult supervision. The dwelling units are designed from 40’ containers and are double height. The design is envisioned as a loft. The unit looks at multi family in a post industrial and global world as being multi cultural. In most large metropolitan areas people are increasingly from varying ethnic and social back grounds, the designers feel that a large 40’L X 24’B X 17’H unit will provide both high living quality as well as flexibility that allows the house to morph easily as per the users needs. COURTYARD HOUSING Client: CIty of Portland Location: Portland, OR Project Area: 6600 Sft The design is influenced by urban forms in South Asian and Middle Eastern countries, for these are regions where urban housing is characterized by density, complexity, and a very sophisticated spatial organization. The spatial hierarchy allows for a smooth transition between public and private space, via a series of semi public/private spaces. The ground coverage has been kept to a minimum – 30% - of the site. The open areas have been designed with a desire for complexity and creation of a multiplicity of spaces. The resultant built forms are derived from both functionality and spatial organization of the un-built, which in this case becomes a prime generator of form. My role - lead project designer





HILLSBOROUGH ST MIXED USE Client: NCSU Location: Raleigh, NC Project Area: 75,000 Sft Cost: NA This 75000 sf development is along Hillsborough Street in downtown Raleigh. It has been designed to incorporate urban design standards set forth by the Hills borough Street redevelopment plan. The building has 11000 sf each of office and retail and 53000 sf of residential. The designed is based on the maximization of solar energy for both heating and lighting. This has been achieved by careful use of glazing and shading elements, as well as maximizing the performance of insulation. The building also seeks to use recycled components in the development of its faรงade. At an urban level, the development also seeks to create a prominent public plaza/ promenade at a critical urban junction of Hillsborough street. STONE BROS & BYRD Client: George DaviesSchool District Location: DUrham NC Project Area: 48,000 Sft Cost: NA Stone Brothers and Byrd is a mixed-use development in Durham, North Carolina, opposite the Durham Athletic Park. It is currently in the planning stages and is inclusive of the Man Bites Dog theater, the Stone Brothers & Byrd retail facility, several restaurant venues (brewery, coffee and fromagerie), topped by 42 residential condominiums. The project is an urban infill project aimed at achieving a minimum of LEED silver certification, and is currently in negotiation with the Durham Planning department.
